Over Under on Smith 1st TD Pass

any gamblers out there  does anyone else think that Alex Smith will make his first NFL touchdown pass against the Texans this Sunday?

After leading Utah to an undefeated record last season and being selected by the 49ers with the first pick in the 2005 draft, rookie quarterback Alex Smith leads a struggling offense that ranks last in the league (18 th rushing, 32 nd passing).

Smith, who missed November with a knee injury, has played in eight games (six starts) and has completed 68 of 136 passes for 716 yards but has yet to throw a touchdown pass. He has, however, thrown 10 picks on his way to a 35.0 passer rating, which is the lowest among all NFL starters.

San Francisco gains only 217.5 yards per game (32 nd in the league) and averages only 14.6 points per game (30 th). Like the Texans, the 49ers’ offensive line has shuffled around and had a hard time gaining continuity. Smith has been sacked 26 times in eight games.

In any case, Smith is coming off his best game at St. Louis, where he completed 12 of 16 passes for 131 yards and a 98.7 passer rating despite being sacked five times for the third time this season. He also added 21 yards on seven carries, and had zero turnovers for the first time in his career.

i say he gets two, the biggest reason is one guy ..arnez battle its not just a coincedence that smith had his best game upon his return, also if you watch the rams game you will see battle,s downfield blocks as a huge factor in the success of the running game that day. my feeling is that it will be somewhat of a priority to get smith his first passing TD before next year, and that our OC will be trying to get him the most oppertunities to do that.

Check our stats on NFL.com. Our opponents QB's have a combined rating of 100. I think the odds are good that he will throw 2 or 3 TD's. Most likley in the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter.

I say he throws for at least 225 yards and 2 touchdowns. Like dsdamaged said, Arnez Battle is back and has a lot of potential. We are also notorious for making bad quarterbacks look like hall of famers.

I don't think Smith throws any TDs. He won't get any opportunities. Gore is going to be to busy racking up the rushing yards and TDs to have Smith throw more than 15 times.

yea i believe gore and hicks will do most of the work, but i also understand how important it is to both smith and the coach for him to get one this the last chance before next year. so i think we will run alot but if we get near the red zone they try to get it done for him in the air. maybe its still gore just on a short pass.

Smith will get his first TD this weekend, probably 2. He got down there in range for it a few times last week, but we just ran it in each time. I dont think houston will be able to stop it.

Been thinking about this all week, its gotta happen sometime right? begs the question why do the higher choices struggle & others picked much lower succeed in that 1st year? Its the team dummies, the supporting cast. take Carrs first season & compare the two, then compare with Big Ben and that Steeler line loaded with weapons.

therefore I'm taking the under:fishing:

Alex Smith is the biggest joke of a #1 draft pick I have ever seen. This gimmick offense in college boy won't do crap in the NFL.

his receivers will drop all possible touchdown passes in order to secure the #1 spot in the draft. He will not throw a touchdown pass.

They won't do that because Nolan would cut any player who would pull that.

Alex Smith will throw his first td pass this weekend. I see the 49ers running the ball down the Texans throats. Gore is a solid back that is underappreciated around the league. I see Lloyd exploiting PBuch's tackling ability.

i totally agree with u with battle+Lloyd+o-line improving+frankgor/maurice hicks who did good you guys will try to stop the run and the alex with throw it to lloyd in the endzone for his first career TD

you guys will lose to:brickwall :brickwall :brickwall :brickwall

Coleman starting, Bradford probably starting, looks like Hollings might be starting. Let's just rest AJ, um....for next year, and we got it made! :redtowel:

According to another thread, it looks like it'll be pretty messy at gametime weatherwise. If it's a mud-bowl/Reggie-bowl, it's likely there won't be too much passing going on.

I think that gives the advantage to the Niners. We can't stop the run and against the Niners we want to put it in the air because they have a banged up secondary and we have a banged up stable of running backs.
