Until they are taken JUST before us, similar to the Glen Coffee scenario last year.

Toby was not on Smithiak's radar, at least not enough to stay at the spot and take him. Which means Smithiak has lots of guys (targeted) they can take later in the 2nd.

Or they went and took a piss and some intern traded our pick while they were gone. LOL.
 
I think once the Texans saw Jim Brown walk on to the stage with his cane, they were convinced he can be our running back for the next 10 years. I'd also go ahead and draft Rod Woodson and John Randle.

If we get one in this round and the trade down, I'll be pinging.
 
Same old Denver Bronco imported philosophy. You can put a trained monkey back there as RB. That was crap, Gerhart was a perfect fit, even if he is white.
 
well toby fans look at it this way, has there ever been a premier running back who was white? lol i love the 2nd round lol
 
I hope this doesn't end up being like the time we traded down with the Chiefs, passing on Derrick Johnson to pick up Travis Johnson.

If Gerhart turns out to be Alstott type player whom we need badly considering how many games we lost last year because we don't have anyone that could gain 1 or 2 yards, well this will be another one of those blunders.

coffee isnt exactly making anybody regret not taking him so far
 
well crap, nfl.com just switched from live coverage to their talking heads crew in the studio.
 
Why are people so upset about this. Over and over again I've heard, on this board and other NFL boards, that this is one of the deepest draft in recent years. We get an extra THIRD just by going back 11 spot. That is a huge pick-up, and I'm confident Smitiak can pick good players in all three of our picks today.

Riggins and Mike Alstott come to mind though Alstott primarily played FB he ate up chunks of yards and kept drives alive.

damn. i didnt know drafting toby wouldve won us some of those games LAST year. i dont like this trade down actually :fingergun:

Not everyone is sold on Gerhart. EVERYONE was sold on Derrick Johnson.

There are still 4-5 really good backs on the board.
 
I really like Toby... but there's 3 RBs imo (Tate, Dwyer, and Hardesty) that are similarly rated. I'd rather have that extra 3rd round pick. More picks = more chances to add talent.

The same people that are pissed about this trade down would've been cheering had the Texans traded down yesterday in a similar scenario.
 
Wow. Eisen completely dissed fans who say they don't like NFLN beating the commissioner to the punch on announcing the picks.

EXACT WORD-FOR-WORD QUOTE from Eisen:

In short: NFLN follows the tweets and re-announces news that has already been tweeted.

The old media is being undermined, and they are pissed about it. That's why they are trying to beat people to the punch.

Gerhart is not noticeably better than any of those guys.
 
Awesome trade! Way to go Smithiak. All the Toby lovers notwithstanding, there wasn't a "must have" player there. We can pick up Dwyer (my choice) or one of the other RB's in the 2nd, and address the other 3 clear needs we have with the two 3rd's and the one 4th.

No, but if we lose those types of games next year you will seriously not be liking this trade down IF Gerhart turns out to be a good back.

I know, but it's a similar storyline: Smithiak says they targeted Coffee, but he was gone before we could get him.
