Peter King has posted his Mock draft here. There are some interesting insights/comments (notably that some team between 8 and 17 is interested in trading down - does that imply that the Texans might be a prospect for trading up or at least be the source of the rumor?). But, the most interesting thing is who is available at #18 in his mock - he has Williams, Albert, and Mendenhall all available at that point (and has the Texans picking Williams). Here's the full list (he had a couple of trades in there at 20 and 26):

1. Miami - Jake Long
2. St. Louis - Chris Long
3. Atlanta - Matt Ryan
4. Oakland - Glenn Dorsey
5. Kansas City - Ryan Clady
6. New York Jets - Darren McFadden
7. New England - Vernon Gholston
8. Baltimore - Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
9. Cincinnatti - Sedrick Ellis
10. New Orleans - Mike Jenkins
11. Buffalo - Devin Thomas
12. Denver - Keith Rivers
13. Carolina - Jonathan Stewart
14. Chicago - Jeff Otah
15. Detroit - Derrick Harvey
16. Arizona - Leodis McKelvin
17. Minnesota - LimasSweed
18. Houston - Chris Williams
19. Philadelphia - DeSean Jackson
20. Baltimore - Chad Henne
21. Washington - Phillip Merling
22. Dallas - Rashard Mendenhall
23. Pittsburgh - Branden Albert
24. Tennessee - Jerod Mayo
25. Seattle - Kentwan Balmer
26. Carolina - Brian Brohm
27. San Diego - Felix Jones
28. Dallas - AqibTalib
29. San Francisco - Gosder Cherilus
30. Green Bay - Dustin Keller
31. New York Giants - Tyrell Johnson

This is so far from other mocks that I tend to give it very little weight, but it does bring up the question, if the draft fell out that way, who would you draft at #18?

I would take Williams too. We need a stud at LT to take the next step offensively. I also might consider dropping a few spots IF a good trade was available, and hoping that one of the 3 slides to me. I doubt very much that all 3 will be available, and there is a decent chance all might be gone, but Williams fits best imo, although I would love to have either Albert or Mendenhall too...even if I am a bit concerned about fumblitits with Mendenhall.

For me. has to be Williams. I can't go Albert based on two games at LT. This is a concern I have with Spencer coming back @LT. At least he won the start in TC and pre-season. Mendenhall will be great but I think a LT usually offers more years of service than a back.

You mean we actually have the option to pick Williams, Albert, and Mendenhall at 18!? Personally, I still have to lean towards fixing our LT spot for the next decade: Whether they feel that's Williams or Albert, I'd go towards that spot.

Ive said multiple times that I think Albert is the best OL in this class ..... Doesnt Williams have some injury concerns ?

Personally I like Mendenhall enough that I'd take him over a tackle or CB if he fell to us, but considering he in all likelihood will be gone I'd like a tackle, then CB.

Saw on ESPN First Take this morning when they asked Charean Williams of the Star-Telegram who the Texans were looking at in the first, she said that the Texans had "not made it any secret" that we want a tackle in the first. Said that we would take a tackle if Williams or Albert was there, but if both were gone we'd go CB. Thought it was interesting since I'm pretty sure we've mentioned on several occasions how desperately we need a CB as well...

Charean Williams? Is that Chris' momma?

lol, no she's a Dallas sports writer who does some of the NFL segments on ESPN 2's morning show. That'd be cool if a player's mom could give us the low down about what the Texans think about their son. :)

THat would be a tough decision. Mendenhall is the BPA but LT is so important. I would beg Baltimore and Philli for a ttrade down just so I would have to make that decision. If no trade down then I would lean towards Mendenhall. IMO Mendenhall is the best RB in this draft. He reminds me of Emmit Smith.

She was obviously parroting what McClain has been reporting.

LT and CB are two needs of our's but by telegraphing them we could be discouraging teams from trying to trade in front of us to take a RB that might fall. It is highly likely that we take a CB or LT, but if Mendenhall or Stewart fall to us don't be suprised if we take them.

Albert will be gone, as will Otah and Long. We have a shot at Williams especially due to the late injury reports coming out re: his back. I am with Kast on saying just get the BPA, if that guy is Mendenhall or Stewart, I will trust RS/Kubes judgement as they have done pretty well so far since arriving...but I have to admit I want them to go defense so we can actually stop people on 3rd down.

You guys are seriously saying it would be ok to draft a guy that now allegedly has back issues? Have we not learned a lesson in Houston with injuries?

Merling or Mayo I would be fine with but Balmer? You're kidding, right? That would make 3 DT's we've taken with a first rounder. No thanks.

DLine pressure is the cornerstone that this defense is built on that is why the defense looks lost sometimes, we need more live bodies able to make a dent on the DLine for the defense as a whole to work, so no I'm not kidding.

Were/who is the credibal source of that info? I have seen it said here and on the other board, but no one has a real source of it. Seems to be just a rumor/internet thing at this point unless some sort of national media type says it and not just some internet mock draft jocky.

Dude.

It's SMITHIAK spreading the rumor so that Williams falls to them.

Shhhhh... :spy:

I went Albert. I like his mobility and size. As a former basketball player he is going to have some good feet and understands the value in getting one's butt down on defense and at the free throw line. Throw in the fact that he played in a ZBS and I am sold. I like all three of these guys, but I just have that feeling that Albert could be special.

Yeah, but taking one in the first again? I would be ok with taking one in the third or fourth, but why take one so early unless we're trading Johnson?

no brainer. albert in a landslide. he may be going as early as KC at #5 though and doubt we get a sniff of him. i do see many mocks with Williams and he would be a nice consolation prize at #18 if he falls that far. I just don't want them to reach on Cherilus at #18. Trade down for him but not at #18.

I'll just keep pining for Keith Rivers to drop in our lap at #18. It's not that far fetched especially considering how top LB have dropped in the past few drafts. Rivers is a freak and a playmaker and although he may be thought of as a luxury pick, I just dont see it that way. He would fill a position of need and is arguably the best all around defensive athlete in this draft. Draft Rivers if he is there.

my 'somewhat realistic' wish list ranking
1. keith rivers
2. brandon albert
3. derrick harvey
4. chris williams
5. jonathan stewart

if we get any of those 5 guys at #18, I will be quite happy

I went with Albert because he's the most athletic O-lineman in the draft, and would be ideal for the ZBS.

However, there's not a guy among the three that I wouldn't be absolutely pumped about. Now I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping that Peter King is at least 1/3 correct about all of these guys being there at #18...

Never believe anything you read 2 weeks prior to the draft. There's no telling what fabrications teams put out as tactics to get players to potentially slip.
