What if I told you that Caserio could add Joe Notebook, Will Fries , Tutu Atwell, and DeMarcus Robinson for 25-30 million. This is possible. You can clear this much cap space by cutting Howard, Mason as post June 1st cuts and clear even more by cutting Autry, Green etc.. before June 1st.

Then draft Zabel to play center in rd1 and draft defense /BPA the rest of the draft. This can be done. Will Caserio and Ryans do it?

Caserio, Schuplinski, Caley and I believe Popovich all went to JCU. Popovich may have only worked with them with the Pats. Anyways they have a shared vision of what their offense and the players it takes to run it looks like. This hasn't always been the case down on Kirby.
 
Zabel is from ND state. Look at Nick’s drafting history. Not a lot of North Dakota state types. I’ve never seen Zabel play. Heard he tore it up as the SB…but it would be very unlike Nick to take a guy like that, especially early in the draft.

Agreed, But picking a guy like Booker or Jackson is right up his alley. Although I like Zabel as much as I like those guys. Not drafting Zabel means Patterson will be the center next yr. He was very avg last yr and that was an upgrade over Scruggs.

What if I told you that they could add Noteboom/Atwell/Robinson for around 20 mil per yr for all of them. Could you find savings from cutting Mason 9 mil in cap space, Autry 4.5 in cap space. What other cuts would you make to get to 20 mil? I'm guessing that Howard's cap savings will go towards re-signing Stingley. Remember the cap will probably go up by 10 % probably more.

I think they're just waiting to change the colors again of the uniforms to Green.

Two firsts and two seconds...and the LT is a 7th. Heavy investment outside the LT, which at that spot is an outlier. They are also ideally suited to the scheme and have an exceptional O-line coach.

Our line isn't much different.
LT - 1st round
LG - 1st round or 2nd round (Juice vs. Howard)
C - 6th round
RG - 4th round
RT - 2nd round

It isn't like this team hasn't invested into the o-line. I'm not even counting the G we drafted in the first round who is a total bust. And I do have G as my 3rd most likely choice in the first round...but there are tons of damn good guards in the league drafted from the 2nd round down to UDFA's. So, draft one at 25...but if you do it better damn well not be another bust.

In short...It's not where they are drafted it's are they a system fit, and how good is the coaching to get them working together as one cohesive unit.

If you want fast skill position guys draft Brashard Smith RB/Who can play Slot WR. He's a threat to score anytime he touches the ball. Draft Silas Bolden later in the draft.

If you want really fast experienced in this offense then pickup Atwell (Who runs in the 4.3's) and deep threat Robinson. They already know what Caley wants from their WR Corps. You could sign these guys for 10-12 mil per yr.

Fix the OL with rd 1-2 picks and sign Atwell/Robinson in FA is the way I would go. However I'm really intrigued by what adding WR's like Savion Robinson or Jake Bech would mean to this offense.

I'm thinking that a young WR corps of Nico/Tutu/Savion would be dangerous for yrs to come. This would really help open up the offense. Spend the rest of the draft/FA on defense.

If an athletic guy like Donovan Jackson from OSU was there at 1-26 he would be my pick because he's the least likely to bust OL in this draft. (Smart guy) I would also sign vet OG like Fries or Noteboom in FA, more very athletic OL. This would really help CJ out.

As a 5th/6th rd guy that I read about standing out at the Shrine game was Jordan Williams OG Ga. Tech. Dude is a pretty good athlete and is obviously a smart guy. Draft him along with Ga. Tech TE Jackson Hawes late in the draft and watch the run game improve.

Nah, because the pressure rate from yr 1 to 2 was significant. I'm not drafting anymore oline to not pan out. Shaq was bad both Yeats, that's a problem. How many resources must one spend before we get to coaching? 3 1st rd picks and 2, 2nd rd picks? How many picks we going to spend. Nobody spends those amount of resources on the offensive line and it remains a problem. It's coaching, simple as that.

Do you see how unathletic the OL looks? Bringing home Donovan Jackson would help solve some of the issues. Signing a guy like Noteboom or Jenkins would solve more issues. These guys are the type of athletes the current OL is missing. add these 2 guys and I can guarantee you the OL will look much better.

If you want to add say Fries/Noteboom in FA and add Atwell (Spend the money) and draft defense (Particularly the DL) high in the draft then I can get on board with this.

Where are we going to find a coach then? Any suggestions if this years doesn’t do any better and are you not in favor of any FA signings either?

Agreed, but I'm a draft to the strength of the draft guy and fill in the holes in FA. I know FA comes 1st and that's why I would sign at least 2 WR's and one OG in FA so that would open up the draft for BPA.

I still think Caserio should trade 3-127 for Micheal Mayer if possible.

Draft Jackson at 1-26, trade up for Zabel to say 2-35, trade for Mayer. This offense would look so much better.

