Nobody as even thought of this yet

What if Vince was willing to play as WR if he couldn't beat out Carr the first year, even if was only for 5 or 6 plays a game?

Would that change anything at all?

I know it would in the minds of GM's and coaches.

And that would bring alot of competition to the QB spot and Vince wouldn't be as expensive, because we could trade down to get him.

We would save money, get more draft picks to upgrade the OL and Defense, but most importantly we would seriously upgrade the QB position and even help out the WR position with one pick.

Of course only VY could agree to that, but if he did wouldn't that up his value to us?

You just wont give up will you.

Then you get less of an immediate impact out of the pick, you have Young in a position he doesn't want to be and you have a major QB controversy because the entire city will be calling for him to start from day one.

Take Bush.

Not at all. Why would I want to pay a guy $8 million a year to play WR for a few snaps a game when he's never played the position before and he's supposed to be learning how to be an NFL QB rather than learning WR routes and plays as well?

No one is going to draft Vince to play WR, either full-tim or part-time, whoever drafts him is going to be purely as a QB. Playing WR increases his chance of injury, it takes time and focus away from him learning the QB position, and he probably wouldn't be an overly effective WR anyway.

The Texans are not going to draft Vince Young, he made a good run for that #1 pick this year and with the Rose Bowl but the Texans have better uses for the #1 pick and bottom line Vince isn't worth that high of a pick anyways. The Texans are not going to trade down out of the #1 spot and draft Vince Young either, as I said they have more important uses for that pick and if they do receive a whopper deal and move down it's going to be with the intention of filling a hole more valuable than upgrading our backup QB position.

P.S. This idea has been discussed before on this board and occasionally in the media.

The 40 time doesn't really hurt him as a QB however as a receiver that's a different story. Vince wouldn't adjust well to playing WR.

4.58 was his highest time and he wasn't training for the 40, like the chad jackson's and the rest of the them. Not the mention he is deceptively fast and should be learning the routes anyway, as the QB knows what everyone is doing.

You can't question his athletic ability. There is tape of him playing WR on a few gimmick plays at Texas.

It is very viable that he could and would be willing to play a few plays as WR. It wouldn't take away from his learning the QB position, that is for sure.

I would label this a stage 3 Vince thread...bargaining. "What if Vince was willing to..."

Vince has stated that he is a "QB 4 Life" several times. Playing Vince at another position is intriguing, but it's not gonna happen.

Haha that is absolutely hillarious.

What are the other stages of Vince threads?

College WR's have time adjusting to the pro game, now you're going to ask him to do double duty and learn the QB and WR position? So for the top pick in the draft we are getting a 3rd or 4th WR that gets about 2 catches a game?

No.... Its painfully obvious we will not draft Young, the Texans talked him up to keep the value of their pick high, even if he had a horrendous workout they would still talk him up.

Frankly i think we build the team around Carr, if he can't hack it, then we have just 1 hole to fill. It may not be young but who do you care about more young or the Texans?

Well, there's the stage 1 denial thread, as epitimized by Monarch - "You will believe in Vincetopia and we will enter the Vince Dynasty."

Then, you've got the stage 2 anger threads, such as a jjcorvallis edict - "Carr sucks!!! Why won't the Texans draft Vince? Why?"

There's the kbourda depression stage 4 takes - "The Texans are doomed without Vince. Doomed, I say."

Finally, the stage 5 acceptance thread, like a Nightwatch effort - "Vince isn't coming, but the Texans can still screw up this draft if they try..."

I'd rather bet on Carr being able to play the position competently when he has more than 0.25 seconds to get rid of the ball and adding Bush than hoping that Young can pick up the pro game on the fly. The hometown boy makes good is a great human interest story, but that's if you are a fan of human interest stories.

If a QB sits in the eyes of a WR receiver though then that would help him become a better QB. However that would be a stupid thing to do with young...Draft bush/brick/mario

Both, but Young will be fine no matter where he goes. I am worried about the Texans though.

Except you just contradicted yourself in the same sentence.
