Okay . . what does 'LACK OF HEART' mean?

I'd sincerely appreciate an explanation from some you.

It seems that every single time that the Texans lose a game, there are some that come out, and say something like, "They lacked heart out there today", or "they played with no heart" or another one that I see all the time . . ."they played with no fire or emotion".

When I see those comments, I translate them to mean that you're saying that they didn't care whether they won the game or not. Or that you're simply saying that they were not trying, or not giving total effort. Or that you're saying that that they could have won, if they really wanted to.

If that isn't the case, then please explain how they "lack heart" if you really think they are trying.

Beating the Jags last week was a motivational factor for the Texans, but
fininshing the season @ .500 was not something that was particularly important to them.
Judging from the way the Browns players mobbed their coach after the game,
helping him being named the permanent coach (and not just interim coach), might have been a motivational factor for them.

What I saw was some players on defense (Glenn) worrying more about keeping his pants clean than trying to make a stop. I saw players arm tackling instead of driving them into the ground. I saw offensive linemen letting a poor defensive line manhandle them on almost every passing play. I saw a quarterback regress back to a time when he was riding the pine behind Billy Volek at Fresno St. Maybe it's not a lack of heart, but when I look at the 2 teams on paper I think the Texans have more talented players. I think they have a better organization. They were outplayed by an inferior team and I don't feel they came out with an intensity that said it was an important game. Obviously I can't speak for their true desire and "heart", but what I witnessed out there sure felt to me like the Texans were not into the game.

a lack of execution (that phrase gets old in this town) does not mean a lack of heart.

ill give you an example : basketball. mcgrady can have as much heart as anyone but that desire durring the game is not going to sink a 15 ft jumper. he may play better defense, he may get more rebounds...but heart or no heart that 15ft shot will be the same. execution. its how you practice. im begining to think the texans have some flawed practice habbits. nothing major....but something to impove nodoubt.

after hearing "a lack of execution" from the players so many times....im starting to translate that into misguided coaching durring the week and not on sunday. these guys need to step up their practice intensity.

A lack of heart does not mean that they didn't care if they won the game or not. What it means is that they didn't care ENOUGH to go out there and do what it took to their jobs and win the game. This game was winnable until very late in the game, but the Texans gave up after 1/2 thru the 2nd qtr. To me, this game was not lost by bad coaching, like so many others have been, but it was lost by the players uninspired performance. It is inexcusable to lose to a horrible Browns team like that. Unless some serious changes are made in the offseason in both personnel and coaching, Texans fans should get used to finishing the season like this, because that is the course we are set upon. Those who see this team moving in a positive direction are in complete denial or have no clue about the game of football. Just think, 3 losing seasons and the ticket prices keep going up. What a great deal, huh?!?

I don't think anyone except those on the team have the right to say they didn't have motivation to win the game or didn't care enough to win the game because they are the only ones that know. However, it's possible to say they didn't execute well enough to win for whatever reason...no motivation, lack of focus, or whatever...but you can't assume they didn't want to win bad enough as the reason they lost.

I also don't think Carr has regressed back to where he was last season let alone where he was early in college. His numbers were decent today (maybe yardage was a little short, maybe) and overall his season was much better than his first two. You can't expect him to carry an entire team when he doesn't pass the ball more than 25 times a game especially with the type of passing offense that the Texans have. It's my opinion that the coaches needed to be changed or at least the offense.

Lack of focus and lack of execution equates to lack of motivation. Nothing physically prevented them from being focused or executing properly. The reason that they didn't was because they did not care enough about this game to invest themselves into as much as they should have to win the game. If it were New England or Philly that they lost to, I could see your point. They don't have the talent that those guys have at this point. But Cleveland? The Browns are joke of a team right now. There is NO excuse for playing like they did and losing that game to that lousy team today. For anyone to defend them does the team a huge disservice. The Texans must take complete ownership of their own failings. They are supposed to be professionals. Don't make excuses for them.

what goals did you set for this team this year? winning record? playoffs? superbowl?

if your looking for a perinial playoff team and or a superbowl winning dynasty then your in denial. we still have lots of "expansion talent".

if you dont think 5-11 vs 7-9 is progress then your in denial (as well as mathmatically inept).

if you dont think a sweep of the jags and titans is progress then your in denial.

if you dont think remaining in honest playoff contention till mid november is progress then your in denial.

if you dont think continually adding young players who are begining to pan out (namely johnson and robinson) wont pay dividens in the near future your in denial.

if you think being 7-9 is going to have a major impact on how well we finish next year your in denial.

if you want to b*tch and moan about ticket prices going up. dont buy them. save them for a fan who might actually cheer.

Whoever said that I was going to sell my tickets? Besides, it's not one bit your concern what I decide to do with them anyway. I'm not in business with you. I'm in business with the Texans. My complaints are not based in disloyalty to the team, but rather the team's disloyalty to it's fans. They have continued to field an inferior product and marked the prices up on that inferior product. The quality of the game day experience at the stadium has diminished a good deal over the last 3 seasons as well. Customer service is bad way too much of the time. It is well within my right and in context to voice my concern here and try to create change/improvement. I have heard many others in my section as well as on the radio sports talk shows do it as well, so I am far from alone on that issue. My question to you is, do you have season tickets or have you ever? If no, then you should at least buy season tickets and have the same experience that myself and many others have had before making a judgment. If you have season tickets then you should open your eyes and see things as they really are within the Texans organization. Things are not truly as rosy as the picture that you try to paint. It's not to say that all is bad, but if it were my business I would want to know what keeps my customers happy. Right now there are a lot of unhappy Texans season ticket holders.

I think that was their motivation today too. The Browns had nothing else to play for. The players want him as their full-time coach and played an inspired game on his behalf, and having Holcomb back today gave them that inspiration. (Robiskie with a strong background w/Raiders of LA and time w/Redskins should be considered for head coach.)
In that same vain, how are the Texans (players) feeling about their coaches...
back to that "uninspired performance" today .. it points to coaching.. :twocents:
We aren't beset with tons of injuries this year and we have seen the level of play and talent that the team has when they want to come with it.
