Well at least it wasn't Barron. Could of been worse. Thought for sure they'd take a shot at DJ
or Thomas Davis. Rather had Castillio. Might work out.

he is not even close to a consensus best DT on the board by anyone group of experts.

So, who is considered the consensus best DT? (And by not being the consensus top DT, i'm sure you mean he wasn't YOUR top DT)

You see Tim... Even the website that you are using that excerpt from still had him listed as the best DT.

So just do us all a favor and save your knee jerk reactions.

castillo or Patterson not johnson. Mike Mayock on the NFL network says he thought TJohnson was very overrated because he is an athlete but just never was consistent making plays. He is a well known expert who had Castillo and Patterson over him.

Yea but Charlie didnt pick his precious DJ :violin

Look, I go to Florida State and have watched Johnson play for a few years. The guy has an incredible motor and will eat a lot of space on our line. Walker and Payne didn't do anything last year for us, and Jerry Deloach isn't the answer either. Whether Dom and Casserly see Johnson as a tackle or end is beyond me, but either way, we're going to get a hell of a lot more pressure on quarterbacks now than we did last year. This is going to be an incredible pick, and if Johnson was Capers' man, they HAD to take him here, because Johnson would have been a Bengal if we traded down. So before you all sit there and think about Spears or Pollack, give Johnson a shot. The guy is gonna bring a lot of immediate energy to this defense, and Capers wants to unleash hell next year. Johnson one on one with a guard is going to be a mis-match that is advantage us this season.

Look on the bright side, Atleast Peek is going to be starting at OLB.

thats is why i wasn't i wanted to get a tweener type guy. i want to let peek have the chance to win the job, which he wouldn't be able to if we brought in a first rounder. i am curious as to who is the best dt in this draft fatboy? am comparing him to pollack isn't a fair comparison.

thats the second guy in a week that we picked up with questionable character. i like rooting for guys i respect. hope we dont keep going this direction.

Hey, guess what? More than just one "expert" was saying that DJ was overrated because he is an athlete, but was never consistent making plays.

So you can ***** and moan about not getting DJ, who is probably every bit as inconsistent as you say T Johnson is. (and that is coming from a UT student).

not to take away from what patterson has done because i think he is a very good player, but he was on a stacked line so some pressure was taken off of him. johnson had his best year after dockett leaves and most of the o-line was focused on him.

In CC we trust. I would love to see how many people were going wild with the draft last year. Look how that turned out. It's not like DJ would even fit in a 3-4. No way the coaching staff puts him out there with Morlon and have newcomers lead the defense. That would be disastrous.

You can say character issues all you want, but Florida State and Miami are havens for guys with bad attitudes being studs in the NFL. Buchanon is the exact same way. We're taking a gamble on a guy that has all of the talent in the world, and if he wants to play, will turn out to be a steal at 16.

It's freaking hilarious that some of you are going crazy over them picking Johnson, they do this for a living. I had no clue it was you guys who pulled the trigger on Dunta Robinson last year.

I was one of the ones last year screaming, "WHY DIDN'T WE TAKE WILFORK?!?!?" D-Rob turned out alright. Everyone is listing off 2nd and 3rd round busts that we've taken, but the first rounders have been damn good. We'll be fine next year. Payne will become more of a backup guy I believe, which will be a lot easier on him and his nagging injuries. Clearly needed depth on the line, Peek is gonna be fine at ROLB... this is fine for us. I'm excited about all of this.

you should have been here when we picked babin, it was even worse

Round 3 we'll take a WR or an O-Lineman, and at this point, our defense looks pretty set for next season, with Peek outside and Wong inside. Should be fun to watch this team next year, especially if Casserly, Capers, and gang find themselves a WR in the 3rd round to give Andre some help.

some of these bust aren't even really bust. bennie isn't a bust because he isn't good, it's because he hasn't been able to play.

i would have picked Clayton or Barron not DJ and certainly not TJohnson.

First, we had more glarring needs than WR... Most notably OL and DL. We filled ONE of those needs. We couldn't fill them both with one pick.

Tim, you brought up Johnson's injuries... Well from ESPN:

"Barron redshirted in 2000 due to a torn ACL in his right knee. He saw limited time as a redshirt freshman in 2001 due to a hand injury.Barron obviously had some injuries that thwarted his growth early on and he is not the most polished offensive tackle prospect in the 2005 draft class. He also lacks a little bit of a mean streak and will need to become a more aggressive player in the NFL."

