No Dunta, No Cry Mock

Veteran
1. Kyle Wilson CB Boise State
Wilson is gaining momentum here to be considered the best cover corner of this senior class and a potential first-round pick.

2. Morgan Burnett S Georgia Tech
Burnett's ability to play either safety position could make him a second-round pick.

3. Toby Gerhart RB Stanford
If Gerhart impresses the NFL with his times in the 40-yard dash, he will move up considerably. There is some question whether he would play tailback or fullback in the NFL, but he has never been a blocking back, so if he makes it in the pros, it will be as a tailback.

4. Sergio Render OG Virginia Tech
has been selected Second Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference for the 2009 college football season as voted on by the 40 members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.

5. Rod Muckelroy OLB Texas
has been selected All-Big 12 Conference Second Team for the 2009 college football season as voted on by the Big 12 coaches.

6. Cam Thomas DT North Carolina
Defensive tackle Cam Thomas (North Carolina) carried his 331 pounds well, although he did measure at a shade under 6-4. His strength at the point of attack stood out

6. Kenny Alfred OC Washington State
Kenny Alfred, Sr., Washington State, has been selected Second Team All-Pac-10 Conference for the 2009 college football season as voted on by the Pac-10 head football coaches. Alfred, as senior from Gig Harbor, Wash., was the undisputed leader of the Cougar offense, starting all 12 games this season, garnering WSU Offensive Player of the Week seven times. He was one of two offensive linemen to start each week and ended his career starting his final 29 games. A Rimington Award candidate each of the past three seasons signifying the nation's outstanding center, Alfred was also a Pac-10 All-Academic selection last month.

7. Dennis Rogan CB Tennessee
a versatile defensive back and return specialist from Knoxville, would have been a key piece for new head coach Derek Dooley's first UT defense. Generously listed at 5-foot-10, Rogan evolved into a solid defender who could play any spot in the secondary. He made decisive plays in several Volunteers' games the past three seasons.

My mock focus has gone from two RB's to grabbing up defensive backs while still filling what I feel are our problem areas (interior line, running back, defensive tackle). All of the blurbs on each player come from their page on cbs sportsline.

Enjoyed your view HK. I am ok with your guys but feel strongly about mine because I've watched most of them play. Will you be able to generate info from the combine to keep us up to date? Concerning ALfred, he is same size as Myers who routinely gets blasted for not being able to stand up to defense, how is your guy going to do better? I think Burnett could have remained in college another year. His stats are good but I'm not a huge fan.

Same way Mawae is a 7 time probowler 3 time All Pro and Weigman as a probowler did it at under 290 lbs. Good technique and dedication.

Icak you always come up with one or two exceptions and then try to portray that as the rule. I ain't buying.

Going off of Kubiak's record of letting people stick around even when subpar, I don't really have a lot of hope that Myers is going to lose his job this upcoming season. I simply looked at a draft board and some accolades and thought that Alfred would be a good guy to take a chance on in a later round.

I concure, the exception being if they manuver down & take Pouncey earlier which would force their hand a little but you know they don't like that unless they absoultely love the kid.

I like you mock even if it's not realistic w/Cam Thomas still on the board in 6th. maybe if you sub in Trindon Holliday instead :)

I don't get that. He didn't say it was a given, he said that was how a smaller man could do what Mawae does. He didn't claim it was any sort of rule, just that it was possible and gave you an example.

I know this is hard to read so click on the link. Meyers better than most give him credit for.

BTW I am not a fan of his either, but you don't throw out a player until you can upgrade the position.

Nice work on your mock, but I don't agree with any of it. I see the Texans possibly going after Antrelle Rolle in free agency, trading down in the first round and still possibly picking up Kyle Wilson or possibly Ryan Mathews. If Kyle Wilson is off the board, they'll go ahead and draft Mathews and take a guy like Jerome Murphy or wait until the third and draft a guy like Kareem Jackson. Nate Allen is also a possibility in the 2nd if Rolle isn't in a Texans uniform. Look for guys like Devin McCourty, Patrick Robinson, and Brandon Ghee in the 2nd if the Texans take Mathews first. John Jerry, Ciron Black, Mike Johnson, Amari Spievey, Javier Arenas, and Geno Atkins as possibilities in the 3rd through 5th rounds.

This is how I see the draft falling.

1st RB Dwyer is my choice
2nd Ghee, I think Ghee has as much upside as Wilson.
3rd Calloway Played in ZBS at Iowa, Can play all OL positions.
4th Newhouse runs a 5.06 40 was Texas state weightlifting champ in HS

I like Ghee in the 2nd, but I don't see the Texans brass taking Dwyer over Mathews. Other than the fact that Dwyer is an option back who never had to catch the ball out of the backfield, here's another reason:

Notice the system Fresno State is running? Looks eerily similar to something all us Texans fans are used to seeing, doesn't it? The game is fast, strong, and can catch the ball out of the backfield. Perfect fit.

The mocks not bad but there's no way Cam Thomas lasts til the 6th round, he'll be gone in the 2nd or 3rd round, he played very well in the Senior Bowl and has been shooting up player evaluation charts. Also I'd rather have Ben Tate than Gerhart in the 3rd but that's just my preference.

Yeah I think Mathews is a much better fit for our system than Dwyer as well.

I love all the feedback. I'm not saying I have a perfect mock...it's just something I came up with while bored at work. :bubbles:

I will come up with plenty of others before draft day...most of them are centered around finding a couple players I'd really like to see us get. Matthews is definitely a guy I'd like to see...just didn't happen in this mock. It was more focused on CB/FS.

More mocks to follow...and I know that nobody will be 100percent behind the next one either...or the one after that.

badboy...did you have a mock posted somewhere? If so, can you spare a link?
In this forum, I have posted several threads as the year progressed. ALso, I encourage you to review a joint effort by BeerLover, RMARTIN65 and I recently. We all really love this type of exchange of info and do as much research as possible before posting our thoughts. The three of us are now collaborating on posting another mock shortly post combine. Hope you enjoy and look forward to exchanging ideas and opinions. Steve

Then you need to review the history between me and InfantryCak.

I have followed Murphy for some time and you are only the first or second person that has recognized his skills. He is a pretty good player and should solidify a corner for some team. If we miss on Wilson, Murphy is then in my sights.

That site is awesome. If you go to the CB portion, it has Reeves slated as #41 overall, Quin at #74 and Dunta at #98. None of them score very well. I think CB is the Texans biggest need coming into this draft. I hope they draft 2 CBs, one early and one very late.

The Pound-ster would be a good move. They have to able to get some kind of push up front. The odds and not fate are staked against Schaub not getting creamed eventually because of lack of a rushing attack. Of all of their holes protecting MS is the most important one that needs to be filled. The higher you draft it the less likely you will bust the pick. They must be able to run the ball better next season.
