with all the draft talk lately i thought we could use a change in topic...like the new players the texans have on their roster...not sure if any of ya'll have checked out the roster put the texans have been busy signing some players to future contracts...the new players are:

Stevens, Larry LB 6-2 241 1 Michigan
Curtis, Kevin FS 6-2 210 2 Texas Tech
Floyd, Anthony SS 5-10 202 2 Louisville
Pierce, Terry LB 6-1 251 2 Kansas State
Estelle, Mark CB 5-10 180 1 Utah State
Harris, Elliott DE 6-3 285 1 Arkansas
Philpot, Neal TE 6-4 245 1 Pittsburg State
Epstein, Hayden K 6-1 206 1 Michigan

now i know a lot of these guys are not well known...but take a look at the linebackers...terry pierce who was a great college LB for kansas state...drafted by the broncos i believe in round 2...larry stevens looks more like a usual 4-3 LB than a 3-4 LB...elliott harris looks more like a typical 4-3 DE than the 3-4...and we have kevis curtis from my texas tech...i know he isn't well known so let me give ya'll a little info on the boy...was originally a 4th round pick for the 49ers...spent his first two seasons in IR like bennie joppru...random injuries during training camp...then went to Green bay and didn't make the depth chart with darren sharper and jue there...spent last season trying to make the raiders squad but with schweigert and others couldn't seem to find a spot...although personally i thought he was better than the guy backing up stewart...anyways...this guy is a true safty not like jammal lord...or jason simmons for that matter...he should be able to make this team with the lack of pure FS's...he's not a big time hitter like dwayne slay but he's more a of a ball hawk...the trick is you have let him warm up into the season...IE generally a slow starter but a picks up after 3-4 games...now he is a sure tackler just doesn't seem to get the big hits in...so there ya go...the new faces we'll see at training camp...if anyone as more info on the other guys please fill free to add

there are always some low key moves like this early in the offseason.. and they will continue throughout.. you will see players you have never heard of added to the roster constantly.

Even so..i imagine everything right now is fairly low key until the new coach is signed.

Mark Estelle signed with the Baltimore Ravens July, 2005, played the preseason and was waived. He was invited to workouts with the Jets and Texans. He has signed a 2 year contract with arena football Los Angeles Avengers in 2005. In college, Utah State, was named Defensive MVP.

Anthony Floyd played with Indianapolis in 2003 and 2004. He was on the practice squad as well as played about half of the games. He was a reserve DB and special teams until developed into SS at end of season.

Larry Stevens was drafted by Cincinnati in 2004. He was waived this year to make room for Nate Webster.

Hayden Epstein is a better punter/kickoff than field goals. He has a three step punting approach but gets the ball off quickly. He has poor snap to toe technique as a fieldgoal kicker. He was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2002, was there for 2 years and was with the Denver Broncos in 2004. Denver released him in Sept 2004. In May, 2004 he was allocated to the Berlin Thunder where he was the second among NFL Europe punters averaging 40 yards/attempt.

That is the best I can add at this moment without further surfing. The stats I'll leave to those who like to mess with them.

They are signing these players so they have them on the roster and other teams can't scoop them up. As soon as your season is over, you can sign more people and your roster is not limited to 53 players anymore, it increases to something like 90, so we (as most other teams are probably doing) are signing a bunch of these guys now so we have first dibs on them and they can come to training camps etc. and compete for roster spots for next season, so these guys aren't guaranteed anything from us other than being on thru camps and maybe some of the preseason, but it gives us more options at all of these positions, and I agree with the earlier post that since most of these guys are defensive players it looks like we'll be concentrating on offense in the draft.
