Houston
The way we hear it, the Texans are impressed with young WR coach Kyle Shanahan. A source close to the club says the team likes Shanahans work ethic, coaching ability and knack for relating to players. There is also a respect for Shanahans desire to make a name for himself in the coaching ranks. He is the son of Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan, and its well known that he would like to work for his father one day. For now, hes landed in an ideal spot, working under former Broncos offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, now Houstons head coach. It reflects well on Shanahan that WR Andre Johnson could be on his way to a career year in his first season in the Kubiak-influenced offense. League evaluators have come away impressed with Johnsons route-running and ability to read coverages. In short, hes become a complete receiver.

Jacksonville at Houston - Oct. 22, 2006 at 1:00 p.m.
The Jaguars seem to hold a considerable class edge on the Texans, a divisional foe that beat them 4-of-6 times from 2002-04. Since then, there has been no comparison between the teams. Jacksonville has become one of the AFCs most well-balanced teams, while Houston has dropped 18 of its last 21 games, including a pair to Jacksonville last season.
If the Texans are to have a chance, QB David Carr will likely have to carry the offense, given how feeble the Texans running game has been all season. Carr has had some fine games vs. Jacksonville in the past.
The Jaguars have always had trouble with speedy WR Andre Johnson, whos playing better than ever before. Johnson has 29 catches in his last three games.
Even if the Texans can move the ball vs. Jacksonville, the Houston defense is likely to have problems stopping the Jaguars attack. QB Byron Leftwich will work out of a shotgun formation and go to work on Houstons suspect secondary.
A heavy dose of RBs Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew should also be expected.
The Denver Post reports: Former longtime Bronco Dwayne Carswell is scheduled to work out for former Denver offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak in Houston today.

First Round Pick
Analysis: The Texans can not run worth anything. Ron Dayne may be the biggest Heisman busts of all time. Lundy has not been consistent and the line can get no push. I have said before that I agree with the Mario Williams pick last year, but they have to take Adrian Peterson this year if they have the chance. He can run between the tackles or turn the corner and take it to the house. He is also a good receiver out of the backfield. Adrian Peterson is better than Reggie Bush and would have been a top 10 pick last year as a sophomore but he was not eligible. He has all the tools to be a franchise back for many years in Houston.
