Next Head Coach

I guess if you keep saying the same thing over & over again, you'll be right sooner or later. Kinda like a broken clock.

You said the same thing last year... now the Jags have fired their coach.

As crappie as their teams are, they'll need to spend that ,only to catch up to us.

Jags had to pay ridiculous money to Malik Johnson and others last year just to meet minimums. They'll need some more big signings this next year.

But one year...

He also forgets you need to look at what ufa's teams will have to deal with out of that money to stay as good.

Texans top 2 are Wilfork and Dent.
Jax - Amakamura and Joeckel
TN - Warmack and Fasano
Indy - Mathis and Cole

And I keep being right, year after year after year after year and the Texans are still mediocre year after year after year after year.

Therein lies the Jags problem, you identified it, congrats. and the Titans could win the Div this year and the Colts are a couple of OL from returning as Div champs

FIFY

The colts are the Kardashians of the AFC South. Some look may look good but they are one big train wreck.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have asked and were granted permission by the NFL to speak to Coach Jimbo Fisher

(Jags may have figured out the knows how to win more football games than other head coaches philosophy.)

What does the number of Div championships and Super Bowls say?

That they really underperformed to have 21 division wins and only 2 super bowls. Several teams did better with less division wins and the same amount if not more SB wins.

If the past results really mattered we would still consider Miami with their 14 division wins and two Superbowls a threat and a model of a great organization. Same for SanFran.

Wrong again it says the AFC South is the worst division in professional football.

You can't possibly come to that conclusion with that information. C'mon you're better than that.

Thats like me eating chocolate and deriving that since its brown all things brown are good so let me eat this terd.

The conclusions that Peyton Manning was really good is better.

The AFC South is the absolute worst division in football with the exception of Peyton Manning. Better?

You were not right. You said with all that cap space the Jags would be at an advantage, sign players & be better than us. That has not happened. They have only won two games so far.

You say it's going to hurt us that we spent $98M on Brock & Miller, but you applaud Jacksonville for spending $90M on one player.

Your arguments comes across as "whatever the Texans do is wrong. Anything anyone else does (even if its the exact same thing) is better"

They did sign much better players they just didn't have a coach who knew how to win. Really knew how to lose and did it well. That simple. If they hire the right coach they will be much better right away because of the good players they have accumulated.

You say it's going to hurt us that we spent $98M on Brock & Miller, but you applaud Jacksonville for spending $90M on one player. The difference is the Jags are NOT handicapped by the salary cap by doing so. In fact the SC works in their favor. The Texans are.

Not always, I liked the Kubiak and Wade hirings. I've seen many owners like McNair, they involve themselves more than they should in football decisions and most of them turn out bad. History shows that they don't know what they are doing when it comes to football management. It's an ego thing mainly. I hate to say it but as long as McNair is the GM it is going to be more of the same.

Not so much as it is calling them as I see them, without blowing any smoke up your hiney or pouring you a glass of Texans Kool Aid or constantly watching thru rose colored glasses. In essence, I guess you could really say, it is the absence of an agenda.

Texans just need to draft better..
They sure do. They need a better play caller on offense too. Smith seems to be somewhat adept at negotiating contracts but he's awful at talent evaluation and I think O'brien is actually a very good head coach and we could do much worse, but I would really like to see him hire a coordinator with some game. Godsey just doesn't have it.

I actually think they do pretty well at drafting. Texans just suck at acquiring the one position that matters most... QB.
I think they miss far too often. Everybody misses in later rounds. Our squad seems to miss far too often in 2-3. They have done reasonably well in the first though. I'll give them that.

Look objectively at every other team in the NFL... they miss just as often in the 2-3 rounds. Also, since BOB has gotten here, we've been doing alot better.

McKinney - looks like a future pro-bowler at ILB
Strong - decent complimentary receiver
XSF - solid starting guard
Fiedo - looking like a very good TE
Nix - total bust; but this was a gamble I didn't mind. he had 1st round talent
Brax & Nick - jury still too early

It seems to me that most of the Texans draft picks, whether they're a 1st rounder or a 7th rounder, seem to struggle their 1st, and even 2nd years for some, in the league. Examples are Clowney, XSF, Fiedorowicz, Blue, etc... I realize some of this has to do with injuries (like Clowney) but I just wonder how much of it has to do with BOB's and RAC's complicated systems.

Remember Demeco & McKinney were 2nd round picks. so was Barwin & Reed, both still playing well in the NFL. I believe it is ultimately the GMs fault he couldn't find a way to keep them on our team, but they weren't busts. So I still count them as hits.

Brice McCain & Glover Quin are still playing in the league as well. We'll see Brice & his 10 PDs later today.

Ben Jones, Brandon Brooks still kicking it... well, before Brooks got hurt.

It's hard to see Rick Smith's hits when you listen to all the haters. with an avg QB I honestly believe we have a Super Bowl contender in Houston.

I kinda lost that belief a bit last year, until Denver won the Super Bowl with some of the worst QB play I've ever seen in a Super Bowl winner.

But watching those Broncos 2014, 2015, 2016... no doubt in my mind. This is a Super Bowl caliber roster.

If they actually tried drafting a QB.

The only QB's drafted in the Rick Smith era?

4th rd Tom Savage
7th rd Alex Brink
Didn't Smith draft a QB that we eventually traded to Dallas as well? Don't recall his name. It may have been Casserly though.

Or ... gets hit by a bus. Small bus like a VW bus. Nothing life threatening, but retirement necessary ...

Why dream small? Own it and dream big. Double-Decker London bus.

He's earned it.
A double-decker bus full of Wilfork clones that weighs a 100 tons and only stops for BBQ.

It's kinda messed up for y'all to wish him to get hit by a bus.
Think of the poor bus driver. Probably traumatize him, if he's not a Texans fan

Jags are different team and playing much better under Marrone....just saying.

BTW - Mariota went down just now, they're putting on an air cast and cart is coming out.
(He looks done for the year)

So free cap space isn't a good indicator of a teams performance the following year?

Good insight, I agree.
Money is always a difference maker if spent well. If you don't believe me let's you and me play a game of Monopoly I'll start the game with $75,000 and you get to start with $2500.

Well, let me start with $60K worth of properties first. These teams aren't starting from zero every year.

It doesn't matter Brian, it doesn't matter one bit that we play like crap Brian because we're are King of the Dung Pile two years in a row.

Hate to break the news to you, but O'Brien ain't going anywhere except a contract extension.

Yep,

This is what the McNair's are all about.

They certainly aren't about putting the best product as possible on the field

I think they are within their guidelines. It's those guidelines you disagree with. I don't think they intentionally suck, but they do. They are making the effort, however misguided they are

Isn't there a difference between them not being as good as we want them to be and sucking? I mean is a winning record 5 out of the last 6 years sucking? Is winning the division 4 out of the last 6 years sucking? I know it's not a championship, or even deep playoff runs, so I'm not saying it's the bees knees or anything, but do they really suck?

And if anyone wants to bring up inception to date and cumulative record, just make certain you're not telling Cowboy fans that ancient history doesn't matter every time they talk about winning rings.

Yeah I agree, I was just using the term suck because around here not being 12-4 and dominant is sucking. They are a better franchise than most over the past 5-6 years

Which is even more amazing when you consider that everyone who is now or has ever been on the coaching staff or in the front office are/were apparently complete morons.

Until they change those guidelines expect more mediocrity. 3 different regimes same results. The only way to change these guidelines are either thru death or hurting the teams bottom line.

I also dont think that everybody (Rick Smith/Cal McNair) put in the time necessary to put the best product on the field as possible.

I know you disagree with me on this.

I don't necessarily disagree with you on anything other than the guidelines have to change to have a championship team... and not really sure I want Cal McNair putting a lot of time into it. I want him to get into hookers and long beach vacations in Tahiti over the winters

Add in drugs and ridiculous twitter posts (prior to being banned), and that would turn us into the Colts!
