Let’s start with the Division:
Jaguars (2) We’re 8 -0 against them in the last 4 years. Pederson is a much better coach, I see a split here at best
Titans (1) split
Colts (1) we’re not losing both games like we did last season. With Ryan instead of Wentz? Don't see a winnable game but it is division so maybe a split at best
Bears - they are not a good team. They are trying to find their way too.
Chargers- We handed them a good old fashioned butt whipping last season. I don’t see why we couldn’t beat them again. It's in LA this year
Eagles are solid. But that’s a winnable game- not likely
Commander will be another winnable game.
Giants are another team trying to find their way. Winnable game.
Dolphins is a winnable game. In Miami? You're high
And finally the Browns without the Chump will be winnable. If they have lots of injuries maybe

That’s 11 games right there. And because I can’t stand Dallas, I will put them on that list as well. You do know they don’t have any top notch receivers and Elliot is on the decline. They do have Pollard and Elliot is still better than any RB the Texans have

That totals to 12 winnable games.
Unless the teams the Texans are just eat up with injuries the Texans maybe win 5 But then, Any Given Sunday

I have to agree with Steeltexan...thats some mighty optimism there...I dont have the inclination to compare all schedules to see which games are home vs away, coming off of bye, difficult travel schedules, or difficult schedules period....I mean I can kinda see your point...the teams you have listed arent juggernauts by any stretch of the imagination w/ the exception of the Chargers...but we have a ton of ? marks and holes at several positions and we are depending heavily on a rookie class to step up and contribute at a high level...

I’m not predicting 10+ wins. Just saying there’s 10 winnable games on that schedule. The Giants, Commanders, Eagles, Bears, Jaguars, Broncos and Browns were either bad or barely average.
Eagles, Broncos and Browns were not bad or barely average. And all of them but the Jags (which has an entirely new (SB winning) coaching staff were better than the Texans last year

Broncos went 7-10
Eagles 9-8
Browns 8-9

Those are average teams at best.
Broncos have Wilson at the helm now so that changes the dynamics of that team and still waiting to see what happens w/ the browns...that watson suspension will play huge role in that one...eagles have never impressed me...play in a very weak division but I do like their qb...

And those teams have question marks as well. No way did I say are eluding to us win those games. Just saying they are winnable.

And Lucky every teams fan was picking their team to beat the Bengals. And what happened? The Bengals said hold their beer. The Charger fans chalked that game against the Texans with a W. And what actually happened on the field? That’s right the Texans stumped that butt.

Man y’all going deep off the tracks all because I said what could be winnable games. Wow. My bad they’re going 0-17. Now are you guys happy.

Broncos are in the toughest division in the NFL and actually have a QB this year
Eagles made the playoffs and actually have a receiver this year
Browns were eat up with injuries... maybe they are again? And they still beat the Texans handily

Because we disagree that they are winnable for the most part. You gots to be realistic

Ive worn those homer glasses too much in the past only to be disappointed by bill o'dumbass dismantling this team and basically doing what he could to run this organization in the ground so that he would get fired...but instead they promoted him....go figure...

I will say that for the first time in about 4 years Im actually excited for football season to start.

no, you have home glasses on b/c you think this young team with a lot of question marks can win 12 of those games while everyone else sees 5-6...but i'll be happy to eat crow if they win 12...that means we have our qb of the future, we can solidify this team in next years draft, and the rebuild is over

You guys are completely wrong. No Fn way did I say we were going to win that many games. I said those games are winnable. This team is balanced with youth and veterans. Not that freaking young. But hey I’m done, so let’s move on

Using this logic…I see 17 winnable games. More realistically I see anywhere from 4 - 8 wins…and as usual I will take the middle so give me 6 wins. The biggest question is Mills. I also fear he will put us in no man’s land. Too good to dump, not good enough to ever get this team to a SB. This is also known as the Kirk Cousins conundrum.

I dont think Mills is whats going to be the problem...I think its the fact that we need more OL help and need to see if we have a RB who is going to be able to produce and give us a compliment to Mills' air attack....if a RB comes out and can make this offense balanced vs being one dimensional this team succeeds...and thats going to rely heavily on if our OL can open up holes and lanes for them to run through.

What optimism? I’m just going off of what I saw last season. That schedule isn’t that tough.
The AFC West is the toughest division in the NFL.

I've got them 0-4 against them

I've got them 3-3 in division.

NFC East 1-3 Losing to Dallas/Redskins and Philly.

Losing to the Dolphins

Beating the Bears and the Browns game is a toss up.

So4-6 wins is about right.