So Barron is just as injury prone... And he lacks that aggressive attitude that many olinemen need. So I guess we took a guy that was a bit more aggressive in Johnson, who according to Scouts Inc. "was rated the best defensive tackle in this year's draft class. "

Totally agree Canes. Look at Peek... finally gets a chance to shine this year. I believe round 3 a couple years back? Ragone sucked... Someone dropped the ball on that one... But the rest of the picks have turned out alright I think. I don't know why anyone is writing off our front office and coaching staff at this point. I could VERY easily see this team going 10-6 or so and winning a wild card... That would get the critics to shut up I suppose.

Johnson's a tackle by trade, but I think he'll end up playing a bit of both end and tackle because he's not quite big enough yet to make it as a full time tackle. But 15 pounds in the offseason could really help. Dallas just stole Marcus Spears at 20.

Alex Barron's gonna bust as a RT. He can't play RT worth anything and with Pace at the left side for awhile, Barron's not gonna make it. He's gonna get killed by these speed rushers in the NFL. Left side of the line he feels much more comfortable, but I don't think he's gonna make it on the right side.

I might be homing it a bit, but Craphonso Thorpe could be Houston's pick in round 3, just for a bit of early prognostication.

Well all I'll say about that is they're putting a lot of chips into Peek's basket. So far he has been much too leaky a vessel to put that much faith in. Might work out. My guess is they thought they could move down and still get DJ or Davis. Sometimes you get the gator sometimes the gator gets you. My pick, I pick Castillo. Johnson's got bust written all over him. JMHO. Needed the 3rd for the left tackel next year. I'm ok with the move down. Will be interesting to see how they handle the rest of the draft. I wonder what Ced's number will be with the bears. Need a new Jersey.

Thanks arm. Thats a great p/u for the Cowgirls, unfortunately. I'm not too upset that we didn't get Alex Barron, I honestly think Seth Wand will be ok. Most people are judging him on what guys like Freeney did to him- with very little help from a TE or FB I might add- It's not fair.

I think we need to go OL now. But I also think we may go WR. What does everyone think?

What I would like is that somehow if we could trade up to the mid 2nd if Bass or Spencer falls there... If that could happen, then I wouldn't care what happens the rest of the draft because we would have helped fixed 2 glarring holes on our team, the OL and DL.

But, if we don't do that then I would take either the best available OL or WR, because we do need a future #2 WR (Even though I think we need OL help more).

Johnson's got bust written all over him.

Can I just ask what makes you think that? A lot of people don't like the pick because it isn't a "glamour" pick, but games are won and lost in the trenches (which explains why we lost 9 games last year).

I'm not saying he will be awesome, but I'm pretty sure he will be better than our back ups and at least will provide us with depth.

much as I hate the Cowgirls. They are doing it the right way BUILDUP your D-Line!!! Watching highlites of Spears I think Texans made a mistake not taking him. Looks like a great run stopper! 1 clip showed him side stepping a blocker to the out side and run down the RB not to many 300 pounders can do that!

Ok, I've calmed down enough to take an objectional view on the Johnson pick...Here's what we know about him:

-He has a past history of shoulder injuries
-He only had 1 good year in college (18 TFL, 2.5 sacks)
-He has had past run-ins with the law
-He claims to be a Raider fan
-He is big, strong, and quick

Right now, it looks like more negatives than positives, but he seems to be a hard worker and he says he can play all 3 positions of the line, so I'll hold off judgement on him until into next season...Hopefully Casserly's record stays strong...

I could make a highlight tape of myself and people would think I was awesome. You can't just look at highlight tape. All it does is show the "best" plays they have made. A crappy player could have a few awesome plays that would make for a good highlight tape. (Not saying Spears is bad though. I am happy with Johnson, and I woulda been with Spears, too).

Injury issues, attitude issues = Sean Gillbert. Might work out. Hopefully the d-line will stay pretty healthy this year and they won't have to expose him to much next season.

no one has a CB in the AFC south to match up with him and JSmith and RW. Tough match up.

Glenn and D-Rob seemed to do pretty good against them last year...Wow, Jones runs fast and is tall, big deal...

WOW matt jones to the kitties....
Now that brings a smile to my face. He should be picking up the WR position right around the time he becomes a free agent.

JAGS just made a bold move. I love the pick

So is a bold move kinda like a reach? Like you insinuated about Johnson with us?

So it's ok for another team to take a reach if YOU like the player, but not us since you don't like who we picked?

His sophmore and senior years were good that is 2 years.
He as aquited on all charges
He grew up in Calif. it is not negative that he was a raider fan
yes he is big strong and quick

I feel great CC has done his homework and we are better. We will be in the playoffs. What more do you want?
