Official 1st rd Draft Commentary Thread

A 3rd round pick only has a 30% chance of starting, RIGHT CASSERLY?
This is the first time Casserly has completely pissed me off.

How many years now have we made a trade for someone elses 30% pick? :hmmm:
I swear I'm gonna lose it today

Well KC signed Kendrell Bell, and retained Fujita if i stand correct, then maybe just maybe they go with Spears or Pollack?! Maybe Thomas Davis?

Kansas city is 15 and Carolina is next, i think Carloina is going offense, either Barron or the next best WR (maybe Mark Clayton). Im worried about Kansas city taking our man DJ.

Judging by the fact that NO ONE is trading down in this draft.. and NO only moved up 3 spots.. the fact that we only got a 3rd rounder in 2006 does not surprise me in the least.

Im not disappointed either because we will still get one of the guys we want. Besides.. next year is a nice draft class and extra picks in it will be a good thing

Actually this was a great move. We still get our player and an extra pick next year.

DJ, Barron or Spears are garunteed to still be on the board by our pick.

I SHOULD BE ANGRY RIGHT NOW!!! But until DJ is off the board, im sure the Football gods have a plan.

3rd in 06? You've gotta be kidding me!!!

I'm certain KC will draft Aaron rodgers.... Green is getting old after all....

THERE IS STILL HOPE FOR DJ IN A TEXAN UNIFORM.

I don't think Casserly is done trading down yet. maybe he watched Vinny in our 1st mock draft and in reality is targeting Baas

OMG!! THE SKY IS FALLING THE SKY IS FALLING! OMG! OMG!

We didnt take an LB that cant tackle and avoids contact! what were we THINKING!?!?!

Just cause we didnt jump at the chance to get your guy, doesnt mean we made the wrong decision :).. all it means is that we are lucky you arent the GM of the Texans

Why did you guys want DJ so much? You guys run a 3-4, he wouldnt fit at all. He's a 4-3 OLB. Your management made an excellent move with that trade.
obviously he is the hometown favorite, i dont mind to much, but dont tell these guyz that too much :P

Maybe CC knows what CAR and KC want and its hopefully not DJ.
Carolina is most likely not going defense, but KC is most assuredly going to pick up a defensive player. It may or may not be DJ, but I'd really like to see DJ in a Texans uniform. CC is frustrating me as usual on draft day. It usually works out for the best, but he's going to give me a heart attack if he keeps it up.

DJ is overrated. I think he is not going to amount to much because he fails at the point of attack. That works in college but not in the NFL. And that is why he is dropping like a rock.

can someone please head over to KC message boards and see whats going on there and what they believe the consencus pick will be.

Im thinking we trade down again until we ultimately get to Philadelphia's picks. Trade the 3rd rounder in 06 along with the 1st swap for their 35th as well. ONLY IF DJ IS OFF THE BOARD!!!

Not suprised by the overreaction to them not taking DJ. The Texans aren't the only team that doesn't seem too high on him. There are certainly questions whether or not he can fit into a 3-4 system. I have no problems with the move. DJ is far from a sure thing.

At the same time he could still be there at #16. Who knows?

Can I just ask what everyone's love affair with DJ is? I know he is a good player and he played at Texas (which I currently attend), but he does have quite a few glaring weaknesses. Break his game down without being a "homer". You can't pick a player just because they are a "hometown" type of pick. Pick the player that would be the best for our system.

Now I'm not saying DJ isn't a good player, but I don't think he is as "great" yet as people make him out to be. However, he does have the most potential of any Defensive player in this draft (if he can learn to take on blocks and to wrap up when he tries to tackle).

I do think we could have gotten more than a 3rd next year though... That is pretty low. I guess it reflects on this year's class though.

I'm ok with the trade down, not just the price. I never thought we'd get DJ so I wasok with that. Yes I got excited for a bit, but I not foaming at the mouth over it all.

I've read that Vermeil really likes Thomas Davis.

I read that too...Oh well, we still have a shot at Davis, DJ, and Spears, so we should get a good player at 16, if we stay there...

I don't see why DJ couldn't play mlb with the Texans. if the longhorns ran a 3-4 he'd be playing one of the mlb spots. How many LB's have come out and played a different position than college? just because he doesn't project well in a 3-4 doesn't mean he isn't capable of it. i'm just thinking that with the loss of foreman and sharper, we need ILB's and we can never have too many quality LB's in the 3-4.

Look CC is no dummy if DJ was his pick he would not have traded away 13 if he wasn't 100% sure that he would be there at 16. If you look at CC's history you will believe that he does know what he is doing. Way to go. We are making the playoffs this year!!!

why is everyone so suprised that we traded down? we all knew cc was talking about how weren't going to stay there. i know that was before dj was at 13, but that just shows that we were one of the teams that weren't very high on him.

Maybe we can trade down enough times to aquire every single pick in the third round in 06....that would be awesome.

But I already made a DJ's a Texan picture  Guess I'll have to be ready to substituted either Spears or Davis in there. Grrr.

Ok... Calm the freak down folks. For 3 slots and a DEEP draft next year, CC made a AWESOME plan there.. We will still pull off a awesome player from Alex Barron
Marcus Spears DE
David Pollack DE
Derrick Johnson LB
Thomas Davis FS
Mark Clayton WR
....

Give him a bit of credit... this is thinking ahead. Darrik Johnson is Extremely good, but so is Spears, Clayton, and others.... give him a bit of credit...

I do think that DJ will play well in the NFL and could play a 3-4 ILB, but I guess CC doesn't, or if he does he feels DJ will still be there. I trust CC. I admit a 3rd rounder is a bit low, but it was only 3 spots move in the middle of the round. Well, half an hour til we find out. Maybe it's Barron, Davis, Barnes, or even Mark Clayton we want.
