nfl.coms 7 round draft

27. Houston Texans: Menelik Watson, OT, Florida State. I don't agree with Watson being a first-round pick, but he shows more athleticism on the field than in drills and teams appear to be intrigued by his upside

57. Texans: Keenan Allen, WR, California. Thanks to a slower 40 time and prolonged recovery process, Allen could wind up in the late second-round. He wins with burst in and out of breaks and reliable hands at the catch point.

89. Texans: Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas

95. Texans: Jordan Reed, TE, Florida.

124. Texans: William Gholston, DE, Michigan State.

160. Texans: Luke Marquardt, OT, Azusa Pacific.

195. Texans: Cobi Hamilton, WR, Arkansas.

201. Texans: Cierre Wood, RB, Notre Dame

233. Texans: Rodney Smith, WR, Florida State.

I would love this draft!!!

I have a hard time believing they will draft a QB with 4 on the roster already. Not that I am against it, I just dont see it happening. I also have a hard time taking a RT in round 1. Especially being a ZB team, we excel in finding less in demand linemen who are more athletic. I love the WR in the 2nd, opening up the 1st for a TE or DE, and a MLB in the 3rd.

No OLB, ILB, safety or Nose? I would be furious even if I am okay with players selected if those positions ignored.

I don't think they'll go QB that early, but if thy really likep Bray, Mcghee would be pretty easy to get rid of.

I agree! This mock looks like it was thrown together with no thought at all. How would the Texans take 3 WR's and 2 OT's and not take an ILB, OLB, NT, or S which are definite areas of need?

I'd be perfectly fine with the first 5 picks (with a little head scratching at the QB in round 3). After that I'd like to see a little more focus on defense...

But Menelik in the first and Allen in the second? I'd be thrilled about that!

I'd be pretty stoked about getting Tyler Wilson with our 3rd, that's a good value for him. I would not be happy with 3 WRs and 2 OTs, we desperately need depth at ILB and OLB. Need to flip at least two of those into LBs and a safety would be nice.

As I said, like th eplayers even Wilson but need to resolve the other spots also. Maybe they think A nose and ILB will be cut after June 1st or a vet will lower his price. A Bradie type for example with a healthy Cushing for 16 games is ok with me.

I would love this draft.

I don't necessarily think we need a 1st rounder at OT, but if we get the right guy at RT, this team will go to another level. We won't be the fakers that finished 12-4. We would dominate & truly belong among the elite teams for years to come.

That is if we get the right guy. The right guy would keep Matt from having to adlib & make plays outside the pocket. The right guy would allow us to run the ball at will. The right guy may very well be Derek Newton, but I think finding the right guy is important enough that we take the kind of chance this draft implies... that Derek may not be the right guy.

Three WRs, and another young back ensures competition will be fierce at the skill position. We can only benefit.

Yes, we've got issues with our outside pass rush. We've got issues at ILB. But if we change our philosophy & begin to run up the score (like we know we can) JjWatt & them boys on Kirby will do what they need to do.

I'd love this draft. It's bold & puts pressure on all the right places.

Wait... where's the NT, ILB, and the OLB we're supposed to be so badly in need of..??

I think even though we hate Kubiak, we appreciate his brilliance so much that we take it for granted. Year in & year out this is one of the better offenses in the league even though it's put together with guys most of us wouldn't have selected. Kubiak is successful with them, so they're "good enough" & not as much a need as OLB (or outside pass rusher) even though we've drafted a number of them through the years. Mario, Connor, Cushing, Brooks, Mercilus,

We've got Ed Reed & Danieal Manning at safety. Along with Kj, Jj, McCain, & Harris, I don't think there's a team in the league with a secondary like we got.

This is an offensive driven league. We need to be able to gain 400 yards on a bad day. Score 30 points a game, just for the heck of it.

It's time for Wade to make some lemonade.

I have a feeling you are going to be real disappointed with the real draft. Real drafts don't always workout where you fill all holes. These are good players for the spots taken. I want defense especially NT more than anyone.

I'm not loving this draft.

It ignores ILB which I consider critical and a much bigger need.

I wouldn't mind us looking for a RT but I don't see us taking two with the developmental guys we've already got.

I don't see us taking Tyler Wilson there.

If you were to tweak this draft a little bit and do this:

27. Menelik Watson, OT
57. Keenan Allen, WR
89. Jon Bostic, ILB
95. Jordan Reed, TE
124. William Gholston, DE
160. Earl Wolff, S

I would LOVE this draft.

This mock was obviously put together by someone who has no clue of the Texans needs, someone just throwing names up on the board.

Yeah, we only have to look back 12 months for me to be disappointed by our draft, lol. Here is my thought, we really need WR 2, ILB, OLB, safety and NT. In my draft and others, ILB can be had in 5th. So even without a trade down we should fill all those. Only the team knows how Newton is healing and how he might be by game one. That is the kink, imo. Still a late round Rick Wagner along with Harris could get us through a few games. A highly possible trade down picking up another day two....? YOWZA! :turtle:

Look I don't know much about any of these prospects but this mock draft is a joke.
Wait a minute, if you do not know the players how can you say it is a joke? Disagree and say why but do not label as a joke. Seriously good players. He can substitute an OLB like Q. Smith in 5th & ILB in 6th like Beauharnais. There is every indication that Smith may be willing to go with Mitchell at NT for season and go with what he has as back up or select an UDFA (TJ Barnes) or a vet for back up.

My thoughts exactly. Looking at how things developed in this draft this is who I would have drafted.

27. Sylvester Williams - Pretty much a perfect fit for our system. He can hold up against the run and rush the passer.

57. Keenan Allen - Could turn out to be a real steal.

89. Phillip Thomas - Interception machine, instinctive, and good against the run.

95. David Quessenberry - OT- Can play C, G, and T but I would look at him to be our eventual replacement at RT. Nasty player.

124. Ty Powell - Good player who worked out very well at the combine. Very high upside.

160. Sean Porter - Looks like the Texans believe that he can play ILB in our system. Plays stronger than his listed strength. Saw one play where he abused Warmack from Alabama on a power play. It was very impressive.

195. Steve Williams - Very good production in college and did very well at the combine. Has a knack for breaking up passes. If coached up I believe that some of those broken up passes could be turned into interceptions.

201. A.J. Klein - Seems to lack some of the physical traits that one looks for but he is just the kind of guy you want on your team.

233. Jasper Collins - Slippery WR who knows how to play the position.

Based on the positions picked not the players themselves. We have big needs at NT, ILB, OLB, and OT.