Maybe the coaches were trying to make players do something they can't. They is no way this oline can block on a track of outside zone, yet they were asked to do just that. This looks like a gap/power blocking unit. Drafting a ol in the 1st 3 rds seem foolish to me. Just as foolish as moving Howard from rt to LG. Rt to rg to get Fisher on the field, ok, I can dig it. Moving him to LG which is changing stance, footwork, is foolish.

There's no question that was the case. And the coaching staff bears some responsibility for asking guys to do more than they can.

At the same time, you want to expand the playbook. You want to a lineman to come off a double team and get to a LB. You want to pull a lineman to get in front of a sweep. You want a lineman to get out and lead on a screen pass. And if the linemen you have can't do these things, it may be time to replace them. If they can't block the pass rusher in front of them, you have to replace them.

Here's a post I made last year regarding drafting offensive linemen. I can make the same post this year and any other year after that and it would hold true.

CJ Stroud is THE reason the Texans can be title contenders. Sure, they have some good d-linemen, good WRs. But this team goes nowhere without Stroud. So you have to be extra cautious and leave no stone unturned when it comes to protecting the organizations most valuable asset. Count all the resources you want at WR, LB, DB. But never make the mistake of going cheap on the o-line when you have a franchise QB.

Mayer played 63% of the snaps, when healthy. Bowers and Mayer often played together. The question going forward is, how often will Chip Kelly be in 12 personnel? If that's not a major part of the Raiders attack, maybe Mayer becomes a tradeable asset. I think Kelly will find a way to utilize both players.

I agree with your words on moving Howard to left guard where he failed miserably before. I was surprised that he seemed to pick it up much better but still not anything more than just a jag. Mason is gone I think most of us agree. Howard although I would like to see his contract go towards free up cap, is probably going to remain and I would like to see him at Right Guard. Of course that leaves left guard open. The problem with free agents will Fries and Trey Smith are both are basically right guards. Cutting Howard opens up cap space that would cover either Fries or Smith and gives us a Right Guard for sure rather than a Howard possibility.
I do not like any of the offensive guards in the draft. Josh Conerly is expected to weigh 315 at combine and I think under an NFL diet training he could increase it easily to hunker down at left guard. He is an amazingly athletic young man with a good skill set that could take over for Tunsil at some point.

Other than Blake fisher, who do you think on our line can lead a sweep? I just do not see this offensive doing well under Caley.

The Texans aren't going to be able to turnover as much of the offensive line as I would like. Caley is focused on getting the best of what he has. Good luck with that, Nick.

How many teams you see running a sweep? Even Ravens are a outside zone team. Again, find out what the group does best and work in that consistency of what they do well.

Mayer as a rookie pre Bowers looked avg to me. If we want to use the qb thing, ok, that do matter, but we seen Bowers with that same qb. If he was available, a 5th or 6th based on his production. If he a 1st down te or is he a difference maker at that position? If he's a solid blocker/safety blanket type guy, then you have that in Stover already.

You don't have to have this expansive playback, just do a few things great. I see them better at duo and gap vs on the rail like the 2011 squad. How about just be good inside out? Don't let a simple stunt get your qb blown up because guys are blocking out in.

Mayer is a much better blocker than Stover is. He's also got a great set of hands and was productive his rookie yr. Bowers is special.

You're making these assumptions based on what? I watched the Raiders pre Bowers and nothing stood out as great with him.

He's a very good blocker with reliable hands. Something this team has been missing from the TE position for years. This is probably all a moot point, I don't expect Caserio to trade for him.

Which TE in the draft do you like? The position definitely needs an upgrade.

Agreed. I can see them being a productive duo like Gronk/Hernandez if the Raiders find their QB.

If i’m the Raiders i’m not trading him. That offense has one of the least talented skill position groups in the league RB/WR. Jakobi Meyers is their #2 weapon to Bowers and their leading rusher could not crack 500 yards.

I’m not getting rid of one of the few talented players on that side of the ball.

They've got talent, they just need to find a QB and a RB, WR with Speed. If I was Brady, I would draft Jeanty at 1-6 and Will Howard at 2-38, I might even trade into the bottom of the 1st for Howard so I could get the 5th yr option. Then add one of the FA WR's we've been talking about for the Texans and draft Tez Johnson in the 3rd. Their OL is pretty solid, although they could use another OG.

I probably wouldn't trade Mayer either unless the draft feel the way I listed above and in the 3rd rd there was an Edge Spytek really liked. Then I would trade Mayer.

If they need a QB 1, RB 1, and WR 1 I would say they have a talent deficiency.

They really need a QB. But if they get Jeanty they should be fine with WR's Meyers/Tucker and a draft pick. Bing back Adams and the receiver corps of Meyers/Tucker and say Noel in the 3rd. After picking Howard in the 2nd.

If I’m the Raiders, put a call into the Lions and find out what it would take to get QB- Hendon Hooker. I’m thinking the Raiders probably give up a RD3 pick with a conditional pick either this season or next.

Lions will need to get something for him now or risk watching him walk.
