That would be sweet!

Bucky Brooks Mock

1 HOU
JADEVEON CLOWNEY DE SOUTH CAROLINA

Bill O'Brien bypasses the chance to take a quarterback to pair Clowney with J.J. Watt to create a formidable frontline.

2 STL
GREG ROBINSON OT AUBURN

Jake Long's injury prompts Jeff Fisher to secure a franchise tackle to protect Sam Bradford.

3 JAC
TEDDY BRIDGEWATER QB LOUISVILLE

General manager David Caldwell tabs Bridgewater to be the new face of the franchise.

4 CLE
JOHNNY MANZIEL QB TEXAS A&M

Johnny Football would energize an organization desperate for a legitimate franchise quarterback.

5 OAK
BLAKE BORTLES QB CENTRAL FLORIDA

Bortles is not a finished product, but the Raiders could view him as an upgrade over Terrelle Pryor and Matt McGloin.

6 ATL
ANTHONY BARR OLB UCLA

Barr could give the Dirty Birds a pass-rushing presence that was absent in 2013 after the departure of John Abraham.

7 TB
JAKE MATTHEWS OT TEXAS A&M

Lovie Smith would like to find a pass rusher to solidify the defense, but Matthews would complete a physically imposing offensive line.

8 MIN
KHALIL MACK OLB BUFFALO

The Vikings defense needs an infusion of youth and athleticism along the frontline. Mack fits the bill as a versatile linebacker capable of rushing the passer or dropping into coverage.

9 BUF
ERIC EBRON TE NORTH CAROLINA

General manager Doug Whaley will look to add an explosive weapon in the middle of the field to help foster the growth of E.J. Manuel.

10 DET
JUSTIN GILBERT CB OKLAHOMA ST.

he secondary has been the weakest link of the Lions defense for years. Gilbert will not only upgrade the back end, but he would become a star playing behind a ferocious frontline that creates persistent pressure on the passer.

11 TEN
HA HA CLINTON-DIX S ALABAMA
It's time for the Titans to had a playmaker in the middle of the field. Clinton-Dix is capable of thumping runners in the hole, while also floating over the top to eliminate the deep ball.

12 NYG
TAYLOR LEWAN OT MICHIGAN
General manager Jerry Reese and coach Tom Coughlin will look to add a skilled big body to an offensive line desperate for a franchise player on the edge.

13 STL
RYAN SHAZIER OLB OHIO ST.
The Rams could add an explosive defender to a dominant frontline that features a host of young, athletic disruptors.

14 CHI
TIMMY JERNIGAN DT FLORIDA ST.
The lack of a dominant 3-technique rendered the Bears defense helpless against the run. Jernigan fills that void and gives the unit an energy player along the frontline.

15 PIT
DARQUEZE DENNARD CB MICHIGAN ST.
As a former defensive back coach, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin recognizes the need to add a standout corner to an aging secondary.

16 BAL
SAMMY WATKINS WR CLEMSON
A big-bodied receiver could be in play, and it would be hard for general manager Ozzie Newsome to bypass the top receiver in the draft at this point.

17 DAL
KONY EALY DE MISSOURI
Jerry Jones has been known to gamble on a player with significant upside. Ealy is as talented as they come, but his production doesn't match his athleticism at this point.

18 NYJ
MARQISE LEE WR USC
Several receivers enjoyed better 2013 seasons, but the memory of Lee dominating the Pac-12 for two full seasons could prompt the Jets to pull the trigger on the explosive playmaker.

19 MIA
ZACK MARTIN OT NOTRE DAME
The Dolphins' offensive line struggled well before the Jonathan Martin incident, so identifying a solid offensive tackle is a top priority. Factor in Martin's ability to play inside or outside, he could be the ideal pick in Joe Philbin's mind.

20 ARI
AUSTIN SEFERIAN-JENKINS TE WASHINGTON
The Cardinals need a legitimate threat in the middle of the field to take the passing game to the next level. Seferian-Jenkins is a big-bodied pass catcher in the mold of Rob Gronkowski.

21 GB
LOUIS NIX III DT NOTRE DAME
A safety could be in play at this pick, but a stout anchor in the middle would alleviate the pressure on the linebackers in the running game.

22 PHI
CALVIN PRYOR FS LOUISVILLE
The Eagles' secondary hasn't been right since the departure of Brian Dawkins. Pryor is a firecracker with the skills to shine as a run or pass defender in the Eagles' scheme.

23 KC
ODELL BECKHAM WR LSU
Beckham's explosive running skills makes him a terrific fit in Andy Reid's version of the West Coast offense.

24 CIN
C.J. MOSLEY OLB ALABAMA
Marvin Lewis could look to add a three-down linebacker with versatile skills to young, athletic defense.

25 SD
BRADLEY ROBY CB OHIO ST.
Roby would bring much-needed athleticism and playmaking ability to a Chargers secondary that struggled in pass coverage in 2013.

