New to D/FW

Almost 2 months ago I moved up here to Dallas. Talk about a Change from the B/CS area. I got into UNT and am attending part time this semester.

I haven't really been able to get out and meet new people and saw a few people were from the DFW area here. What's good spots to go out to? City Attractions? I'd like to get out and meet some new people here.

Also if anyone has suggestions I've been having trouble finding a new job. I'm looking for something PT or FT with a flexible schedule. Thanks.

Welcome to town. I just came up here in August of '07 myself, so still finding the "spots". Came across a few Texan fans in the area and we met up at a central location for the game. That helped ease my loss of tailgating in Houston.

Hey guys, maybe hook up for a Rangers game or two? (or other "offseason sport"?)

GoldenS - what type of work are you looking for?

Well I am pretty sure I just got in at tom thumb here. Really have been trying to find something that will be flexible with school hours as i increase my class load.

I'm not opposed to a rangers game even though I'm a astros fan through and through. Maybe one of the astros and rangers game? Wouldn't minda hockey game...my girl promised me a stars game. :doot:

Yeah, we should try to meet up for one the of Rangers/Astros games.

Also we should start to plan for next football season, anybody found a new spot yet?

yep, I could do one the Astros/Rangers game...haven't look for a new location yet.

I have been in Dallas since 2004 and I have been hard pressed to find a spot where I am not the single Texan fan in the corner at the Sports Bar. I got rid of the Direct TV, so can't order the sports package next year. Let me know the hot spots for next years games.

I wouldn't mind meeting up for a Stars or Rangers game. Rangers/Astros would be ideal. I just went to Stars game last week. I even broke down and bought my first Dallas anything jersey.

Any of you post on the Chronicle? Anyone else think that RJ is bi-polar?

Thoughts on our draft?:texflag:

Welcome to the forum "lild" (now, that's funny). We got a little gathering last season, but grew tired of the chicken on a weekly basis. We currently in recon mode searching for an alternate base.

... and nope, don't post on the chronic. Wouldn't want to give their reporters any storylines.

<edit> - I tried Humperdinks for the 1st time with the idea of "possibly", but nah - wasn't diggin it.

All I am hoping for at this point is a starter at a position within the year with whomever we select at 18. My personal preference is a LT like Chris Williams out of Vandy. We've invested a lot in Schaub's future and I'd love to see us lock down both T positions. It'd be great if Eslinger is the guy at center or tap a guy later in the draft. Starting to think If I can't find any place good I'm just going to have to say screw it and backyard BBQ this fall for games.

I think Tackle or CB would be a wise investment in the first round. From what I have seen, the tackle out of Vandy may already be off the board. I would love a running back, but this is the Denver school of Running Backs. There are so many good RB's that we can get one later.

I saw in the Chron they were looking at Hadnot from the Miami Dolphins. He is a native Texan and a UH grad. He seems serviceable at the position. He can play center or guard.

I don't expect any splashes in free agency. For example an Alan Faneca or Asante Samuels. I expect a few quality players for possible starters or depth. Smith seems skilled at finding those type of guys on the wire.

Found an interesting place the other day guys.

Went there the other day to watch the mavs game with a friend. Nice bar off of 75.The Sky boxes seemed comfy and might be a nice option to keep away cowboy fans.

It looks really nice but the Richardson area might be too far of a drive for the people around Arlington.

I lived in the Richardson/Plano area and one my friends lived in Arlington.

Looks interesting, but that may be a drive for all - including us NEr's. But I don't mind the tool girls.

lol was wondering if iwas the only one to catch that. I'm in North Dallas off Audelia and 635. So it was really close to me.I'm quickly learning how spread out the Metro-plex area is really.

I don't have an issue doing a drive like that a couple of times, especially since there looks like some stuff to work with. But yeah, 16 weeks would make me spotty at best.

Ditto A-Tx. Maybe we come up with a few spots and preset them before the season starts (so we're not figuring out where to go the day before).

I'm with you Golden, I'm figuring out the span of this city myself...

I Like the idea. I know by then I'll be here a good amount of time but I think picking spots around the DFW area might not only be the fairest way to do it but might get some of us not familiar with the area out. AS well as looking at what the DFW complex has to offer sports and culturally wise.(minus the cowboy fans of course)

As of right now i am getting to know the Plano area, North Dallas, and i commute out to Denton for UNT. Perhaps i might volunteer to troll a cowboys board to find some cool places that would work with us on Texan games.

Lets see (off the top of my head):

Fox Sports Grill, is in the Plano/Frisco area - Tollway and Legacy

Bennigan's Sports Bar, is in the Addisson area - Tollway and Beltline

The afore mentioned Wizard's

Sporting News Grill is at Mockingbird at Love Field

Gator's, is in Hurst - 183 and 121

Several Buffalo Wild Wings, Wing Houses and such scattered about town. There are also several smaller sports bars scattered about town, the one's I know about are in my neck of the woods (Keller/Ft. Worth/TMS); but I'll probably be coming from work more often then not which puts me just at Texas Stadium.

I'm fairly sure the Texans play their pre-season game in the DFW this year...right?

Do you still have to buy a memebership card to drink everywhere in Richardson and Plano those dry area's SUCK!!!

I think the Valley Ranch area is a pretty good middle ground for the DFW alums. I am a Southie, down in Mansfield so making up to Plano every week might be rough. The option to move it around is good, if we can coordinate. I am always the lone Texans' fan in the bar surrounded by Steeler and Packer fans.

I still think we should meet up for the Astros/Rangers game this year.

Most areas don't have membership cards but you gotta have your ID swiped now. The dry areas kind of seem redundant. I drive all of 5 minutes from where i live to get beer and my girl captain Morgan.

Texaninlild I'm good with moving the site around like picking out six sites and rotating them out unless we get a pretty good group going and some bar offers us a good game day deal.At this point I'd probably see if i could order online or Ebay Texan items.

Time and finances permitting I'd love to see the Astros beat up on the Rangers :aggressive:

I am only a mile or so north of Mansfield, and in fact before this past year went to the No Frills Grill on Debbie and Matlock. There are a couple of other locally owned sports bars around our area we could add to the mis along some the obvious chains in Arlington.

I would prefer to find a locally owned sports bar in a good location. I know of a few in Keller and Southlake and such, but I know none of y'all want to face that hike just for a game.

I know there is a Champp's in Las Colinas, but I also know it's probaly the pricest of the sports bars I know of in DFW.

You might try finding a centrally located sports bar at lower "Greenville Avenue":hides: :sarcasm: Back in the day it was BRUTAL during Texas vs. OU weekend:hunter:we seriously ran into a group that pulled shot guns out of the trunk of their cars when we were leaving and started running the streets ....not to mention I was from Nebraska, I was 22 years old and was chicken and ran and hid :chicken: !!

Spent a small fortune watching a UFC fight at Champs. I would have saved a bunch of change just ordering it at home.

Any of you UFC (watching) or Golf (playing) fans? :wild: Or we could play UFC and watch golf, but that might not work out so well.

Go Rockets :fans:
