O-Line & Fresno State Players

There is a player at Fresno State by the name of Dartangon Shack. This is one of the last of the Carr erra, but he is quite good. He's the smaller quick type of player the Denver offense has featured. It will be interesting to see if he is picked up. He won't be on many radar screens, but it will be interesting to see what happens with him. He was a key in the QB protection scheme last year.

There are several other players available primarily on defense. It will be interesting to see if any of these guys get looked at or get a shot. Early in the year they did quite well, but injuries hurt them defensively later in the year. DB's and CB's are in this group of players.

The most intriguing to me is Pinnegar who is really not even mentioned anywhere. If FSU would have won their last game he would have been the only QB in NCAA history to have won a bowl game every year he played(4). He's a big quy like the new modern erra QB's. This guy is one of those guys who only win games. You say he can't, but he does. He apparently is an excellent reader of defenses and might be a real sleeper. Pat Hill swears by him.

FSU had their problems late in the season primarily due to the loss of the FB in the SC game. In that game they still gave SC all they could handle. After that they never found a replacement for that position and it is the key to Pat Hill's offense.

I mention the FSU players, because the football program has a unique academic program associated with it. Fresno State football program was rated I believe in the top 4 for academic achievement on the West Coast. SC by contrast was 13 or 14th. Fresno State players by in large are over achievers. They work very hard on the field and in the class room for Pat Hill. He has very strict standards. If you don't make the grade you don't play for Hill. The community is very proud of what Pat Hill has done with the program. The graduation rate is one of the best in the nation. A lot of other schools including Ivy League schools are looking into what they are doing. The special teams coach, Baxter, is the designer of the program. Its being looked at by many non-athletic programs as well.

I also mention the FSU players, because I know they will be looked at closely by NE. Mr. B and Hill are very close friends. That's why they chose Mankins last year and he was a starter for them. Everyone laughed when we mentioned his name, but it really wasn't a laughing matter. Hill plays smash-mouth football and his players work hard. I believe the Texans could find a couple of gems in this group of players, possibly after the draft.

Good write-up IBar. I think you're right. I believe the Texans think a lot of Pat Hill and the program he runs.
