NFL DRAFT

Ugh...I don't like going into next year's draft.
Why? Next year will be the year of the Texan.
Watson eventually will settle when these two lawyers finally agree on a settlement and then Watson will be traded for a kings ransom and HOU will have a boat load of picks.
This team isn’t fixing this mess of the previous regime in one year.

Texans are going to be bad next season but they need to hit on a RB this draft so the offense has some rays of sunshine going into 2022. Bad season and Watson trade will give the Texans the much needed draft assets to fix the defense in a hurry.

Caserio is moving his chess pieces.....no way in hail was he going to checkmate this draft or the 2021 season. If the Texans finish with a top 3 pick in 2022 while brining in another round of picks from Watson in 2022 and 2023, Caserio will be set to make this team young and inexpensive in a hurry.

Tunsil may be the next one adding additional draft picks in 2023. The team will be dumping other old contracts/players.....or maybe they get a pick or two in the process.

Not after restructuring his contract. The dead money now prohibits trading Tunsil and his contract is up after 2023.

Well in closing on the Texans first day on the second day of the draft, I've been programmed over the last dozen years or so to expect the worst from the this outfit. But never in my wildest dreams did I think tonight's Houston Texans draft would be as bad as it turned out to be. Based on the FUBARS of the last 3 months you just knew and expected another nightmare. Cal, Nick and Jack did not disappoint. They delivered!

You know my post was in jest. Mills may have talent but it's not NFL talent. His arm strength is not NFL caliber. Ball does come out of hand quickly but not much zip, Mills is susceptible to many INTs in NFL. Mills makes quick decisions but already makes bad decisions, had 17 turnovers in 1 1/2 years. But we know the real reason Davis Mills was drafted, HE WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL AT GREATER ATLANTA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL :) He will make Janice very proud of her new QB.

The Texans will have choice of QBs in 2022 and top qbs will be better than Mills which would make Mills a wasted pick.
Yeah, I’m surprised he didn’t go to TCU. idonno:

It's going to be a long, long, long decade.

The middle of a lost decade.

Doesn't have to be that way though.

If and I will admit I dont know (I would've held out for Strong next yr) but if Caserio hits on Mills and drafts well after a bad season and trades DW4 for the equivalent of two 1sts the rebuild could be a lot faster than you think. I dont like that Caserio traded a 2022 (Deep draft) for Collins.

If you didn't think Caserio could screw up this draft think again, he did. Davis Mills, QB Stanford comes with accuracy issues and arm problems with no real history. Don't forget Caserio traded for Finley. What a goofball. ANDS Texans will be picking #1 in the 2022 draft with choice of the best QB available. Not to mention you will have a new coaching staff in 22 or 23. The dumpster fire continues. Caserio does not understand draft capital. Understand now why Kraft threw him under the bus. Good Grief. SMDH

What arm problems did he have.

I read that he had knee issues.

From the clips I saw Mills looks like he has plenty of arm.

Picking a developmental QB equals no vision?
Not after you signed a QB , traded for a QB who ws going to be cut, will have your choice of better QBs in 2022 and your defense is worse than the 2020 defense. No, Caserio proved tonight he is another failed Belichick clerk but he had less than a 2% chance of success.

After the draft tonight Bob Kraft went to his office put his feet up on his desk, lit a cigar, smiled, then thought how glad he was the architect of his last 5 poor drafts that cost him $200MM in FA is now f'ing it up in Houston. :)

When they asked Davis Mills head coach David Shaw about Davis Mills, Shaw said he was FAIRLY accurate. FAIRLY ACCURATE? and that was in college.

Aaron Wilson on Twitter: "Nick Caserio on rookie quarterback Davis Mills: @Millsions 'Played in a good offensive system, played for a good coach. @CoachDavidShaw Good size, fairly accurate with the ball, smart, makes good decisions.'" / Twitter

This just depends on if Mills is successful. Signing Taylor to be a bridge and trading a late rd pick for Finley not knowing who would be there at 67 isn't an issue for me.

BTW, Drafting Mills doesn't preclude picking a QB in 2022. If they decide Mills isn't the guy then they lost a 3rd rd pick.

Never thought I would see the day that cavalierly throwing away a 3rd RD pick would be OK with you.

Depends on if Mills can become I top tier starting QB. I haven't seen him play other than in a few vids. From what I've read, he's got starter level talent but injured his knee in high school and college. Which is worrisome. You said he has had an arm injury too?

