NRG Stadium has part of it's roof torn off by the Storm

Part of the roof of NRG is torn off by the storm. Last time this happened they made home games away games until they fixed the roof.

While NRG was still being constructed, Ray Childress and his wife gave me an exclusive tour of the stadium being constructed. At the time, The Texans promoted the stadium roof as being able to withstand a category 1 hurricane. That means 64 to 95 mph sustained winds. Several reports now have put winds in the area of NRG during Beryl at approximately 40 mph sustained with an occasional gust of 60 mph. I believe that the original claims of the structural integrity of the roof have been grossly exaggerated.,,,..... something easy to do until actually put to the test.

Don't y'all down there get stronger hurricanes than a Cat 1 once or twice every year??

More often than not, hurricanes hit further south down the coastline around Corpus or Brownsville, or east closer to Louisiana. Houston does not get hurricanes every year. Until this one, it's been several years or more since we've gotten one. Or at least one that knocked out my electricity, which is about all I'll remember then for.

I think the god of retractable roofs was angry that we don't use it anymore and sent Beryl to impose it's vengeance.
You may be right. They sent Ike before and made them keep the roof open the whole season in 2008. Not gonna listen? OK then, here’s Beryl.

Dumb as hell to build a retractable roof stadium then keep it closed on a perfect 75 degree day. Just tear down the flimsy ass roof, put a permanent dome on it and be done with it. Or build a new downtown stadium. I mean NRG will be pushing a quarter century soon.

I really do miss the open-roof games, it changes the whole feel of the stadium. I know the "it creates more noise" reasoning, but the KC Chiefs stadium is regarded as one of the loudest and it's an open stadium. You know what creates noise Texans Front Office...WINNING!

We get enough.

Earlier in franchise history, the crowd at Reliant (now NRG) was louder than it has been recently. I'm hoping we can get to those noise levels again.

Up until last season it was simply the House of Disappointment.

So... I guess "Reliant" still fits.
