NFL Draft 2010: Day 2

That's it, I'm going back to my sig line.

It's amusing how people freak out about third rounders like they know for sure that they know better than the front office. The entire draft is a crapshoot.

Loving the picks so far, filling positions of need.

From WalterFootball.com:

Earl Mitchell, Arizona
Height: 6-1. Weight: 294.
Projected 40 Time: 4.88.
Combine 40 Time: 4.70.
Benchx225: 25. Vertical: 33.
Projected Round (2010): 5-6.
1/24/10: A 4-3 under tackle only, Earl Mitchell had 48 tackles, 12.5 TFL and 6.5 sacks in 2009. A converted H-back.

colt mccoy might have been a decent pick for us instead of that 215 lb 2nd team all pac-10 dt. i like schaub but he hasn't been real durable.

OK so we make a pick, and they are still talking about Denver? :bat:

The NFL Network still hasn't mentioned the pick.

That's because we are drafting well and Josh McDaniels is being goofy, and it's earning them face-time on the networks.

McDaniels is creating an ever-evolving train wreck with each move he makes, and it's driving the media to follow it and try to understand it (and to try and figure it out, and then tell us what they think about it). People slow down and stare at a wreck as they drive by it--And McDaniels is creating a wreck for everyone to gawk at. That's my official stance on this. He's into getting people to put their eyeballs and ears onto his team. Period. It's modern-day Magic Elixir & Hair Tonic marketing.

Business as usual for the sports media.

From SI's draft coverage:

Biography: Two-year starter at defensive tackle after beginning his college career at tight end. All-Conference selection as a senior after posting 48/12.5/6.5. Junior totals included 40/5.5/1.5.

Positives: Athletic defensive tackle who showed steady progress in his game the past two seasons. Plays with good lean, focused on by opponents in the middle of the line and flashes power. Keeps his pads low to the ground, has a compact build, and is rarely off his feet. Fluid moving about the field, quickly changes direction, and strings plays laterally.

Negatives: Must do a better job protecting himself. Easily ridden from his angle of attack at times. Displays minimal moves with his hands.

Analysis: Since moving to the defensive tackle position as a junior, Mitchell has shown flashes of tremendous ability. He offers a good degree of upside potential, and he should only get better as he improves his playing strength and develops the details of his new position.

Projection: 2-3

Robert Johnson is still there as a FS too.

I think at this point in the draft, big boards get very divergent.

Except that NO-ONE likes Everson Griffen.

Great find. Rep added.

I kind of wish we had taken Shipley, but Mitchell may just need some time in the weight room.

I would be rather agitated if we now took a WR with our other 3rd round pick, when we could have taken Shipley and still gotten Mitchell. But I don't see us taking a WR... Shipley is just a unique player.

Our guy ran a 4.73 40. Theirs ran a 5.05.

Let's get Dwyer to completely revamp the run game :)

All seriousness, I have no knowledge of any of these remaining player besides Dwyer.
