Official 1st rd Draft Commentary Thread

If they can sign him, these will start the return of teh 49ers. Damn Smith is only 20 and has his degree. And finished second in the Wonderlic's at the combine, first was the QB from Harvard finished in 9 minutes and got all 50 questions right. DAMN and Gore had a 6 on the Wonderlic.

What's everyone's prediction for the 2nd overall pick? I predict Minnesota moves up and takes Edwards...

MInn trades up for Edwards, probably both #1s are involved in the trade.

The only question I have about Smith is that I wonder if he is a "system QB"...He took 100% of his snaps from the shotgun and their offense resembled the Florida offense a lot of the time, and we all know the stigma surrounding "fun n gun" QBs...I wish him all the best though, except for when we play them...

I'm guessing Miami trades with Washington, and the Redskins pick up Edwards. Snyder might throw away the entire draft in the process.

Alex Smith is the weakest #1 pick I can remember.

The Dolphins are about to make another mistake at #2 when they select Edwards. Who's supposed to throw the ball to Braylon? Saban needs to get out of this pick or take Ronnie Brown.

I really don't think he was in a fun and gun type offense. He diden't throw many touchdowns, or many yards. I watched him a few games, he's really accurate, smart and poised, hes just gonna have to transfer all that to the NFL.

SO did Gary Coleman, and Brady and Manning play a lot in the gun, as for the system thing; nearly all college QBs need to work on read progression and looking off safetys and LBs.

Does San Fran keep Smith or trade him like some the the rumors say they might?

ESPN just may have answered my question, saying Sna Fran is tell other camps it is Smith's to keep.

this is a sidekick II commercial, Edwards needs to get off the internet on his phone and get back to reality he is about to be picked by miami

Idea- We might see Dolphins go Rodgers than take arrington in 2nd? Pair of teammates

Trade with Washington for #9 and 25. take Rodgers at 9(if availalble),Roddy White at 25, than Arrington in 2nd.

Tim Couch? And I'm sure I can dig up some weak #1s from the lasr 20 years.
In hindsight, Couch was a terrible pick. But he was an acclaimed HS All American, 3 year starter in the SEC, and the #1 QB on most teams board. Smith may turn out to be the next Montana, but he doesn't have the credentials as the 1st pick that Couch had.

He threw for 400 yards and 1 TD less than Heisman winner Matt Leinart, so it seems he had quite a few yards and TDs...Plenty of top QBs come from pass heavy offenses, though, so he should be fine...I was just carrying the Florida stigma to Utah...

Somewhat of a surprise since I was expecting a trade...Maybe a trade comes at 3? Edwards will likely be the next pick...

I remember back when people were debating if RB was even worth #13...a few of us were lobbying for him. Do the Browns go with Rodgers and get a QB?

I don't think the Browns will pick up Rodgers. I think they either go with Edwards or trade out of the pick with Minnesota.

I don't remember where I heard/read it from so take it FWIW, but allegedly the Browns said it was either Smith or no QB...

Great pick by the Dolphins. Saban was bluffing all along.

Browns should move this pick. They're not 1 player away and how many balls will Edwards get from Dilfer anyway. Trade with the Vikings & take DJ at #7.
