On that play where Geno Atkins mauled Watson, what was our OL supposed to do?

The LT engaged the DE, who ran him into XSF. XSF was expecting to block Atkins, but Atkins delayed his rush & when the LT & DE passed him, he went around the left side where no one had a shot to pick him up.

It was like a stunt, where normally I'd expect the LT to pass the DE off to XSF. But if they were expecting a straight rush, the LT knows his responsibility is to keep the DE blocked.

So I'm asking, if you were the LT, what would you have done? Or what was supposed to be done?

It was a good stunt by the Bengals. That's pretty much how you want it to be run.

But man, it really depends on their blocking schemes.

I would say it's definitely between the LG and LT.

Just need more reps together. Either X has got to fan around once he sees the DT loop or he's got to take over the DE and communicate verbally or physically with the Tackle to let him know to come off and slide.

They've both got to be on the same page and that just comes with repsand coaching.

To be fair, when talking about Atkins, I mentioned that dude prior to the game and he's just a beast. While your o-line might be having concerns, Atkins is a pro bowl DT that does that on a consistent basis. The reason people don't know more about him is that he rarely says anything. Lets his play do the talking. One of my favorites.

Yep, our OC got the axe, but many Bengals fans put his hiring much on the fact that he'd been with the team for so long as opposed to the dude knowing what he was doing. The first two games proved the fans correct.

Saw a stupid article that said the Bengals should look into moving on from Dalton and bring in Kaepernick.
Put me in the camp that should that happen, I will be sporting Texans gear for the rest of my life.
That would be the nail in the coffin for me. I'd rather see McCarron get his shot.

Either way, you just have to know how you're going to pick up the rush and do it. Don't get caught in between techniques like we did. The fault belongs to the offensive line coaching.