26 CLE
MIKE EVANS WR TEXAS A&M
Why not add Johnny Football's favorite target to the mix to alleviate the pressure on Josh Gordon on the perimeter? Evans would not only alter coverage, but he would give Manziel a jump-ball specialist to lean on in the red zone.

27 NO
JASON VERRETT CB TCU
Rob Ryan dramatically improved the Saints defense with his exotic blitz schemes. Verrett would encourage more man coverage with his versatility and skill.

28 CAR
BRANDIN COOKS WR OREGON ST.
Cam Newton would love the opportunity to throw to a Steve Smith clone on the perimeter. Cooks might be the best "catch and run" playmaker in the draft.

29 NE
STEPHON TUITT DE NOTRE DAME
Bill Belichick could view Tuitt as a Richard Seymour clone capable of wreaking havoc in the Patriots' hybrid defensive scheme.

30 SF
RA'SHEDE HAGEMAN DT MINNESOTA
Hageman is the kind of athlete capable of blossoming in the 49ers' program. Far from a finished product, Hageman has the size, speed and athleticism to be a dominant player on the interior.

31 DEN
TRAVIS SWANSON C ARKANSAS
If Peyton Manning returns for 2014, it is imperative to add a solid body on the interior to fortify the middle.

32 SEA
KELVIN BENJAMIN WR FLORIDA ST.
The Seahawks are lacking a big receiver on the outside capable of wreaking havoc in the red zone. Benjamin is a Calvin Johnson-like playmaker with the size, speed and athleticism to succeed on the NFL.

1-1 Clowney
2-1 Nix (If he falls to 2nd) if not, LB or trade back to obtain more pick and if it is for mid to later 2nd, pick Mettenberger or LB
3-1 QB Mettenburger(If his available) if not, LB
4th OL, LB or S
5th OL, LB or S
6th OL, LB or S
7th Kicker or ST player

If it goes down as an order of bold names, I would be very happy.

I hope, Quess and B.Williams both come back strong next year.

Yep, looking at the playoff teams it's obvious that you only need a defense to win in this day and age. QB play means nothing really, we can just roll Schaub out there since he's under contract and never address the QB position. :fingergun:

I'm worried that's exactly what they might do

These guys are good which concerns me. They have Mosses going late 1st to Denver
31. DEN
MORGAN MOSES OT VIRGINIA

As the rubber hits the road, team needs & best prospect to address that need grow every closer to reality. Pass Rusher & Offensive Tackle, besides QB are huge needs as well. So what if Texans choose Clowney then Mosses? How would they best fill their QB need? If they trade #1 pick with Jacksonville or Cleveland would Clowney still be there #3/#4? Addressing these three positions of need is potentially a possibility if everything goes Texans way.

Did I say Schaub and QB means nothing? I just prefer the way I said and that is all. As I have been saying in other threads that 2014 QB prospects some how do not look strong to me. I don't mind if we pick QB prospect to groom in 2nd rd or later but not 1st overall pick. But if Texans to pick QB in the 1st, I will prey wish the best to succeed for whoever we pick. Alright?

I caution board members to consider that Daniel Jeremiah is a former NFL scout. He had 3 jobs with 3 different teams in 6 years. Now he's a talking hairdo on TV. This should tell you something. If a resume ever came across my desk with 3 jobs with 3 different companies in 6 years it went straight to the trash can. In other words Daniel Jeremiah wouldn't be on my draft board.

So, are you calling me fool indirectly? I appreciate very much if you could pick your words kindly.

No not at all. I was saying O'Brien doesn't strike me as foolish. I didn't even know you had posted, so i don't mean any disrespect.

O'Brien will evaluate our current qb's plus those in the draft and those available via free agency/trade.

I have more confident in him choosing a qb than McNair and Rick Smith. :handshake:

Santo, thank you for clarifying. :handshake: If OB decided to pick other than QB position, I don't thing he would look as foolish at all. If OB thinks this year's QB prospects aren't worth #1 overall pick than so be it. I still support the Texans anyway as I am sure we all are as fans.

Mock draft 2.0: Jags fill QB need with Manziel

By Daniel Jeremiah
1 HOU JADEVEON CLOWNEY DESOUTH CAROLINA
Blake Bortles fits the Bill O'Brien quarterback profile but passing on Clowney will prove to be difficult.

2 STL GREG ROBINSON OTAUBURN
Robinson will provide a physical presence in the run game and he has the tools to be a dominant pass protector.

3 JAC JOHNNY MANZIEL QBTEXAS A&M
The Jaguars could take a pass rusher or WR Sammy Watkins, but Manziel’s playmaking ability would provide a much-needed spark for their offense.

4 CLE TEDDY BRIDGEWATER QBLOUISVILLE
The Browns have been searching for a franchise quarterback for more than a decade and Bridgewater’s combination of accuracy, poise and toughness is very appealing.

5 OAK BLAKE BORTLES QBCENTRAL FLORIDA
The Raiders could go in several different directions, but they need a long-term solution at quarterback.

