If everyone gets their wish and Gary Kubiak is the next head coach, he won't be the coordinator like he was in Denver.

"The No. 1 thing I've learned in this league, and what everyone's looking for, is the quick fix," Turner said. "I'm not sure there's such a thing."

Turner, who has a reputation as a talented offensive coach, was hired as the organization's 14th head coach in January 2004 to invigorate a franchise that flopped after losing the Super Bowl. There were big expectations to produce an immediate turnaround.

"I imagine based on readings I'm getting and the feeling I'm getting, there's people interested in me being an offensive coordinator again, so I'll look into that," Turner said. "I wouldn't rule anything out, but I do know I want to coach."

Now, a question for some you Kubiak fanatics. Wouldn't Dom Capers and Norv Turner provide good evidence that good coordinators don't necessarily make good head coaches?

For every Dom Capers and Norv Turner, you have Marvin Lewis, Bill Belichick and Mike Holmgren. Hopefully McNair, Reeves and Casserly will do their homework and, if they choose Kubiak, they will know he is closer to being Mike Holmgren than Norv Turner.

Yeah, it's going to be a crap shoot no matter what we do. There will be people drinking their hatorade no matter who gets the job.

On the one hand, do we get a proven HC that might be just doing it for the money since he doesn't really have anything to prove? Or do you go with the unproven coordinator that may or may not have what it takes to run the complete team?

Glad I don't have to make that decision! (or any of you! )

Kubiak could be one of those HC's that calls his own plays on one side of the ball, though. Never know. Might just get an OC that agrees with his philosophy and implements it to assist him.

I think Kubiak take the same approach as a young shanahan did when he was given the HC job in Denver. He will call his own plays until he feels comfortable enough with his OC to completely turn it over to him and just oversee the game. Kubiak is a risk as is any coach and the right fit has to be their to succeed. I mean Bellichick did not succeed his first trys at it, but he found a good organization with an owner that will fight for him and he is doing well now. Kubiak to me has a team in the Texans built the way he would like a team(meaning the core) and management would be a good fit for him. Casserly the crazy gambler will go get guys regardless of how much he has to spend to get them and McNair is a very loyal owner that will also get him the coordinators and assistants he wants. IMO it's paramount that you get a OC and a DC that agrees with the philosophy of the HC. I don't want another Palmer thank you

Good take, Coach. It's a gamble regardless of who we get, because so much depends on team chemistry from the top on down. I do like your list for 2006, though.

and yep, it's the Outlaw Josey Wales. After my hospital stay with pancreatitus last week, I felt I needed a little Clint to watch my back.

Well DB glad you are out the hospital and hope you are doing well. The list is tenative, but you cannot surround a team with enough good coaches. And my list is mainly alot of class guys. I guess I jumped on the Belechick bandwagon and like class guys brought into my organization. Shottenheimer is iffy because he is a QBs coach and may not want to leave daddy, but Singletary has to be ready to step up even though he is interviewing with the lions. Marciano has produced, but I think he needs an assistant that can train kickers and punters.

I agree with what you are saying, experience is a necessity, but many times the "peter principle" is proven again and again. I think this is one of the reasons that a candidate has to "interview well", an owner has to use some type of tools to try to increase his odds of success.
But its kinda like the combine, you can jump the highest, run the fastest and lift the most weight, but then you still have to go on the field and prove it.
Here's hoping Mr McNair is successful in finding the right coach...

Kubiak is as good as anyone out there right now...so I think we might just want to try this Kubiak out. I think Kubiak will be a good coach, because of what he has done to Jake Plummer. It's "No-Mistake Jake" now. He has produced one of the most efficient offenses this year. I think Kubiak would be excellent for this upcoming year.

So let me follow Marcus' logic. Capers and Turner were bad HC's. Both were coordinators, so therefore all coordinators must be bad head coaches.

So using his logic, my Dell laptop has a bad hard drive. A friends has a bad hard drive. Therefore all Dell laptops have bad hard drives.

This all makes perfect sense to me.

Assistent coaches have the same possiblity of succeeding as a draft pick. You don't know until you get them into the game.

I love this assessment. I think Shottenheimer would jump at the chance to be an OC. Kubiak will call plays for several years until Shottenheimer is fully versed in the offense.

I hope we can get Singletary, however, it might be difficult. Singletary may get a HC job even though I think he is lacking the requisite coaching experience. He is also very loyal to Nolan in San Fran. Additionally, if Rivera gets a HC job he might go back to the Bears as DC. I hope we can get him, I love his attitude.
