Pastabelly: Smith, Campbell rated ahead of Cal QB

I think its about time Campbell was put up closer to the top by someone - I think he's an equal or better prospect than Smith and Rodgers and could likely be had towards the middle of the round or later. He's got the size and athleticism to play QB at the NFL level and has the college stats (almost 70% passing last season, 20 TDs and 7 Ints, 2700 yards) and I'm sure they would have been higher except they had 2 top 10 RBs (Williams, Brown) for the running game. Of course the same could also be said to have helped him, with less pressure on the QB.

I think an ideal place for him to go would be to Dallas with their 2nd 1st round pick(#20 I believe?), and he could have a year to learn the playbook behind Bledsoe and when it was his time be very successful.

I may be buying into the hype, but I think if McPherson gets taken by the right team, he may end up being the best QB in this class...

Smith is the best QB in the Draft. I think Rogers is a good QB and likely other than D-Carr the best Tedford QB that will come out. Campbell is going to be a solid QB and reminds me of a young Tony Banks with Baltimore. I am not sold on the Frye kid and Walters. I think Greene is a winner and he will do well. I think Cleveland will grab McPhereson to tutor and he will be their ace in the hole in about two years. They also may take Campbell.

Carr is really not a Tedford QB. He only worked under Tedford as a freshman, and he did not play during that year. Therefore, when Carr played, he wasn't as mechanical as the typical Tedford QB. that notion might have helped his progression in the NFL.

I tend to agree that Campbell is better than Rodgers, but that's not saying much since I've never been high on Rodgers. I think Campbell can do well if he were to fall to a team like Denver or Tampa who seem to love atheletic and mobile QBs. I think Frye will be a very good QB, but he'll definately take time to develop. Whichever team takes him shouldn't expect him to start right away. He'll need to sit a year or so and get used to the offense. Another QB I like is Fitzpatrick if only for the fact that he went to Harvard. But seriously he seems to have an excellent feel for the game, and a good awareness of the pocket. He played pretty well at the Senior Bowl (or one of those senior all star games), and his biggest drawback is his size. He'd be a nice pick late in the draft.

McPhereson is getting a little too hyped. Remember, he had trouble beating out Chris Rix when he was in good standing with FSU. I know he is gonna get picked way to high, but that's what the draft is about.

I'm not real big on Campbell. He is going to have to come along real slowly like Ragone or Rohan Davey. He had two STUD backs at Auburn (both top 10 players) and really didn't do much to distinguish himself.

Like I said, I think that can go both ways for Campbell. Sure he had an outstanding running game to keep the pressure off of him, but that also meant most of the offense revolved around the running game and not what Campbell was able to do. In any case I'm really interested to see how he's doing after a few years in the league.

Vinny you are right. Campbell has lots of talent, but not sure on how fast he can learn the pro game, it took him a couple of years to get to this level in college seems like he may be a slow learner. I think McPhereson going to Cleveland or Denver in would be a good fit for him. I kinda like Denver and would like to see them get McPhereson I think he can run shannahans system really well due to his big arm and accuracy. You can't read defense any worse than Jake Plummer

I agree with that. He's only had one really good college season where he looked like a true QB. However, he has been steadily improving year after year. Campbell would definately be picked moreso on potential than performanc/game film. If given time to develop, and if he ends up with a good offensive scheme he could develop into a Randal Cunningham or Warren Moon-like player. He's got good touch, and his accuracy has been steadily improving. He doesn't have a cannon for an arm, but he can get it down field when he needs to.

The 12 TDs 1 INT in 4 FSU starts speak for themselves about what he COULD have done with FSU. Saw his little segment on the NFL Draft Special on ESPN, he seemed to just flick his wrist effortlessly and the ball would float 40 yards down the field in the Arena League. I think he's going to be an absolute monster in 2-3 years if given the chance.
