Obie's silence

Think it's getting the board energized, wanting. What say you?? I think we will be more than pleasantly surprised as things progress...

I'm suffering an Energy Crisis. I do not expect much. Copycatting NE isn't any better than Copycatting Denver. We needed our own identity.

Only two coaches have anything to talk about right now.

OB's not one of them.

He may not say much in words, but O'Brien speaks volumes with his eyes.

Or maybe it's his chin?

He has the butt chin of all butt chins. I wonder if he cleans that thing out with a Q-tip from time to time.

What could he possibly be making headlines about right now? Nothing good that I can think of. I'm sure he's living in the film room and evaluating the roster. Move along, nothing to see here.

No, it isn't. It's OB.

I think it depends on the reporter. Both would be pronounced the same.

It's sort of like the old census workers who may have spelled your family name differently, depending on their experience. In my case it has been spelled Bryant, Briant, Bryan, Brian, Brandt, Brown, and Brent. All were trying to capture the sound.

He reminds me of wrestler Curt Angle but let's have another real long thread about his nickname. I know ! I know! Since he has been silent about who he will pick #1, it has to mean he will do a trade down. No he won't. Yes he will. No..

I'm with Marcus. I can type "OB" but think "Obie" or "O'Bie" looks weird.

Functionally the same but one works and the other doesn't (to me).

I'd just call him Bill, but I know people would think I was talking about the genius or the a$$hole of TB :texanbill:

y'know. "O'Brien" is not really that many more characters to type, and nobody is confused who we are talking about. I'm going old school.

It's going to take me awhile to get accustomed to automatically knowing "Obie", "O'Bie", "OB", "B'OB", "Billy O", "BillO" is always Bill O'Brien.

I'm not knocking nicknames or those that use it, but just commenting from my perspective that my mind does not automatically connect it right now.

As far as the thread subject and the FO silence, I do not expect them to give us anything in the next few months. They are not going to tip their hand about the draft, we the little info we will get will probably be general platitudes and the typical coach speak about players and schemes.

Yeah, just wait till someone starts calling him "Brown"! :kitten:

I alluded to this another thread, but my only deal with this nickname business, is that there are nicknames given to players that don't have them, to the point where sometimes when they are used, I get a little confused about who they are referring to. But when it was revealed that O'Brien actually did have a nickname, the reaction among some, was as if it was some kind of sacred territory infringement.

I suggest OB is the shortest and easiest monicker for a message board and is one way of writing the Obie/O'bie/OB/O'B nickname he is accustomed to. But I consider it far superior to BO in every way.

I'm with you. O'Brien isn't that many characters to type. Plus, I don't personally know the man, so I don't have the right to call him what his friends call him.
...but that's just me

Good call.....................OW

Do you have a problem with Andre, or know him personally?

We call him Aj, because we love him. I call OB, "OB" because I'm trying to welcome him to the fam.

I knew someone would bring up that example.
I might have guessed it would be you :D

*I* call him A.J. (and I'll thank you to capitalize BOTH initials :foottap:) because he's known throughout the land as A.J. I don't refer to him as 'Dre, because, again, I don't know him personally.
