classic david carr is even in on this one.
PLEASE! The Texans need an OL, not a QB or RB. I'd be happy with a Stud DE or LB before a QB or RB.
I hope all of this is a ploy by the Texans to get greater value for the #1 pick. Of course Bush and/or Young would love to be drafted by the Texans..... they assume the Texans keep the #1 overall pick, and thus if drafted, they would get a HUGE contract. It's all about the $$$$ ! Why else would they leave college and enter the NFL draft?? It's all about the Benjis BABY! ! !

Bush is not going to be as good as people say hes just going to be an average back, Landel White is better that him. VY has proven himself time and time again and hes like the next mike vick but with a good arm.

i agree with u leinard does have a very good arm and is a VERY but vince young has intagebles. VY has heart, leadership skills and comand presence. and wait to c how bush does hes gonna be like chris perry.

How do any of you know what to compare VY to? Are any of you NFL scouts? The fact that ANYone is suggesting the Texans take VY, just ruins their whole perspective on what the Texans need!
Yes, I will compare VY to an NFL QB...... Akili Smith!!! Remember him?? All hype and did NOTHING in the NFL.....VY will be the same! He has horrible passing skills and does not know how to read a defense. Sure, some OC in the NFL is going to play "Mack Brown" and just let VY do what VY does......sling the deep ball and hope that it is caught by the WRs. NFL DL & DBs are not the same caliber as Baylor, UNT, ULaLa or TxTech, they are actually pretty good.
Go ahead, compare VY to Vick!!!! Vick is the most overrated QB in the NFL. What has he done??? Nothing! Hell, the Falcons were better off with Matt Schaub as the QB!
Who cares that VY is from Houston...how about the Texans draft Anthony Evans (UH RB) in the 4th rd....I mean, he did go to Pearland HS, so that would cause him to drop to the 4th rd, too bad he isn't from houston, then he would go in the 2nd rd!
Most of the logic presented by the VY / RB supporters is getting ridiculous. Now I see why NFL players do not like fanatics like most of you.....they actually despise your type!

BTW, I don't think you can compare anyone to Vince Young, as many NFL scouts have said because there has been no one like him.

Akili Smith

Vince Young

Pretty comparable stats if you ask me. If anything, Smith's were more impressive as he ran a pro-style offense under Jeff Tedford. And while VY is faster (4.4 vs. 4.7), I don't know if he is quicker than Smith was coming out of college. Smith was NOT as slow as Leftwich, that is certain.
Smith had a 62 yard TD run in college. Byron never had more than 92 yards rushing in a college SEASON.
Having said that, I would not say VY is another Akili Smith. But I wouldn't say that VY is another Steve McNair or Steve Young either. When you look at college stats and compare all these QBs, all you can conclude is that college STATs do not mean ANYTHING, especially for QBs.

Both players are awesome college players, both have a very bright NFL future barring any big-time injuries, and both have only "proved" themselves against college players. Neither one is a clear-cut better player, both have some amazing physical gifts and both have some serious concerns about how their skills/body translate into the NFL. The Texans will draft who they think will be the best for their team, so we'll have to wait to see what they do and then give them a couple years and see what each has proven in the NFL, and hopefully along the way one of them will help turn this team around in the process or else lead to a slew of draft picks/other players that help rejuvenate this team.

Well, if you are going to use his rushing stats and passing stats from the Rose Bowl and say he went over 1000 rush yrds and 3000 passing yrds, then you must take into account ALL of his stats and agree that he dropped in passing eff.
BTW, do any of you know how the passer rating is calculated? Avg Yrd per Attp is weighted WAY too heavily in the equation. The top 4 at the end of the season (pass eff) also were the top 4 in YPA. Coincidence?? Nope! It is a stat that is very misleading.

Example: Cody Picketts stats as of 20 October 2003.

If you calculate a sensativity analysis, you'll see that YPA realistically has the most weight of the 4 factors. UT WRs had an avg ypc of 14.1, and couple that with VY's comp% of 65%, and you can see how the numbers are not telling the true story.
The true story is not that he was the 3rd best passer, but that his WRs were the best as deep threats. I can't count how many times I'd see VY roll out and throw the ball deep. That and his running ability are two skills that the NFL will diminish. The skills needed to be an everydown style QB are not there. The NFL Combine will prove that. Although his agent will probably keep him away from the combine and only allow him to showcase his "skills" at the UT scouting day.
He is not going to be that highly rated after the combine/pro day, trust me! The 40 time might be fine, but the arm strength and his mechanics are horrible! His balls tend to float, which is a cardinal sin in the NFL, in the NCAA , a QB can get away with that by having great leaping WRs.
And BTW, he is no where near a gift from god as one stated. And for the crack on Carr, let's see how well any QB plays with the Texans OL. Peyton Manning would look more like Eli if he had the Texans OL. THAT is where the problem lies.

5 sacks in one game after being sacked 17 times during the entire regular season. He looked much more AVERAGE when he could not be protected.

Congrats, you now have have the QB of the future, a functional thumper in Ricky to soften up a defense for the big play from Dominack Davis, a franchise left tackle and now you can pick the best TE available in the 2nd round. Hey, that might be worth watching.