6 ATL KHALIL MACK OLBBUFFALO
The Falcons’ pass rush needs to be upgraded, and Mack is the second-best edge rusher in the draft.

7 TB ANTHONY BARR OLBUCLA
Barr could play linebacker in the Bucs’ base defense and put his hand on the ground in passing situations.

8 MIN C.J. MOSLEY OLBALABAMA
If the top three quarterbacks are off the board, Mosley would be a great fit in Mike Zimmer’s defense.

9 BUF SAMMY WATKINS WRCLEMSON
In this scenario, the Bills couldn’t pass up the most dynamic offensive player in the draft.

10 DET JUSTIN GILBERT CBOKLAHOMA ST.
The Lions have some talented young cornerbacks, but Gilbert is on another level and he would match up well with the bigger wideouts in the NFC North.

11 TEN JAKE MATTHEWS OTTEXAS A&M
Matthews would be an upgrade over veteran right tackle David Stewart and he could eventually replace Michael Roos on the left side.

12 NYG TAYLOR LEWAN OTMICHIGAN
The Giants could look at cornerback or wide receiver with this pick, but they have a long track record of selecting linemen in the first round.

13 STL MIKE EVANS WRTEXAS A&M
Adding Robinson and Evans would give the Rams a physical offense to pair with one of the best young defenses in the NFL.

14 CHI TIMMY JERNIGAN DTFLORIDA ST.
The Bears have a desperate need at the safety position, but Jernigan is too good to pass up at this point in the draft.

I'd say you took the blue pill, woke up in your bed, and are now believing whatever you want to believe.
I think he's saying (just a guess) that one of last season's IRed rookies, Quessenberry or Brennan Williams, can handle the job. I don't think anyone in their right mind believes in Newton.

I think he's saying (just a guess) that one of last season's IRed rookies, Quessenberry or Brennan Williams, can handle the job. I don't think anyone in their right mind believes in Newton.
My response would be this question:
There are two quality tackles at the top of the draft, Jake Matthews and Greg Robinson. Does anyone really believe that Quessenberry or B. Williams are of that quality?

I'd hate to see us pass up a chance build a solid O-line in hopes that one of those question marks "can handle the job".

Isn't this one of the most discouraging developments of this team - collapse of what many felt, was a premier OL? Replace Newton with Robinson or Matthews problem solved with a foundation piece moving forward the next 10+ years. Then which ever QB O'Brian wants to develop has a solid blocking scheme, premier running attack & tools needed to succeed. There is no disgrace, or precedent taking OT with the first overall pick either. Good chance if Texans did select Robinson, St. Louis picking #2 take Matthews, that's picks #1 & #2 overall taking OT, just like last draft Fisher/Joeckel.

Bucky Brooks' ThunderKyss Two Round Special Mock

Round 2

33. Houston Texans: AJ McCarron, QB, Alabama
The Texans have all of the offensive weapons needed to be a force in the AFC, but the quarterback position must be addressed. McCarron is the ultimate winner with a ton of experience managing game situations and egos.

34. Washington Redskins: Joel Bitonio, OT, Nevada

35. Cleveland Browns: Carlos Hyde, RB, Ohio State

36. Oakland Raiders: Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida State

37. Atlanta Falcons: Jason Verrett, CB, TCU

59. Indianapolis Colts: Lamarcus Joyner, S/CB, Florida State

60. Carolina Panthers: Jordan Matthews, WR, Vanderbilt

61. San Francisco 49ers: Marcus Roberson, CB, Florida

62. New England Patriots: Troy Niklas, TE, Notre Dame

63. Denver Broncos: Scott Crichton, DE, Oregon State

64. Seattle Seahawks: Jarvis Landry, WR, LSU

I think at this point the Mockers are just making sure that every eligible QB in the draft is mocked to the Texans at least once so they can claim they NAILED IT.

Cleveland gets Sammy Watkins, Teddy Bridgewater, & Carlos Hyde in the first 35 picks. Not the way I would go, but Cleveland would be an interesting team to watch for sure.

As far as the Clowney/McCarron thing. I hate that "ultimate winner" line, but I do agree with the game manager + our current play-makers thinking. I hope we get a strong OL candidate with our next pick.

I know people don't like the "game manager" QB, and I think McCarron is more than "just" a game manager, but that's where I think all QBs should start. I don't think we're as talentless as some. With the right game manager we can win 9 games this season. With the right teacher/coach, McCarron can be a franchise QB.

I think.

That is exactly what I was thinking.

What so good about Nix? People want to criticize Teo during the nat champ game, but look closer at Nix. He was getting blown off the point all game inside. Not to mention he has injury problems and you can't spell dog without his name being included.

He's a 340# NT who's quick on his feet and who commands a double team and clogs up the middle. If you single him, he will usually get some push in the pocket.

He's generally considered a 1st round talent. If you have a shot at him in the middle of the 2nd round, then that's a very good value and you should get him.

He needs some work and his game isn't perfect but he's got a lot of upside and he's EXACTLY the sort of player that RAC is going to be looking for on that line.
