2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
First, it wouldn't be a Mock Draft from me if I didn't include at least one trade, that I hope would be reasonable. I've got a feeling that based on the season's rebound, the Texans will find themselves somewhere beyond P24.
I've got a feeling that the hottest prospects at CB or OT will be gone by the time the team picks. There will be some decent targets that can fill needs but why not trade further back in RD1 or into early RD2 and pick-up an additional RD3 with the move? I think it could be very plausible that such a move could be executed and who knows, Gaine might like the idea of adding a pick or two to this draft. So, I'm going to progress with Gaine making at least one solid trade.
2019 Mock Draft 1
RD1- (T) Trayvon Mullen / CB / Clemson / 6-1 @ 190 lbs / Projects 4.4 - 40 / Has the size and speed to play the position at the next level. He could be a shutdown type of Corner but time in the Pre Season will better determine this projection.
RD2- (T-OAK) Mitch Hyatt / LT / Clemson / 6-5 @ 305 lbs / 4 Year Senior Starter at LT, 2 with Watson who definitely answers the team's need in a LT of the future. I also like the fact that he has a history in protecting Watson's blindside and doing it against some respectable talent that currently resides in the NFL.
RD2- Dalton Risner / OC - OG / Kansas State / 6-4 @ 308 lbs / 4 Year Senior Starter that I see working best on the inside. If Martin isn't the answer, I'd be happy having Risner in the back pocket.
RD3- Karan Higdon / RB / Michigan / 5-9 @ 190 lbs / Projects 4.4 to 4.5 - 40 / He's a smallish RB but he's having a really good season against some really solid teams. I like him the more I read up on him. He could pair nicely with Foreman.
RD3- (T) Riley Ridley / WR / Georgia / 6-2 @ 200 lbs / Projects 4.3 to 4.4 - 40 / I'd certainly love to see him still on the board come RD3 but if he hits 4.3 at the Combine, it could be a long shot. Georgia's running game usually negates massive season's from their receivers but man, these guys can be very good at the next level. He's got a stupid catch radius to go with his speed. Could be a major steal if he's still on the board....maybe even the steal of this draft.
RD4- Traded to Denver for: WR, Demaryius Thomas
RD5- Max Scharping / RT / Northern Illinois / 6-6 @ 320 lbs / 3 Year Senior Starter who some see as an NFL OG but I think he has the talent to play RT especially if Lamm current play could buy him a season or two of growth time. Strong in the run game.
RD6- Derrick Baity, Jr / CB / Kentucky / 6-2 @ 186 lbs / Projects 4.4 to 4.5 - 40 / I like his size and speed first and foremost. While he's competing or getting some rotational time at CB, I like what he could bring to the ST unit.
RD7- Anthony Sherril / SS / Missouri / 5-11 @ 204 lbs / Projects 4.4 - 40 / I like his size and speed first and foremost. While he's competing or getting some rotational time at SS, I like what he could bring to the ST unit.
I really like the idea of picking a couple of athletes with decent speed with upside projection. Getting solid ST production from RD6 and RD7 players could make this Mock a really solid and deep draft.
Feel free to jump in and share your thoughts.
