And my mock for what the Texans do...

1. Robert Quinn - DE/OLB - North Carolina
Drops due to Newton and Gabbert being taken in the top 10; immediately slots in as starting strongside OLB.
2. Brandon Burton - CB - Utah
Physical with a huge amount of upside. Teams eventually started avoiding him more as the season wore on.
3. Sione Fua - DT - Stanford
Excelled after Stanford switched to a true 3-4 this season. Holds up well to double teams and is exceptionally strong.
4. Jaiquawn Jarrett - S - Temple
Able to play both safety spots and gives quality options to Wade in the defensive backfield.
5. Vincent Brown - WR - San Diego State
Was very impressive and rising highly on many teams draft boards after Senior Bowl, but then ran a 4.71 40 at the combine and will now drop. Has good tape and will be able to eventually replace Walter as the number two receiver.
6. Jason Kelce - OL - Cincinnati
Can play any of the interior offensive line positions. Tailor made for a zone-blocking scheme.
7. Zane Parr - DE - Virginia
Legit 3-4 DE who is very under the radar. Depth for now with ability to become a starter if he develops.

as always, comments are appreciated.

Very good Texans mock draft, though I'm not familiar with the last 2 guys. From what I've read Jarrett played FS in college but translates more as a SS type player along the lines of Pollard. I have my doubts that Jones or Fua last as long as you have them, good chance they both go 1 round earlier, maybe we get lucky. Good players chosen.

I was literally this [ ] close to taking out Jones and moving Fua, Jarrett, and Brown all up one round since I think they all fit exactly what we're looking far as far as intangibles/talent but decided to leave him in because he is very interesting to me. Here's that mock-up I saved next to my original one since I thought it was very likely as well.

edit: just went ahead and made that secondary draft my main one since it was what I originally made, then decided to add Jones since I'm a bit infatuated with how he would fit in our lineup.. anyways, thanks again for comments wolf.

I see Robert Quinn going to Texans more & more so my question is why you feel he is still on the board?

can't be any character concerns, Texans won't take him.

can't be the combine even though he didn't meet Mayock predictions he looked smooth & fluid.

so why is his perceived stock falling? sure seems like a top 10 pick from a talent perspective.

I like it.

Dont care for the Jarrett pick, to stiff in hips, reminds me of DeJaun Morgan.

Dont know much about Parr, Give me some more info on his strengths ans weaknesses.

I missed the original mock, Jones?

Overall very realistic, great mock for the Texans, really like Burton alot, hope Quinn falls.

Love your picks, and hope it works out that way ?
BTW I feel like a plagerist, I didn't know anybody else was using "488" in their
userid ? I sent a PM to you about it, explaining the connection with "Jim Baker".

I know this question wasn't addressed to me, but I'm feeling pretty good about the chances of Quinn being on the board at #11 as well. The reason I feel he'll be there at #11 is because he didn't play last year & didn't really wow anyone at the combine. It could just be a matter of teams being concerned about his level of commitment to conditioning & preperation. After all, he had a full year to prepare himself for what amounts to a once in a lifetime job interview. Besides, even scouts are wowed by the pretty shiney penny & with a year off Quinn has a little tarnish on him.

Another reason is that it looks like 3 teams (Carolina, Buffalo & San Francisco) are hot for QB's. Washington & Cincinnati could be in the market for one as well. Add to that mix the fact that Minnesota is picking at #12 & needs a QB as desperately as the first 3, & in my opinion, Mallett or Locker could get pushed into the top 11 if Miami blinks & looks to trade ahead of them. No one is predicting that either one of them will even be selected in the 1st round, but the draft is over a month away. Minnesota is rumored to be interested in Locker & Mallett had a great showing at the combine. All Mallett needs is for someone to be willing to overlook (or get to the bottom of them) the drug questions & he instantly becomes a 1st round prospect. Didn't Marino have similar questions haunting him before the draft?

My next reason is that I believe JJ Watts will somehow slip into the top 10 after the showing he had at the combine.

Looking at the list of players the OP has going in the top 10, there aren't any slouches in there (with Newton being the exception imo) & all of them are considered top 10 talent.

I'll finish this off by saying I believe Washington could be the wild card that steals Quinn away from us. However, Watts wouldn't be a bad consolation prize for us.

he is a gazelle, a thoroughbred, hell put him in Bob McNairs Stable, but I just can't expect him to be there. I'm scared for life from 04 when my pick for the Texans was Demarcus Ware, didn't care if he was from a small school named Troy, he was my guy. sorry just not going to get my hopes up :shades:

Thanks for the response. I like Jarrett because he has flexibility to play either safety position, though he probably projects more towards SS than the other. I think him and Nolan together are fairly interchangeable and could give our backend a couple of different packages/looks to throw at teams.

As for Jones, I had Greg Jones from Michigan State in the 3rd; but after seeing wolf's feedback and reconsidering I instead posted my original mock that did not have Jones in it and is more reasonable regarding draft position/value for the players.

Parr is someone my co-worker put me onto because he is a UVA grad. I looked into it and liked what I say. Still growing physically and is very raw technique wise, but I think a coach like Kollar and with Wade's guidance could end up being an excellent future 3-4 DE.

I thought Solder was the consensus #1 tackle, why is he behind Smith and George Costanza?

I have Solder before Costanzo but after Carimi. The real answer to your question is that there isn't a consensus #1 tackle. Each player has certain strengths and weaknesses so it's a bit of a crapshoot projecting who likes what they offer and where they get selected. I put Smith first because he has the most upside athletically. I think Carimi is a better fit for the Giants than Costanzo/Solder because he is nasty in the running game and that is what the Giants are looking for. Solder and Costanzo then were slotted based on what teams look for in a tackle.

For the record, I think Costanzo is the safest bet as far as OT in the draft, though he offers arguably the least upside.

Pretty much exactly my thought process. QBs are premium picks, and there's alot of teams ahead of us that are in the market for one. Some players will move up that we're not expecting that will push some players down, and I'm expecting that player to be Quinn due to not playing last year and a lackluster combine compared against expectations.

Thanks for replies all!