Since I haven't seen Mills play I'm going to give Caserio the benefit of the doubt. For the record I would've picked Melifonu.

Another thing on the vision. A good GM with vision would know that he would draft a much better QB in the 2022 draft.

Next years' QB class is CRAP. The rest of the draft will be GREAT. Mills could be a Jimmy G. You take him and develop and probably trade him. Or he becomes your starter if don't have anyone else in 2 years. We don't know what will happen with Watson. NC has to think down the line...

This draft even more than last year will be harder on scouts to evaluate prospects with the Covid protocols and all the prospects who opted out and/or had shortened seasons. Texans took a QB with a limited number of starts who may have played himself into a 1st round status with a full season as a starter whether he played a full season this year or stayed in school another year.

Same with the WR Nico Collins, if he had played this season he may have gone higher.

Or then again they may have gone lower with more film... the extra layer of uncertainty compared to normal makes the draft an even larger crapshoot than it already is... which makes those extra day 3 picks we have no different than the UDFA lottery tickets. I applaud the Texans for moving up and taking risks on prospects they have conviction on (even if I disagreed on the vision). I would like them to see them move up again packaging more of their picks today if a player they see falling is available (looking at you Jabril Cox!). They will have plenty of opportunities at lottery ticket UDFAs. I don't mind trading the rest of the picks we have left if we can get 1-2 more players the FO think highly of this season and beyond. We signed enough FAs to create competition, no need to add more bodies. Quality over quantity!

I agree with your statement on evaluating with Covid protocols. I read somewhere that they moved up for Collins because Hamilton had a history with him at Michigan.
I wasn’t happy with the Mills pick. I thought we could’ve addressed other needs, but it’ll be interesting to see how he develops with Pep in his ear.
I want us to address defense. Yes we brought in a bunch of guys to create competition, but all of them are on 1 to 2 year contracts. We need to build a base of younger guys.

I'll give you four names to watch for next for the 2021 college season, Sam Howell, Carson Strong, Spencer Rattler and Desmond Ridder. Arguments for all that they are better than Mills.

Pep's influence was on both 3rd round picks...given his previous working relationship with Stanford HC David Shaw. Ben Mcdaniels also joined the Texans after serving at Michigan while Collins was in school and no doubt had given his thoughts on the prospect.

I agree about the defense, but due to the previous administration's blunders the cupboards are bare and Caserio and company are trying to build this team the best way they think they can given the circumstances. I'll give them another offseason before I start getting too upset with their ideas.

That’s fair. I’m going to be really interested on what we get for DW, and how we use the picks that we accumulate.

That will start today and really start after the DW4 trade.

The key word is (arguments) in your post.

Time will tell.

This is really not about Mills as much as it is about the Belichick clerk. Since he decided to make Mills part of the discussion here is my take. There is no doubt that there is probably not any QB in this draft with a quicker release than Davis Mills. While you stand there in awe waiting for his 95 mph fastball you see his 85 mph change up. So when you ask is he going to throw his fastball you are told that was it. Oh and by the way, he comes with 3.00 WHIP.

Maybe his quick decision making and quick release is compensation for his 85 mph fast ball. :)

I'm looking forward to seeing his arm strength. From the Colorado vid , he had the arm strength to throw the deep out and the deep shot between the CB/S 25 yds down the field from the opposite hash. Remember the hases are wide in college. He did overthrow a deep ball that would've been a TD if thrown on target. That makes me question his deep ball accuracy.

In short after watching the Colorado vid it look like he's got good arm strength and can make all of the throws but doesn't have a Mahomes arm. Looks like Schaub with a better arm to me.

You see a lot of air, you don't see many ropes.

The play was on thelast drive where he threw it between the S/CB and it was a rope. (Colorado game.) However if you're looking for a guy with a Mahomes arm Mills isn't your guy.

From what I'vseen (Very little) Mills looks to have a slightly better arm than Jimmy G with a slightly slower release.

In Passing Efficiency he was #43 in the Top 50. In college you like QBs to have a 3 to 1 TD to INT ratio, Mills is barely over 2 to 1. This reflects poorly to the NFL.

He fell pretty hard because he tested poor on his RAS but tape is awesome. Really like the fit here and primary outlet for Taylor/Mills....

I read his description which is intriguing, but we’re ignoring our defense. We have so many holes on defense that we’re not addressing. That’s mainly where my frustration is coming from.

Nick Caserio is either way smarter than everyone or he has no clue what he's doing. Everyone in the world knows our weakness last year was our defense and all he picks are offensive players.
