Next up: Ravens

How is everyone managing family commitments around this game?

KO is 9.30PM here, this is probably an extremely UK-centric thing but the Gavin & Stacey Xmas special airs 9-10pm on bbc1.

I would generally put the Texans before all things, Sunday evenings my good lady can do what she wants but i am in front of the main screen with the Texans and a few beers.

Christmas night, with a huge TV event on the main channel, I think I’m going to have to watch on catch up.

At my home in Clear Lake we have our Christmas feast/party on Christmas Eve , and exchange and open presents on Christmas morning so the afternoon is wide open for football.
BTW Welsh man: are you actually in Wales at this time ?

Haven’t been here since last year. Another Christmas game! Last year we flew back to Maryland but we did that for Thanksgiving so we are staying local. Going to a party at a brewery in Spring and will likely watch the game there.

It’s a tough call with both teams on only three days rest. Texans get the benefit of not traveling but they are dealing with more (and more serious) injuries. I don’t think after claiming Diontae Johnson today that he will be available on Wednesday, but we’ll see.

Theoretically, this game has more importance to the Ravens than the Texans. If the Steelers lose the early game to the Chiefs, a W for Baltimore vaults them into first place in the AFCN. Houston has already clinched the AFCS, so other than wanting to be 10-6 vs 9-7, and beating the team that knocked them out of the post-season last year, I think the Ravens have the edge. If the Steelers beat the Chiefs, it may affect their mindset.

I think it’s likely a 7 point or less win for Baltimore.

I highly doubt the new WR plays. He was just added to the team today. He will not have any time to practice with the team or really do much other than fly to NRG and pick up his jersey.

If it were a Sunday game he’d have a shot but this move was for the playoffs, not for Wednesday’s game.

This game has blowout written all over it: Ravens 31, Texans 10. I just don’t see Stroud showing up with the fire needed to compete, and frankly, I don’t think there’s anyone on that team—coach or player—capable of stepping up and getting him back on track. The absence of Dell is going to hit hard, not just physically but mentally and emotionally as well. Without Dell on the sidelines or in the huddle, the impact on Stroud could be massive, leaving the Texans looking like a team searching for its heartbeat and rhythm. The defense might be able to hold on for a little bit but they're going to be on the field too much.

Will Stroud recover from this emotional break? It seems to be more than just concern. I am not suggesting that he is weak but we know that players after suffering the shock of a severe injury take a while to recover. I see this as watching a brother go down with possibly a career ending injury.

What the Texans have going for them is that it’s a road game for the Ravens. And they just finished an important division game against the Steelers that i’m sure was higher on their priority list than this game will be. They still need to win to be in position for their division. But the division rivalry game was the bigger game for them.

I say there is no way we win this.

Having said that I expect this to be a massacre....

They will probably surprise me like they did against the Lions... keep it close, lose in the final seconds causing me to be irritated at the loss cause they will make multiple stupid coaching, execution, penalties in the last minutes to make it like salt in the wound all day.

Not the loss, but the fact that once again..... stupidity is our curse.

Well maybe he saw Tank and Tank told him to win for me or such. I could see Tank getting his mind right

Yes I live in Wales. Any kind of prime time always causes logistical issues for me around my work etc, 9.30pm isn’t too bad just that it clashes with family time on Christmas evening.

I don't think D Johnson was on any Mock Draft in 2019...Our lads had him as a PFA
We were talking about Johnson here leading up to the 2019 draft.

I like Brown and Tyrell Williams. I'm sure some fast guys will get cut. Also the 2nd yr leap most WR's make from V. Smith could happen.

Antione Wesley and Dionte Jonson are guys I like in the draft.

Toledo's Diontae Johnson is a real sleeper that could go 2nd day. He's small, but explosive. And more polished than you would think.

I really like the depth of this receiver class. It doesn't have the superstars like Beckham and Evans. But it has value from mid 1st round well into the 3rd day.

So you're saying Stroud is mentally weak?

As most of you are aware, I came onboard during the Ravens-Texans playoffs week. You all accepted me even as I'm a Ravens fan (well, 1a with Texans being 1b). I can truly say that I'm hoping for an excellent game between the two teams tomorrow. With how welcoming you have all been the past 10/11 months, there's part of me that wants the Texans to come out with the W this time around

1a is gonna kick the snot out of 1b.

Texans line has completely derailed this season. I’m starting to question the champion aspirations of some key players/staff members on this team. 2 years left of Cj rookie contract. Nfls a tough business that you have to leave feelings out of some stuff. Starting Kenyon Green when he shouldn’t have been a starter all because he has texas roots and a former 1st round pick is the behavior of a poverty franchise. Maybe the unexpected 10 wins from last season got to there head. I’m expecting a loss this game. I called out a few kc plays before the ball was snapped and the Texans looked lost on defense. The only quality opponent the Texans beat this season were the bills and that was by 1 point. Ravens will win by 10+ probably. If they couldn’t stop an aging Hopkins and Kelce on predictable zone throws, they won’t stop Lamar. Hope everyone has a great Christmas. Ive lowered my expectations. Its no sense in allowing this team to frustrate you on a holiday

I’ve got better things to do than watch a damn football game on Christmas Day.

Nah, Texans are winning the Superbowl this year

So, I guess you want them to pick quarterback in the draft?

I really hate this board sometimes.
No. I’d rather try to trade for Burrow. He’s unhappy there and I’d imagine Stroud would love to return to Ohio. I know it’s not realistic. I’m just saying that would be my ideal scenario. Actually no… my ideal scenario would be that Stroud grows a set and plays some damn football.

Now see, this I disagree with. As the leader of the team, this sends off a very bad vibe. Self focused and not team focused. Watching a concert like a fan rather than rallying the squad and going over plays like a football player/team captain. What's to keep the rest of the team from staying out and fan boying during halftime

I was trying to be positive about the season, but after the Tank injury, it just feels like this franchise is snake bitten.....so yeah, no way we beat the Ravens.

It's not as if our team was all healthy we couldn't beat the Ravens, because we probably could. Just rack this season up to another typical Texans season of bad luck and poor execution. But unless Indy finds a QB somewhere, we'll still be in the playoffs for years to come. LOL

After pouting all game and then the way he was falling apart crying with Dell… ABSOLUTELY! I’m off the Stroud bandwagon.
Lamar Jackson has been in the NFL since 2018. He is a two-time MVP. He is about to break and eventually shatter Michael Vick’s all-time QB rushing record (already has the single-season record for a QB). He is tied at the top with four games with a perfect passer rating. He has a 24-2 record as a starter against the NFC. It’s possible he wins a third MVP this year as well.

And yet, he still gets unwarranted and sometimes cruel criticism about his play. I say this as Stroud is a helluva QB, and anyone who wishes the Texans had a better QB is a fool. He quarterbacked a team that won a division title last year, and did it again. Franchise QB’s are not a dime a dozen and they don’t grow on trees. If I was a Texans fan, I’d be damned happy to call him my quarterback.

Absolutely not. This is why we're where we're at.

S2roud is good enough for us to build around & find an OC. Then, when this team has an identity we can find our QB.

Definitely no extension though.

It’s a little early to be saying no extension don’t you think. Yea this year hasn’t lived up to expectations, but I hardly think it warrants ending Stroud’s career as a Texan after his rookie contract.

Not going to happened and can we give CJ the same amount of time as Burrow. This is only his second season. Burrow coaching staff has had more experience than what we have right now with 2 years of HC for Meco and 2 years for Slowik.
