OK, so let's throw out names of QBs who are available

I'm not saying we wait to sign somebody. Just looking for a replacement somewhere. We absolutely cannot count on that happening. It's just somebody that I'd like to keep a real close eye on.

Understand.
You know this whole unfolding scenario brings up an interesting question, just what will Kubiak do with Rexy boy?

We all know that we'll need a third QB for a camp arm. So maybe Brink comes back, maybe Smithiak has someone else on the Roledex.... But supposedly Grossman will be healthy by the first or second game of the season.

Soooo what do we do with him on "Cut day"? Do we...
(a) Straight up cut him and grab someone else ASAP?
(b) Put him on the PUP and cut his replacement when he comes back?
(c) Roll the dice and only go with two QBs this year?
(c) Use a roster spot on him because "book 'em Dan-O" (Hawaii Five-O reference for you younguns) looks a little too shakey to be the long term answer as our Schaub insurance policy?

what say you?

...feel free to turn this into a poll if you think it's an interesting enough question.

Longer term, I think DanO will be just fine, not so much in the immediate future though. He needs some work by Kubiac and the staff to get him up to snuff. Out of your options, I'd go with A and just go ahead and get rid of Grossman now. How much worse can Brink be than Grossman? Personally, I think Brink would be an improvement over Grossman, and even still I bet there are better options than Brink out there for us.

I remember when it was Schaub's first year in the system he looked like he had some accuracy issues. DanO is still learning much.

Honestly....I'd call Favre hahahaha....

I think JP Losman would be a good pick up for us. Judging by those who are available. He's young and wants back in the league somehow. I think he could do good in the WCO.

if there is that clause in UFL contracts i'd totally be willing to give Losman a shot. the only problem is that Losman doesn't want to come back into the league battleing for a number 2 or possibly number 3 spot. he went to the UFL because he wanted to start, not because he couldn't find another backup gig in the NFL.

if he's successful in the UFL than i expect him to come back into a position much like the one we put Rosenfels in this year in Minn.

With 3 games remaining in the pre-season, and Rex Grosssman out for 4-6 weeks, we have to bring in a 3rd QB. The list is pretty bleak:

Player Exp. Status '08 Team
Anthony Wright 10 UFA NY Giants

Brad Johnson 17 Released Cowboys

Brett Favre 18 Retired N.Y. Jets

Brooks Bollinger 6 UFA Cowboys

Drew Henson 3 RFA Lions

J.P. Losman 5 UFA Bills

Jamie Martin 14 UFA 49ers

Ken Dorsey 6 Released Browns

Marques Tuiasosopo 8 UFA Raiders

Quinn Gray 6 Released Chiefs

Trent Green 15 Released Rams

Out of that list, I'd take Losman...he's used to playing catch against our secondary already. :hides:

It's pretty much been mentioned, but...

Quarterback Rex Grossman is out for four to five weeks because of a pulled hamstring. Kubiak is considering re-signing Alex Brink, who was waived before camp, or another veteran.

From that same article, something to watch for when we play the Saints...

Rather than sign a veteran fullback to back up starter Vonta Leach, Kubiak said Sunday that Casey would get more repetitions in that role this week when the Texans practice against the Saints three times before playing them Saturday at Reliant Stadium.

I think the emphasis will be on the former path.
