NFL Championship Round Thread

Crap. It looks like I'm going to be a Big Falcon fan for the next two weeks. The fact that Schaub would get a ring in Houston doesn't matter. He would get his ring thanks to the Falcons, not thanks to him.
 
Now a fumble. Time to sing "Turn out the lights, the party's over."

Well, I can't cry for Pittsburgh so there is that. I would REALLY hate for Pittsburgh to win anything in Houston.

Is it really Schaub's fault that his foot was broken and Smith gave him an extension before seeing him play? I hated Schaub throwing all the pick 6's, but it was Smith that gave him the fat contract and Kubiak that continued to trot him out there.

Congratulations on those division titles and 9-7s. Hope they keep you warm. They're in the Super Bowl and they look competent and polished while we look like the same pile of dog crap that we always have even though we're supposed to be much improved over the last three years because of our savior who graciously coaches us.

I wish Schaub all the best with no ill will. I just prefer to see him get his ring in Houston in the backup role. Damn you nitpick my posts like no other.

But if you had been a Falcons fan you would have been calling for them to fire Quinn and dump Matt Ryan after last year. So if you even followed them this year you would have hated it as the coach and QB you hated led them to the Super Bowl.

Just like if the Texans go to the Super Bowl next year (very doubtful, but no more than the Falcons this year) about half the posters on this board will hate it that they went with O'Brien, Smith, and McNair in place because it will mean everything you thought you knew was a pile of poo.

This is true. He is one of many posters that cannot enjoy it if an OB led Texans does well. They'd be pissed if they won the SB.

Where did I say anything about OB's offensive coaching being better than Kyle's? I don't get why you are asking this.

I think Shanahan is a better offensive mind than O'Brien. Do you?

I don't know if we have enough information. As the OC for New England, he O'b did pretty well... As a HC where he's trying to develop an OC & dealing with one journeyman QB after another... Kyle Shanahan doesn't have any experience to compare.

If he's smart, he won't. He'll hire an OC that can do his job.

OB's pretty good in NE was 1 season of not screwing up an established powerhouse.

KS had a decade record including installing and improving his system in multiple non-established teams. And that has included dealing with lots of QBs with Ryan being the best.

No both their last names don't start with the same letter but a comparison can be made.

We've got a lot of information with Kyle as an OC. We've got one year of O'b as an OC.

If I were asked if Kyle was a brilliant offensive mind, I'd say, heck yeah. There's plenty of evidence to back it up.

If I were asked if O'b was a brilliant offensive mind, I'd say who knows?

And that was my question. Which is the better offensive mind, O'Brien or Shanahan?
I say Shanahan. He made Schaub look great, he made RG3 look good, and now he's made Matty Ice look outstanding.

And the icing on the cake (for me) was that he quit the Browns (after one season) rather than submit to the ownership mandate to start Johnny Manziel. Even Shanny knows what his limitations are. :D

Again... I have no idea what kind of "offensive mind" O'Brien has. There's a lot of data out there supporting that Shanahan is one of the best in the game today. There really isn't alot in regards to O'Brien either way.

I think after the 2017 season we'll find out more. O'Brien will likely be going into the season with 3 QB's that will are Year 4 very familiar with OB's system. Most of the players on offense will be familiar with the system.

Season 4 of the O'Brien regime should be a break through year for the Texans. If it's the same old ineffective offense, the same bad calls, the same bad in-game management, the same lack of imagination, I don't know how McNair stays with BoB. The Texans defense is SB quality and it can't be wasted like it has. I watched that Pittsburgh/New England game and by the 3rd quarter I was thinking with just an average offense, the Texans could beat the Pats anywhere.

Then why do you make the assumption and state it towards me as if I've already said that?

No I wouldn't say that based on the last few seasons about OB. Kyle's play calling and play sets look ten times better.

For the record I hate OB's offense that we've had and how its been ran. I like him as a coach as whole still, but offensively he has failed. I don't like the fact that he is calling plays next season. Maybe he'll surprise people, but I doubt it. Big reason why I'd like to see us focus on building an all world "85 Bears" type of defense instead of making QB the all everything. OB hasn't shown that he can coach the QB's that well yet, and I don't have much faith in Rick Smith making the necessary moves to get that guy. He did that last off season and made a bad mistake, so I think that will shell shock him and Mcnair on big moves like that for a while. I hope I'm wrong.

The Texans are doing a massive maskirova. After the SB and before the draft, it will be announced that Shanahan has been signed as Asst. HC offense. He will also be QB coach and handle the play calling. Crennel will be grooming Vrabel and assisting OB on game management. OB will be the glorified cheerleader/disiplinarian/water boy.
