One vs. The Other

Some people want Bush, some people want to trade down, and a very small portion of the Board still thinks VY is the way to go. I have decided to form a 3 round Texans mock for both of the top situations. I just want to know which yall would like better.

Bush Mock:

Round 1: Reggie Bush- the most exciting player in college football, can score from anywhere.

Round 2: Jonathan Scott- I think the top 4 OTs will be gone by this point (Ferguson, Justice, Winston, McNeill). That leaves us with Scott who is pretty good at everything but not great at anything. Will be pretty solid in pass pro and in the running game.

Round 3a: AJ Nicholson- Solid tackler with the ability to make plays against the run. Not great in coverage. He is not as fast as you would like but he has the quickness to fill holes as the RB gets to them.

Round 3b: Joe Klopfenstein- Porved down in mobile that he can be a real threat as a reciever, but there are still some concerns with his blocking.

Trade Down Mock

Round 1: (Trade down to #4 and pick up a second rounder this year and next years first rounder)D'Brickashaw Ferguson- Simply the most athletic LT prospect to come out in years. Dominating pass protector with quick feet and great technique. Shows exelent vision picking up blitzing LBs. Freakishly long arms, and at 22 has the build to get bigger and stronger at the next level. Only an average run blocker, he wont dominate in the run game with his brute strength. Only 297.

Round 2a: Thomas Howard- fast fast and more fast. Will make plays all over the field in coverage and in the run game. Very good blitzing LB that can get to the QB and lay the big hit. Fills holes very fast. Good but not great tackler, he will have problems taking on big O-Linemen.

Round 2b: Dominique Byrd- after proving at the Senior Bowl that he is a seriouse threat in the passing game, and that he will not be a liability in blocking, he has moved up into the second round from the 3rd.

Round 3a: Greg Blue- at 6-2, 214 and with a 4.45 fourty he could uprgrade either of our safety positions. Would be an upgrade over C.C./Earl at SS and I dont know whats going on with Coleman at FS. Big hitter who can come up against run and is fast enough to play in deep zone coverage. Reminds me of Thomas Davis who played for Georgia last year, just not as good in coverage.

Round 3b: Greg Eslinger- If he was 2 inches taller and 20 pounds heavier he would be a middle second round pick, but because he is a bit undersized at only 6-3 285 he will fall to the 3rd round. I think that if the Texans get him he will project into a very very good Center in the NFL because Gary Kubiak has done magic with undersized lineman in his zone blocking scheme in Denver. I think he would fit in great with the system Kubiak is bringing.

Tell me your thoughts. :)

If you can get Bush and Scott, then I would take option A. But if not, then just trade down and get D'Brick.

I hope, but dont think Scott will be arround in the 2nd.

I dont know if it will be Scott but I know that either him or McNeil will be available in the second, but I think McNeil is more a RT than LT.

I could see both being gone in round 1. Scott is more of a LT, which are in high demand. And McNeill is a monster, and should draw interest from some teams that like to run the rock.

I think Colledge in the 2nd would be a great pick. He is underrated, and has shown he can block the big boys.

I like them both .... and as you point out there are 5 top tier tackles in this draft , One of them is Bound to drop to the second round .... I'd be happy w/ Scott or McNiel in round two .

In the second ... Trade Down version , I think thats about as good a draft as they could hope for .... D-Brick and Eslinger could both possibly start . Thomas Howard has the potential to be a disruptive force at OLB or even as a S .... could be used like Troy Polamalu of the Steelers , He does have the speed . Dominique Byrd ... Finally a TE that can catch and block ....

Only thing missing is a DE and CB ..... With the rumored switch to a 4-3 this team has no true 4-3 DE outside of G-Funk and I fear he's past his prime and too expensive . As for CB , Faggins is a solid Nickle corner but I dont think i want him as a starter .... Buchannon ... let him return punts and stay on the sidelines other than that .... he cant or wont tackle ....:twocents:

I would chose the second option and take Abdul Hodge over Howard if he is still there.

I picked Thomas over Hodge because most people consider Hodge to be first round pick quality that may slip to the 2nd because if how deep the draft is. Hodge isnt as big or fast as Thomas and isnt as big of a hitter. I think either Thomas or Bobby Carpenter from Ohio St. will fall to us in the 2nd and I wouldnt mind having either.

I really like your Bush Mock:)

But if this happens the Texans will still be terrible defensively :brickwall

If for one minute we can look back (yeah I know its hard) at how bad the Texans performed on that side of the ball combined with a change to a 4-3 scheme & the fact Kubiak will provide immediate impact to the offensive side a trade down works for me but should be defensive intensive, prioritized DE (Mario Williams) MLB (Abdul Hodge) FS (Greg Blue).:twocents:
