Okay, what should be our 4th Round pick?

GTFan

Noob
So, there's still some value out there. So, who do you think will be the choice with a top 4th round pick?

Some possibilities: David Irons, CB Auburn; Fred Bennett CB, S. Carolina; Doug Free, OT; possibly Wendling but he looks much more like a SS.

A couple names I wouldn't be surprised to hear at our 4th round pick:
Doug Free (OT, Northern Illinois)
Brandon Frye (OT, Virginia Tech)
Josh Beekman (OG/C, Boston College)
Antonio Pittman (RB, Ohio St.)
Rory Johnson (LB, Mississippi)
Stephen Nicholas (LB, South Florida)
Fred Bennett (CB, South Carolina)
David Irons (CB, Auburn)
Brandon Harrison (S, Stanford)

Give me Tanard Jackson or Josh Gattis. I really think we should go FS or CB in round 4, we can get good value there and better value at OL later on.

i think we should get david irons, good athlete, i think he is a sleeper. and we need a corner, i think he could a starter next year.

OT would be my first choice here. I'm not up on how much talent is left for Sunday's picks, but if we can get a solid backup to get rid of some of the bottom feeders on our O-line, I'll be good.

After the 4th, if the rest of them just replace the second stringers on our team that wouldn't ordinarily even be on a pro football team, I'll take that as a sign of progress.

They can still find some players in the latter rounds. As ESPN told us ad nauseum yesterday, Tom Brady was selected in the 6th round.

Just a matter of finding guys who will work in their scheme.

I like Doug Free T and David Irons CB

But I also like Doug Datish C Ohio State, could start the year as back-up and work his way to being the starter. Plus he has the ability to play multipule spots on the O-line (which our staff likes).

I think our pick should be someone who can make the roster, and be active on Sundays. The "active on Sundays" part might preclude the group of tackles left. If not, Doug Free or Adam Koets out of Oregon State make the most sense.

Defensive backfield is still an area of concern, and there is still talent available. Honestly, I think Tarrell Brown of UT is the best CB on the board, unless he's understandably off the Texans board due to character issues. Baylor's Anthony Arline and Hampton's Travarous Bain have the most upside of the corners left. Tanard Jackson and josh gattis could be immediate contributers at safety (and jackson can play CB, as well).

Tim Shaw could push for the starting Sam LB spot and Rufus Alexander could provide depth and compete at the Will spot in the future.

Finally, if you're still concerned about the Texans getting a pass rush from the edge (I am), UT's Brian Robison and Husker Black Shirt Jay Moore provide value at DE.

For value, Rufus Alexander and Doug Free make a lot of sense here. A pick I'd really like to see though is Troy Smith.

Troy Smith for us?

Personally I think we have greater needs. Dont we have 4 or so QBs under contract?

But none other than Rosenfels who have an NFL future. This guy could be a career backup/potential Schaub replacement if things don't work out. If the Nat'l Championship never happens, he's prob a top 50 pick.

If Smith is there in the fifth, I think we should grab him. There is not much talent remaining (especially in the fifth) at OL and secondary; thus, it might be worth a shot now that we have two picks in the fifth.

I disagree, we already spent our 2nd round pick this year (and next year) on a QB, we don't need to use 2 picks in one year on a QB. If we want to take a flier QB, go for someone like Jared Zabransky in the 6th or 7th, we can still get solid contributors in the 5th at DLine, FS, or LB. Not to mention the fact that we have Schaub as our starter and Rosenfels as the backup for now, and the Denver/Kubiak brain trust usually only carry 2 QBs, no reason to use a draft pick on another. Troy Smith won't be coming here, so don't get your hopes up on that.

Most of the players taken 5th+ won't even make the roster. To get a Heisman Trophy winner who would be a 1st rounder if he were 2" taller would be a hell of a get. Don't think of Schaub as a proven player, he's less experienced than Jay Cutler. We can't bank on him working out. That said, Smith may be gone when we pick next.

Doesnt mean anything in the pro's. Ask Eric Crouch.

I disagree with your assessment. Right now, we have two farily immobile qb's on our roster. Let's pick up someone who has a little more athleticism and see what he can do in training camp and the pre-season. There is very little risk in doing so...

It's not going to happen, we don't reserve that many roster spots for QBs, and we aren't about to grab Troy Smith, I'm just telling you to now get your hopes up because it won't happen. We have made our bed with Matt Schaub, I'm not 100% sold on him by any means, but that's what the team has done. As for the 5th round, we can easily find contributing players here, CC Brown, Petey Faggins, Wali Lundy were all 6th round picks for us and have contributed some, not to mention players like Marques Colston that you can find late. We will take a chance on finding one of those and building depth at positions of great need than a 3rd string QB. Troy Smith isn't coming here.

Totally agree...Shawn King Jr is now a Raven.
