I confess....... at one time, I was a Carr advocate.. hard to believe, yes I know. But I was. I may have been a little hard on Carr, a little unfair. Help me gain a little perspective on the situation. How does his contract compare to other QBs around the league?

Tom Brady. Jake Delhomme, Bret Favre...

will they be making $10million this year??

The Colts named Manning their exclusive franchise player in February to ensure that he would stay off the free-agent market, then completed a seven-year, $98-million extension with him and agent Tom Condon on March 2, the day before the market opened. The deal included a $34.5-million signing bonus -- $14.5 million more than the previous NFL record, the $20 million that the Philadelphia Eagles gave quarterback Donovan McNabb in 2002.

OKay, with this kind of info, maybe $10million for David Carr isn't too bad.

persistence and determination .... good qualities for a QB, even better for a message board poster ... keep swinging man, maybe someone will listen ... then again maybe not :pigfly:

The average for starting QB's this last season was a little under $6 mil so with a cap hit next year of $7.92 Carr will be paid more than average, but he comes behind quite a few as well such as Culpepper, Vick, McNabb and the ones you mentioned. McNair I believe is scheduled to make $11 mil next year ($10 mil is salary and $1 mil to buy out the remainder of his contract so he isn't due a $50 mil bonus which was stupid to put in to begin with).

And here is
Tom Brady: aka Troy Brady.

After months of negotiating and number-crunching, the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady have agreed to a six-year contract worth $60 million that makes the two-time Super Bowl Most Valuable Player one of the highest-paid players in the NFL.

While Brady's signing bonus of $14.5 million is significantly less than those received by quarterbacks Peyton Manning ($34.5 million) and Donovan McNabb ($20.5 million), the Patriots' star is slated to receive a $12 million roster bonus next March, and $40.5 million in salary and bonuses in the first three years of the deal.

Based on numbers from the NFL Players Association, Manning's 10-year, $98 million deal calls for less than $37 million in the first three years.

The $31.5 million Brady will earn the next two seasons dwarfs the $11.5 million he was scheduled to make in the final two years of a four-year, $29.6 million extension he signed in August 2002.

According to a source familiar with the language of the contract, which was signed Wednesday, the yearly salary starts at $1 million this season and rises to $6 million in 2007. The deal has salaries of $5 million in 2008 and '09, before leveling off at $3.5 million in 2010, with a $3 million roster bonus in each of its final three years.

As an update on this thread--according to some info given to the guys at HPF, for the upcoming year the franchise and transition tag amounts for QB will be $8,789,000 / $8,327,000. The franchise is the average of the top 5 QB salaries and transition is the average of the top 10.
