OK, so let's throw out names of QBs who are available

Name the QBs who are capable of running the Kubiak system. Because it sounds like nobody here is happy with the two backups.

For fun, let's say we're GM for a day. We just cut both backup QBs and we're holding talks and tryouts with free agent QBs.

My first idea is unavailable. He plays in the CFL now, but he was on a pass-happy college team and went undrafted in this year's draft.

List guys who are free agents. Can't be a "wish I had THIS guy" idea.
 
I'm fine with Orlovsky, he didn't finish drives yes but he made some good throws. I see something there with him. Rex's performance was very disheartening, looking like he did with the Bears doing dumb things like fumbling snaps and closing his eyes and throwing hail marys into double coverage.

I doubt Rex is released but they might bring in some QBs just to take a look, especially if Rex's injury is something.
 
LOL, don't you think we should give these guys atleast a couple of preseason games before we just declare they suck? They did just start learning this system. Relax people, it was the very first game with live bullets....if their performances don't improve next week, then I'll start to worry. The coaches/QBs now have live tape they can go over and improve from.

He was drafted in 2007 and has only been in half a game and it was against the Ravens who have either the best or second best D in the league. He went in after McNabb got benched at halftime. Honestly there is not enough information on Kolb to say one way or the other.

As far as that forum is ... anyone can make up something like that.

Yes, but the signing of Mike Vick does not give Kolb much of a vote of confidence.....the organization is looking to push McNabb for whatever reason and Kolb isn't doing it, he isn't even coming close...he just lost his job to a guy who spent the last 2 years in jail.

LOL, the only difference is, is that Patriot fans aren't starting that forum (serioulsy who's going to start a Brady sucks thread in 2009)...those are just haters. Kolb has done absolutely NOTHING in this league for anybody to say we should bring him in over what we have now. If the eagles had any confidence in Kolb they wouldn't have signed Mike Vick....obviously Kolb is the odd man out. I know the guy is a fan favorite here, because he played for Houston, but for a 2nd round pick he has done NOTHING... He's starting to look like one of the multiple overhyped QB Houston has produced. I'd pass.

IIRC, Kolb was out with an injury before they signed Vick

I don't get internet in my bunker...security issues and all. would it help if I said I was just kidding about the Carr thing?
 
I have no problem with Orlovsky as our backup.

If I was GM, Orlovsky would be the #2 and hell I'd even keep Grossman as the #3 just in case we get some injuries... (Knock on wood!)
 
Dan O has potential and will improve under Kubiac's system, so we are good with him as long as Schaub doesn't go down early in the season. As to the 3rd string QB, I'm sure there are some avaliable but they would be coming in late for training. If they don't dump Grossman immediatly and get someone this coming week, they'll probably hold onto Grossman. They should've had a 4th option all along, to depend on a failed QB from another system for a backup probably wasn't smart.

As to throwing out names, I can't because I don't really keep up with college players or other teams that well. And all the good Carr and Farve jokes have already been made. LOL

Cleo Lemon took a physical yesterday and was about to sign, I forget the team it was on the scroll while I was watching NFLN.
 
We need to see some QB's who get cut in preseason first. Like somebody brought up the Eagles are currently holding 4 QB's on their roster. I'm sure other teams have a bloated number of QB's right now that will get the axe when we slim the rosters down a little (Isn't there a cut down to a higher number than 53 right before preseason is over?).

But to contribute, Joey Harrington. He may not be an FA right this second but. . .

If I recollect Jeff "head case" George's only real career "injury" was a case of shoulder tendinitis that kept him out of only one preseason game. Injury free........but mindless too.

With 3 games remaining in the pre-season, and Rex Grosssman out for 4-6 weeks, we have to bring in a 3rd QB. The list is pretty bleak:

Bollinger Losman Gray and MAYBE Dorsey have signed with UFL teams. add to that list Boyd.
 
Anyone think Curtis Painter will make the Colts final 53? I really can't see them carrying three QBs although I have absolutely no idea what they've done in the past nor the new coaches philosophy on carrying 3 with Manning at the reins.

I can see the Colts stashing him away but can't we sign players off other teams practice squads?

I'm trying to keep my mind open to QBs being cut or stashed.

We can't wait for someone to be cut.
We need a camp arm right away.
I'll be surprised if Brink isn't back by Tues.
 
Don't all the UFL players have a get out clause if an NFL team comes calling.

I would think it would be a player who is familiar with the Texans scheme, think Brink, Zabransky or the immortal BVP.

All practice squad players are cut for one day and then signed to rookie minimum contract. Any team can claim them on waivers but I think they have to be put on the final 53 due to these players being cut on the way down to 53. Practice squad players do not count against the roster max.

I'm not saying we wait to sign somebody. Just looking for a replacement somewhere. We absolutely cannot count on that happening. It's just somebody that I'd like to keep a real close eye on.
