If I were the Texans I would trade up with NE at 29 take Nix and my DL would be dominant for yrs to come.

Draft Brett Smith in the 3rd and trade up for Morgan Moses in the late 3rd and my OL/DL would be set for yrs to come.

Yep, looking at the playoff teams it's obvious that you only need a defense to win in this day and age. QB play means nothing really, we can just roll Schaub out there since he's under contract and never address the QB position. :fingergun:

As the rubber hits the road, team needs & best prospect to address that need grow every closer to reality. Pass Rusher & Offensive Tackle, besides QB are huge needs as well. So what if Texans choose Clowney then Mosses? How would they best fill their QB need? If they trade #1 pick with Jacksonville or Cleveland would Clowney still be there #3/#4? Addressing these three positions of need is potentially a possibility if everything goes Texans way.

Did I say Schaub and QB means nothing? I just prefer the way I said and that is all. As I have been saying in other threads that 2014 QB prospects some how do not look strong to me. I don't mind if we pick QB prospect to groom in 2nd rd or later but not 1st overall pick. But if Texans to pick QB in the 1st, I will prey wish the best to succeed for whoever we pick. Alright?
 
I caution board members to consider that Daniel Jeremiah is a former NFL scout. He had 3 jobs with 3 different teams in 6 years. Now he's a talking hairdo on TV. This should tell you something. If a resume ever came across my desk with 3 jobs with 3 different companies in 6 years it went straight to the trash can. In other words Daniel Jeremiah wouldn't be on my draft board.

O'Brien will evaluate our current qb's plus those in the draft and those available via free agency/trade.

I have more confident in him choosing a qb than McNair and Rick Smith. :handshake:

Santo, thank you for clarifying. :handshake: If OB decided to pick other than QB position, I don't thing he would look as foolish at all. If OB thinks this year's QB prospects aren't worth #1 overall pick than so be it. I still support the Texans anyway as I am sure we all are as fans.

My response would be this question:
There are two quality tackles at the top of the draft, Jake Matthews and Greg Robinson. Does anyone really believe that Quessenberry or B. Williams are of that quality?

I'd hate to see us pass up a chance build a solid O-line in hopes that one of those question marks "can handle the job".

Isn't this one of the most discouraging developments of this team - collapse of what many felt, was a premier OL? Replace Newton with Robinson or Matthews problem solved with a foundation piece moving forward the next 10+ years. Then which ever QB O'Brian wants to develop has a solid blocking scheme, premier running attack & tools needed to succeed. There is no disgrace, or precedent taking OT with the first overall pick either. Good chance if Texans did select Robinson, St. Louis picking #2 take Matthews, that's picks #1 & #2 overall taking OT, just like last draft Fisher/Joeckel.

Cleveland gets Sammy Watkins, Teddy Bridgewater, & Carlos Hyde in the first 35 picks. Not the way I would go, but Cleveland would be an interesting team to watch for sure.

As far as the Clowney/McCarron thing. I hate that "ultimate winner" line, but I do agree with the game manager + our current play-makers thinking. I hope we get a strong OL candidate with our next pick.

I know people don't like the "game manager" QB, and I think McCarron is more than "just" a game manager, but that's where I think all QBs should start. I don't think we're as talentless as some. With the right game manager we can win 9 games this season. With the right teacher/coach, McCarron can be a franchise QB.

What so good about Nix? People want to criticize Teo during the nat champ game,but look closer at Nix. He was getting blown off the point all game inside. Not to mention he has injury problems and you can't spell dog without his name being included.

He's a 340# NT who's quick on his feet and who commands a double team and clogs up the middle. If you single him, he will usually get some push in the pocket.

He's generally considered a 1st round talent. If you have a shot at him in the middle of the 2nd round, then that's a very good value and you should get him.

He needs some work and his game isn't perfect but he's got a lot of upside and he's EXACTLY the sort of player that RAC is going to be looking for on that line.
