NFL Gameday 9/08/13

Brady has the ball and 4+ minutes. Buffalo will find a way to lose it.

Edit:
How come nobody b!tc#es when Brady dinks & dunks down the field??

If Buffalo didnt shoot itself in the foot like 5 times this game they would be crushing the Pats

New England turned the ball over more than Buffalo (3-2) and once inside the 5 yard line as well as killing them statistically. Buffalo is lucky to have been so close.

I can't believe that the Bills wasted that great game by Mario Williams #WTF #Bills #Overpaid #USELESS

Didn't really think this was going to work, but it was worth a try. :swatter:

If you say it with the specific intention of bring proven wrong, it doesn't count!

Every year I think I can't possibly detest the Brady-Belichick Patriots more than I have in the past. And every year I am proven wrong. I've watched the NFL for nearly 40 years and there has never been a team I have disliked as strongly as this one.

And only two late afternoon games to follow. WTF, NFL? :mcnugget:

[Edit to add: It's a pretty sad commentary on announcers these days when Joe Buck and Troy Aikman are considered the "best" in terms of getting the biggest game of Fox's Sunday afternoon options.]

Watch Kaepernick. Is it just me or are most of his plays 1-2 reads then take off and run?

Saints pass defense still looks bad. How does Rob Ryan keep getting jobs as a DC?

Rob Ryan's defensive scheming was the difference in the game with the offense out of sync and putting them in tough positions.

I didn't care for the hire, and I'm still not sure it will be enough.

But there's a huge difference between this year and last year through one week.

Spags is working with the BAL defense, now, and watching that game the other night reminded me of a lot of Saints games last year. We don't have the personnel to be an elite defense, and we are down 3 of our top 6 DL guys. The ones who played had to play a lot and played hard, right up to the last play. they played for Ryan and he deserves some credit for their resiliency, imo

The ATL OL isn't strong so I am not going to bank on a repeat performance.

But I'll take Ryan over Spags any day.

The question is: how does Spags keep getting jobs?

I thought that was going to be a shootout game after Atlanta's first possession, but the Saints defense stepped up and played pretty good today.

I think Spags is getting jobs off what he did with the Giants against Brady.

#74 for SF -- idiot. Just negated a 15 yard personal foul with retaliation.

[Edit to add -- just got bailed out with an SF touchdown.]

This is where the NFL gets it wrong, well, one of the places they get it wrong. Should be offsetting personal fouls and then enforce the penalty on Mathews.

....and yeah, Staley was an iddiot

Boldin for 6th = dumbest trade ever.
3rd dumbest...
You'd have to go some to top the Ditka trade all the Saints picks for the rights to draft Ricky Williams
or the Hershel Walker swindle that Jimmy Johnson pulled on the Vikes.

I'll give you those two. The Boldin trade looked lopsided when it happened, and today it looks even worse. I guess we'll see what happens towards the end of the season.

14-14 gb-sf halftime

I didn't see the offsetting penaties but announcers said officiating crew got it wrong

There was a late hit on Clay Matthews. Then after the play was over, a fight broke out. They called the late hit on GB and a dead ball retaliation on SF. By the rules, as they called it, the down should have counted, the penalties should have offset, and it should have been 4th down. But they replayed the 3rd down.

IMO, they should have enforced the late hit, and then called the offsetting penalties based on the ensuing skirmish.

Mike P. said that they shouldn't have been allowed to replay 3rd down I wasn't aware that personal foul penalties on the offense was a loss-of-down situation.

They went to that officials guru they always go to and he said the penalties offset and instead of re-playing 3rd down it should have been 4 and 2.

Imo, they should give players leeway when their QB is hit late and illegally out of bounds. You got to be able to stick up for your QB in that situation.

I thought Staley was stupid, but if you noticed, he just went to Mathews and jawed without anything more than grabbing Mathews' jersey. No penalty there, imo.

Agreed, but when someone has gift-wrapped 15 yards for you, you take it. Just the same it's not reasonable to expect *extreme* restraint when someone just takes a chot at your QB well out of bounds.
