Next up: Ravens

Stroud wasn’t pouting. He had his best friend killed in high school and then watched his best friend on the team sustain a gruesome injury.

Critiquing him for showing emotions is ridiculous.
Nawww… he wasn’t pouting last week and the week before either right?

Psh.

Crying & pouting are not the same thing.
Of course not. And I normally wouldn’t demean someone for feeling such emotion when Dell got hurt but when you have a -track record- of not being able to control your emotions (pouting)… breaking down and crying when a player breaks his leg playing FOOTBALL is… WTF!

For example… my son has been in Shock Trauma ICU for the past nine days and tonight is effin’ Christmas Eve and I haven’t cried yet! He -needs- me to be dad! A strong one. I cry at home, not in front of him nor his doctors.

He lets the game invade his emotions to the point to where I won’t feel he is maximizing his ability to lead. Stroud can be as human as he wants but we also need our quarterback to have ice in his veins. Championships are at stake. Millions of dollars too. The $1000 I spend every time I go to a game might as well be millions to me. He can take his quivering chin back to peewee football.

This season has been a frustrating one, and it hurts to see Dell go down two seasons in a row. He was the reason we were in the game this past Saturday at KC.

I want to see Stroud really lock in and become that ice cold playmaker we know he can be. Sadly I haven't seen anything to show that the offense is going to magically be fixed today (hoping for a Christmas miracle though). I just don't want us to get manhandled and blown out. The team and coaches need to show some toughness today.

Ravens will be without Justice Hill and Nelson Agholor today. Hill in particular is a key component to their short passing game. It looks like Zay Flowers might play without practice this week (LP yesterday in a symbolic walk thru). If he does play he will be compromised and at risk for re-injury.

Agholor did not have significant stats but he did play over 40% of the offensive snaps. Ravens will be without some depth in their receiving options and/or in the case of Flowers, will have a compromised weapon.

Nobody is healthy in week 17. Especially on the road on a short week.

Hope all goes well with your son!

The obvious answer for the Ravens would be to lean on Derrick Henry if their passing game options are limited. But that is a lot to ask even a future HOF back on a short week where he just tallied 26 touches against the Steelers defense. If they saddle him up with a similar touch count against the Texans defense, they are effectively putting a playoff work load on him early (on a short week no less).

Mixon by contrast got 15 touches against KC and 17 against Miami, more than ready for a heavy workload to compensate for the loss of Tank in the passing game.

They need Henry churning out big carry totals in the playoffs. But the Texan fan in me would prefer them to limit Henry, if I were a Ravens fan i’d say run him!

I think we’ll be seeing a lot of the TEs Andrews and Likely in the passing game. And I hope this defense can bottle up Henry/Jackson running the ball.

Prayers being lifted up for your son.

Now on to you, everyone handles things/adversity/pain differently. Some people can hold back their emotions and some can not.

The problem is, Baltimore is the best defense against the run in the league. They only allow 83.1 yards per game on the ground. The Texans run defense is good but they're not that good. They allow 106.8 yards on the ground per game. Conversely, Baltimore is the second leading rushing offense in the league, gaining 181.2 yards per game. The Texans rush offense is 11th.

If the Texans are to win, they will have to do it through the air, or the line has to reverse a season's worth of poor run blocking.

I'm not going to say the Texans can't win. If they play mistake free football, then they have a chance. No room for error and the line has to protect Stroud better than they have all year.

I'm also not willing to say Stroud is mentally weak. He's human. He's been hit a lot this year, it's shown up in his play and now he has the burden of having only one reliable receiving target. Oh, and a very unreliable running game to take pressure off of him and pass protection.

Thanks everyone for the well-wishes. I didn’t mean to derail the thread. I was just saying. Plus… he’s all I’m thinking about today.

He was bitten by a snake. A -bad- bite too. 34 doses of anti-venin so far! Necrosis set in on his surgically repaired ankle but he will be ok! We are hoping for a Christmas miracle today. We want him home.

Prayers being lifted up for your son.

I know that. Maybe Stroud could benefit from boot camp to toughen up.

Praying for your son and you. Miracles still happen but not always in the way that I expect them.
Jesus wept. Tears are not always a sign of weakness.

No they are not. I cry all the time. I’m not gonna cry in the third quarter of a playoff counting game though. I’ll cry after we take care of business. There are 52 other people on that roster sucking it up and playing it out. Cry after time expires in the 4th quarter. Keep in mind… If Stroud didn’t have a track record of pouting… I’d be ok with his emotions.

Plus… Dell needs the team, namely Stroud, to step up and make him more money by winning games. This may be a career-ender for him. He’s gonna need as much as he can get.

We're on the same page.

You & your son are in my prayers.

With the whole father screwing up and his best friend being killed, it would seem like Stroud would be more in a position to handle Dell than most people. I would not have cared about crying if the Texans (offense in particular) had played like they had kept their spit together instead of missing an extra point and being unable to even move the ball enough for a field goal attempt after getting the ball on the 50. There is a level of NOT being a well-balanced human that goes into success in general and sports in specific.

And his press conference where he did not guide reporters into asking about football instead of Dell, was also bothersome to me.

(and blessing to you and your son)

“If Stroud didn’t have a track record of pouting…”

Anyone care to elaborate on that? I watch the games. I haven’t noticed anything in particular that rings different from any other player that shows frustration when things don’t go well. Are you sure you’re not just looking for something to criticize him about?

I guess it speaks to not being able to make up one’s mind about what’s the reason for expectations not panning out. It’s either Stroud, or the OL, or Slowik’s playcalling, or the injuries. It’s been a frustrating season, I get it. It’s the reason why I’m not even watching the game. Who wants to want to throw sh!t at the TV on Christmas Day?

And Nitro, prayers for your son.

& this is my thing. Things happen we can't control. We can control how we respond. I'm tired of the Texans getting punched in the mouth then crawling to the back of the room to lick their wounds.

What's it going to take for this team to get mad & punch back?

Yeah, they'll bully the weak little brothers, but none of them are going to be in the playoffs.

That's kinda been my thing with the Ravens for years too lol

Gotta have leaders that bring the fire

How much of the softness is just a reflection of today's society

This team hasn’t had any “shut the f*^# up” type of guys since Cushing….

You’re exactly right… this team has ZERO punch back. NO fire nothing!!

Looks like we are going to KC for the AFC Championship game…It’s going to be cold. Glad Santa brought me a new jacket

Lamar Jackson has been in the NFL since 2018. He is a two-time MVP. He is about to break and eventually shatter Michael Vick’s all-time QB rushing record (already has the single-season record for a QB). He is tied at the top with four games with a perfect passer rating. He has a 24-2 record as a starter against the NFC. It’s possible he wins a third MVP this year as well.

And yet, he still gets unwarranted and sometimes cruel criticism about his play. I say this as Stroud is a helluva QB, and anyone who wishes the Texans had a better QB is a fool. He quarterbacked a team that won a division title last year, and did it again. Franchise QB’s are not a dime a dozen and they don’t grow on trees. If I was a Texans fan, I’d be damned happy to call him my quarterback.
He hasn't been playing like a franchise QB for most of this yr and this doesn't mean I want him to be traded. But next yr Stroud's got a lot riding on his play.

When your defense out scores your offense that is either extremely impressive or pathetic.

Considering they outscored the offense with 2 points....
Still a better fight than Tyson vs Paul.... but just barely.
