O Line Question

Who on the Offensive Line, if any, would start on another team in the NFL? I honestly believe that we simply lack talent at several positions. The O line has taken the most heat, so we can start there. I know most of you on this board hate McKinney, but he did start for Indy, correct? He wasn't the Center then, I believe. Another thing, please do not post if you really do not know what you are talking about. Sometimes these threads get so out of wack with ignorance it is not even funny. Remember when your Mom and Dad said to think before you speak? In this case, please think before you type.

it was Todd Wade who let his man by that casued that ill fated, horrible fumble call & Reily is almost a carbon copy when faced with any type of outside speed pass rush or actual athletic move ( the David Pollack spin to the inside then back to the outside comes to mind). the only OL worth his salary is Pitts. David Carr needs help across the line both tackles, a guard & center.

Are you kidding. According to the Texans, we have one of the best lines in the league. We don't need to waste early draft picks on something silly like upgrading the line. Instead, we can use those picks on stellar players like:

1. Tony Hollings (2nd )
2. Jason Babin (2nd, 3rd, 4th)
3. Bennie Joppru (2nd)

I'm not listening to the Texans hype machine anymore!

lol:

Ok McKinney, Wade, and Weigert could, have, and would start for other teams. McKinney is much better at LG, Weigert is also a quality LG. Wade is a prototype RT. Riley is a RG or mauler at best. Pitts has the feet to play LT, but he tends to make to many mistakes in hand placement and tends to have lulls in his concentration as witnessed by his numerous False starts. Our best line right now would be
Pitts, Weigert, McKinney, Riley, Wade. This particular line would maximize the potential of our average players (Pitts, Riley) by placing them in positions they are better suited for. It would also add approximately 1 extra second to protection. not to mention serious cutback lanes for our backs.

i'm with ya coach. a lot of the pure talent isnt there, but more than many other things we're not using the talent where they're best suited. something i'm curious on though is if weigert could start at center and put wand back at LT (benching mckinney). wand-pitts-weigert-riley-wade. it certainly couldnt be any worse.

Scooter you raise a good point, but Weigert would not be a good C. His upper body stiffness would cause him to be bullrushed by interior lineman. Wand is also better suited at RT. It is just ashame we have so much money tied up in Wade that we cannot make that switch. Eventhough if Wade could play RG we might be on to something. It would place Pitts at Lt and Wand at RT which would give us some athleticism on the edges and size in the middle. Plus with Carr able to see the rush coming from Wand's side Wand will look tons better.

Has anyone heard anything about the center we drafted from Az. St., I think his name was Hodgkins? Is he a prospect?

He is third on the depth chart at the C posistion and also the starter for the practice team. It seems that he has enough talent to play in this league, but does not read defenses very well. He might be better suited at G.

Why would you ask such a foolish question. Remember, McKinney is the star and besides who could coach the guy anyway. Oh, that's right we promoted his coach to OC. Oh, well, guess we will have to wait another year. Its really pathetic when you look at what is going on. We have a number of young players who have skills, but they are simply not being developed. If all Mathis can do after the minicamps and TC is run streak routes, something is terribly wrong. That you man has speed and hands. He has a lot of undevelped talent, but no coaching.

The only way I would see any of them starting for a good team, would be that the entire rest of the line was so good, it would off-set their glaring mediocrity and overall lack of being able to dominate anyone.

There is a malaise in our O-line that will keep them from moving to other teams. Can anyone provide Riley's/Wade's/Weigert's history? I would love to know where they came from and why they are here.

The poor drafting and passing of OL the last 4 yrs got you where you are............And Tood Wade is the most overpaid OL in the league..........Even the fins did not want him and their OL is as bad as yours..................Casserly will pay with his job this offseason.

Riley was drafted by KC i think and played in NO and was run out of town, Wade was with the Fins and shown the door , and Weigert was in Jax and also not resigned.................

Ummm, no. Wade tested the free agent market and was one of the more highly ranked OLmen available that off-season and was sought after by a number of teams. He has not played in Houston as well as he did in Miami however.

ummmmm no ........the fins could not believe what you paid for this back up..................go to finheaven.com and ask them............you have made horrendous mistakes in personel.......wade, RSmith, Babin PBuch, Wand, Joppru, Hollings, Gaffney, Coleman etc..............that is the cause of regression in Texas.............and the real culprit this yr is that you got rid of two good vets on D who kept you in alot of games while Carr flubbed his way...............and poor AJ is just wasting away in Houston................

At least get your facts straight while you're trying to needle opposing team fans. Todd Wade was a 2nd round pick playing on a 4 year contract for the Dolphins who started for them every game of the 4 years except one when he was injured. He was known as excellent in run blocking--see Ricky Williams during the 2002-2003 time frame--and OK in pass protection. After the end of his 4 year contract he was a UFA and could test the market. Yes people said we overpaid and we may have, but find me a single report of a FA where the reports are he was underpaid.

the Fins OL was bad..........and it still is...........Todd Wade would be a back up on any team except the texans or Fins.............that was the point you missed.............He has played horrible in Houston much like he did in Miami..............

Pffft, go away no credibility troll. Plenty of national sources without a motive to be biased had Wade ranked as one of the best OLmen available that off-season. Try checking out Ricky's left and right splits some time there Boudreaux. Stop overplaying your hand. Yes he has underwhelmed here. No need to be hyperbolic and claim he isn't a starter.

I think that the whole offensive line sucks. We need to pick up some good drafts in order to protect Carr better. Lets face it, it's going to take time for the O-line to gel but hell anything is better than what we have now amnd that's the truth. And as far as I can see Wade/Pitts would be the only ones to keep their job not becausre they're great or anytyhing (average on any other team) but they get the job done better than the rest. The organization is more than likey going to clean house if Capers doesn't start producing wins soon so that would mean a whole new learning curve for all. However these are just my thoughts to what should take place.

someone here is reasonable............and it seems it is the last poster. Your OL stats for 4 yrs speak for itself................to defend it is ridiculous at this point................it has gotten so bad now Carr is on a hotter seat than Harrington.
