Houston WR Patrick Edwards returns to hospital

Patrick Edwards, a redshirt freshman wide receiver at the University of Houston who suffered a compound fracture of his right leg Oct. 28, was admitted into a Houston-area hospital Tuesday as a precautionary measure, to be more proactive and safe rather than sorry, according to Cougars coach Kevin Sumlin.
He wasnt feeling well, Sumlin said. I think that everything that happened has was just a little bit much for him. Hes trying to get back to normal. I talked to Dr. (Jim) Muntz today and he said that everything was good.
Were just being cautious more than anything else, just to make sure that theres no infection or anything else.
Edwards broke his leg when he ran into a cart loaded with band equipment that was parked just off the playing field at Marshall. He had surgery later that night in Huntington, W.Va., to place a rod into his fibula, and had returned to campus last Friday to resume classes.
After being taken off blood thinners, Edwards developed a fever, so he skipped Sumlins weekly luncheon, where he was scheduled to talk to the media. It was later decided to check Edwards into the hospital for observation. He is expected to be released Thursday afternoon.
Being taken off the blood thinners, the reduction of pain medication, the flight back and him going to classes has been a bit much for him, Sumlin said. Its all been a little overwhelming for him. I knew something was up Tuesday when he said, Hey, I dont feel good so Im not coming to the press (luncheon).
He didnt show up for dinner (Tuesday night), so we decided to admit him, just to be on the safe side. The biggest worry is infection, which could create some real issues.
