Panthers | McCree Agrees to One-Year Deal - from www.KFFL.com
Thu, 10 Mar 2005 12:23:31 -0800

Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports the Carolina Panthers agreed to a one-year deal with free agent S Marlon McCree (Texans). McCree will earn a base salary of $540,000 and a $100,000 signing bonus.

McCree was solid for us and he was good depth at the FS position. I wonder what this means for Jammal Lord...

I think Lord will be named as the back up to Coleman but the new CB we signed (Lewis Sanders) can play some FS and may be the Dime back/primary reserve for FS next year. He has good size (6-1, 210), and the Browns were considering him at S next season if they resigned him. I expect to see Lord on a lot of special teams next year and hopefully fully developed as the primary reserve for Coleman by his 3rd season.

I forgot about Lord.

Shame on you Fiddy! Forgetting about our.... oh wait THAT Lord.

I kind of like the idea of Lord on mainly special teams next year. He played well for us during the preseason. With Sanders and Simmons we probably have more versatility in our secondary than we had last year. Simmons can sub in at either safety spot, and in a pinch could serve as a cornerback. Sanders is a cornerback with good size, and, as Vinny mentioned, could back up Coleman at FS. I really like the look of our secondary next year. If we get a CB like Jones/Rolle/Rogers/etc. it will be icing on the cake.

Though I have a lot of confidence in Jamal Lord's ability to make plays, losing McCree hurts a lot. Having a player that is the cailber of a starter waiting in the wings is always a nice thing.

i liked mcree to, i remember that Int he had aginst the titans in 03 and returned it for a td, he was a good player and i hate to see him go !

i liked mccree too, especially after the 95 yd int return for a td  but i wonder if letting him go was designed to free up space for daren sharper to be with jamie (if he isnt dealt)

Getting rid of McCree isn't going to free up enough space to sign Darren Sharper, WE DON"T NEED DARREN SHARPER ANYWAY.

Secondary is probably our strongest unit right now (defense or
offense). That's why I find it hard to believe we take a DB with our first
pick unless the guy is "head and shoulders" above anyone else on the Board.
I mean, we got a whole lot of things we need to get takin care of before
getting another DB, in spite of all the arguments for BPA. On the other hand,
you never want to miss a Michael Jordan if you can get one.

I'll miss him. I liked him as a player and a person. He has a cool family to. Met them in Jacks. I'm glad that he still has a job.
