New guy w/ crazy idea.

Comanche

Practice Squad
OK. I'm new here but wanted to throw in an idea for possible new HC:

Ronnie Lott.

Yeah, he's my all-time favorite player (up there with Earl Campbell)

Sure, he's never coached before, but his experience and leadership as a player would make him an excellent candidate. If you remember the kind of warrior he was, you might agree with me.

He'd be crazy to accept the job, but I'd rather root for him than most of the names I have seen in the press lately.

Anyway, just an idea.

No coaching experience. I can't see it. IF we were going to do that, we better get him in here right now and see how well he can babysit this team for the last few games.

The team needs a coach with experience (college or pro's). Putting someone in with no experience, would be a disaster. I like the idea of Kubiak.

I agree, experience is a major issue. But there are a lot of coaches out there with tons of experience that I don't want to see anywhere near this team.

The position of Head Coach requires a guy who knows the game, and most of all knows PLAYERS. He needs to be someone they will respond to. A motivator, maybe. A leader, definitely. He needs to be someone they will play for. I don't think a Head Coach needs to have coached an X number of years on any level. Yes the OC and DC and the rest of the staff, definitely need years of coaching experience. But as Head Coach, maybe not, provided he can attract and manage the best staff.

I know its a crazy idea and I'm just a fan who would love to see my favorite player involved with my favorite team.

Ronnie Lott

All-American USC
USC Basketball
All-Pro at 3 positions. (Cornerback, Free Safety and Strong Safety)
4-time Super Bowl Champion
San Francisco 49ers
LA Raiders
New York Jets
Kansas City Chiefs
Pro Football Hall of Fame

On the short list of most-respected players in the league during his career.

Sure it would be a wild move, a risk even. But looking at it, I can't really get excited about any of the names out there right now. It looks just as "blah" as the Texans have played.

There are no other former players I would suggest to do something like this without experience. It was 40 years ago, but Bud Grant went straight to a head coaching job without previous experience (winning the Grey Cup in the CFL, then straight to the Vikings). He's in the Hall of Fame. The right kind of guy can do it and I think Ronnie Lott is the right kind of guy.

Allright, I'll leave it alone.

I could see bringing Lott in as a DB coach if he wanted to try coaching out but I can't see us bringing someone with no coaching experience at any level to be our HC, although I too liked Lott a lot when he played.

Hmmm.... Is Ronnie Lott now posting on the Texans message boards? Or is this his uncle or nephew?