Like I stated above, you guys are a 1000% right. How dare I say anything remotely about a NFL team like the Texans having winnable games on their schedule. Bump the fact that we all just witnessed a team that only won 6 games in two years, representing the AFC in the Superbowl. Who might I add had the same question going into last season. But hey I’m out of bounds for saying something outlandish like that. Not on this site

Why do you get all butt hurt if people dont agree with your opinion and assessment???? Its a message board for christs sake...your entitled to your opinion just like everyone else. You obviously dont believe in your own prediction if you're not willing to stand by it...

The guy gave you his assessment of the teams on the schedule just like you have yours for the 12 games you think are winnable....you dont see him crying about your predictions. If you disagree with his assessment use some facts and stats to back up your opinion and stop acting like people are attacking you.

Any game is a winnable game because it's the NFL and any given Sunday and all that jazz.

Last I heard, the Texans weren't favored in any game this season. That doesn't really mean much either, but still.

Yeah I had read we werent favored in any games this year either...which really isnt saying much given the "detailed analysis and time" that people actually put into this team. It really is hard to believe that given how we played at the end of the year and all the changes that have happened in the offseason....but we shall see...

Injuries and COVID allowed us to beat 1 of those teams in that AFC West division last year.

Probably would've beaten the Browns last year too if Tyrod is able to finish that game

The Dolphins
Broncos
Bears

...................none of them scare me even with their additions

Washington is a very winnable game which could have us 2-2 against that division if we're counting the Giants as a win.

And we always play division opponents tough. We went 3-3 last year with a team i think we can all agree was worse than this team projects.

Just depends on how the schedule lays out and what the respective teams are going thru at the time we play.

I think the Texans left 2 wins on the field against the Patriots and Titans last season. Why try and predict wins and losses before camp is even done? I have no idea as to how the players are going to respond to their coaches and better game plans going into regular season games. I’m looking forward to the exhibition games for development purposes alone. I’ll have more thoughts on the regular season once the exhibition season is over and the roster is set….a bit more to go on.

Every time I sit down to watch the game, I believe they have a chance to win. If I didn't believe they had a chance to win, I wouldn't waste my time. So yes, until the games are played there are 17 winnable games this year. All the predictions of just 4-6 wins (or whatever number) are just guesses. Remind me again what you win for guessing right? Until the game is played & the final score is tallied, the game is winnable. Some games will be tougher than others, but they are all winnable. Thus endeth my rah rah speech. lol

Brother I agree with you here. I wasn’t making any type of prediction. Just stating the games that IMO are winnable. Like Tex said those teams are not striking any fear to me. Those games could go either way.

Now, I'm going to back up what @Texansballer74 said. It's not being "Optimistic", because he doesn't think we WILL win that many. Did he say we WOULD win that many? No. He just said they are winnable. Much like saying, "we have a chance in these 12 games, but not really in the other 5".

I don't think we will beat the Colts twice, but I think if we are going to beat them this season, the 1st game gives us the best chance. However, if the Colts have their playoff spot locked up, when we play them at the end of the season, they may just sit their starters, and give the Texans a win there.

The Jags are the Jags. We've swept them the last 4 seasons. We are better this season, so we should sweep them again.

We always play the Titans tough. If we had a better defense last season, we would have swept them. I see no reason we can't split with them this season.

The Broncos are better this season since they added Wilson, but they will be coming off of a Monday Night game against Seattle. I expect them to beat Seattle pretty bad. There is a chance for a let down by the Broncos after that game, so that is the best time for the Texans to play them. I still don't think the Texans win this game, but anything can happen, and it just might.

The Bears in the 3rd game is very winnable. They've got Justin Fields, but he wasn't that great last year. I find it hard to say the Bears will be the better team, because I think the Texans will be better.

San Diego, I mean LA, ahhh hell...The Chargers. We beat them, in their house, with a terrible run game and a QB that was just starting to figure things out. I understand they were missing people because of Covid, but so were we. I think our whole Oline was 2nd and 3 stringers. This season, they have to come here, and we should have a much improved running game, an improved defense, and an improved QB. I think this game could go either way.

The Raiders? Any given Sunday, right? I don't think so. I'm not a big Derek Carr fan, but I think they are just better. We might be able to keep it close though, depending on how much we've improved.

The NFC LEast? Jalen Hurts, Daniel Jones, and who?
- The Eagles may have a better overall team, but I'm not sold on Hurts. This is a winnable game, if not a win.
- The Giants with Daniel Jones, is very winnable, and should be a win.
- The Communists, should just be a win.
- The Texas Yankees, that team up north that Jerrah runs...I'm not a Dak fan, and I think Zeke's best days are behind him, so this will also be a winnable game, and since it's the in-state rivalry, this game could go either way.

The Phins. Hmmm. They have the Cheetah now, so that makes it tougher, but they also have Tua. I don't think Tua is very good, and Miami may just go after a new QB after this season. Winnable game? Yeah, but it's really a toss up. If Tua can't get the ball to Hill, the Cheetah can't beat us. I have a feeling this will be a big turn-over day for our defense.

The Brownies. If WD40 plays, it's a different team. If he doesn't play, it's a very winnable game. We showed we could beat them last season when they had Baker. If Tyrod hadn't got hurt, we probably win that game. Mills coming in cold just wasn't ready yet. I don't know how much their defense has improved, but even so, if WD40 doesn't play, I think we win this one.

The Chiefs? I don't think so. They lost Hill, but still have a lot of weapons. I would like to say this will be close, but I don't think so. We're just not on their level yet.

When I think about our division, I'm not scared. I just don't think Matty Ice is going to be as good for Indy as they hope he'll be. I think he'll have some good games, and the rest of the team is good enough for them to probably win the division, but they are beatable. The Titans are falling off. Tannehill isn't getting it done, and by the end of the season, Willis may end up being the starter, but do they really have any good WR's after letting Brown go? In Jacksonville, all of their hopes are on the golden child, but he's never really had to deal with adversity. He's good when everything around him is working, but can he make the team better? That's yet to be seen.

All in all, the Texans have a chance to have a better record than anyone expects them to have, and if all goes well, may even make the playoffs. However, we're Texans fans, and we know it never all goes well in Houston.

I agree for the most part. At least 10 games against teams with as many issues as the Texans.

I’d be surprised if the Texans beat the Colts even once, unless Matt Ryan’s best days are behind him, which I’m not sold on.

& Dallas puts up a ton of points.

But they beat the Chargers last season so you can always count on a surprise win or two.

The Cowboys receiver corp is not that good. They lost several receivers from last season, Mainly Cooper. Cede is the only IMO legitimate receiver they have.

So I don’t think they will be explosive this season. Elliot on the decline but Pollard is big time threat. They do have a tough defense though.

At least we'll be able to watch them play in a few days. The more enthusiastic among us could be disappointed though, this is not going to be a good team this year.

I can see both sides. Why waste our high draft choices if Mills is good enough. On the other hand how can we pass up the chance to get a franchise QB while we have multiple first round choices?

I know it is too much to hope for but it would really be nice that by the end of the season we had a clear path to take. With our luck Mills will be just good enough to muddy the waters.

With all that said I'm more excited about this season than I have been since Watson's rookie year. I can hardly wait for Saturday.
It’s just a gut feeling, but absent Mills becoming a top 12-15 QB, I think the Texans draft a QB by 2024 in the 1st-2nd Round. If they don’t know, I think they still draft one. Nothing that tells me that, but I don’t think they are going to waste an opportunity get an “elite” QB if they have the chance.

I think they will probably take a flyer on QB's later, but I don't think they go after a 1st round QB until the rest of the team is built. They still have work to do on the Oline especially. The '24 draft is the earliest I see them going after a 1st round QB.

I agree. I think they see what they have in Mills this year and maybe next, and then grab a QB in '24 if they need one.

Elite would have to be a QB like an Andrew Luck or someone with a pedigree like Arch Manning.

Mahomes and Josh Allen had a good group of coaches to coach them up. Reid and Daboll.

Herbert had Pep. Luck had Pep.

QBs in the first round tend to go belly up more often than not. Nothing is a given. Not saying you don’t know that or were saying that.

I just think that drafting a first round QB is going to give you that much better of a QB than what you may have in Mills.

I think Mills is that first round QB talent that Pep can coach up to be a top 10 QB.

To be top 10 he has to beat out QBs like Carr and Prescott.

Are we really using Meatbear’s thread as the "Official" prediction thread? Really? OK.

I won't mention the losses, due to concerns of blisters developing on my fingers. So on to the victories.

Week 5 at Jacksonville - There are 3 certainties in life. Death, Taxes, and the Texans winning in Jacksonville.

Week 13 vs. Cleveland - The fans' emotions will drive this win. Just like the inaugural victory vs the Cowboys.

Week 17 vs. Jacksonville - Half of the Jags are on monkeypox protocol. The other half on IR with pulled toenails.

Week 18 vs. Indianapolis - Colts sit anybody that's any good after clinching division. Texans still need a OT FG to get win.

That's 4-13. And the #2 pick behind the Jaguars. Welcome to Houston, Bryce Young.

The Texans just don't have enough talent yet to truly compete. That's just the way it is. We'll be picking very high in the draft again next year no matter what Cleveland does. Personally, my high end to this season would be six games, but I'm ready for another four-win season.

You aren’t thinking the Texans are going to beat the Chicago, NY Giants, or WFT? What am I missing about those teams that can beat the Texans?
