New 7 Round Mock

Here is the link to our first seven-round projection of the year: http://www.nflroughdraft.com/node/81

I just glanced through it. Looks pretty good.

Reiterating for the Texans Only (which is really what we're interested in here):

11 - Justin Houston, OLB
42 - Jerrell Powe, NT
73 - Titus Young, WR
104 - Robert Sands, S
135 - Mark Herlich, ILB
173 - Justin Rogers, CB
204 - Derek Hall, OT

I wouldn't mind this draft too much. But, just some pickiness:

1st round - I'd expect us to go Quinn over Houston. But it's almost a coin toss depending on what the FO prefers.

2nd round - Love the pick.

3rd round - I'd expect us to go Deunta Williams if it fell this way. Although I'm not going to be too surprised if we do go WR at some point early in this draft.

4th round and on - This is all good from this point on, I mean, it's all about the individual board from that point. BUT. You've got Tandon Doss dropping a lot further than I'd expect.

Except it starts with a CB at #1 which ain't happening. Heck when was the last time that did happen? Certainly not in the last 40 years.

There's always a first time and the guy is the most talented player in the draft this year. I've got no problem with a CB going first even if it's never been done before. I mean, there's no problem with this guy going 2nd or 3rd, right? So why not 1st.

Sure theoretically it could happen and there is nothing wrong with it happening but think of all the Champ Bailey, Charles Woodson, etc. that have come out. Is he a better prospect than them? Don't think so. Heck the Redskins traded back and got Bailey. I just don't think it is likely.

Carolina will not take Peterson #1. No way.

They will either take interior DL, or a QB

Most of the other mocks I've looked at don't have Justin Houston going higher then 28 to 30 and this one has him at 11. That sounds like a solid Texans pick to me.

Really? I think this is my 3rd one seein him at 11 (although to be fair, 1 mentioned trying to trade back) I would honestly prefer Houston over Quinn anyway. I think Quinn would be better in a 43 defense, and Houston would be better in 34 stiffness in coverage be damned.

Here is some feedback for you.

1st round - Excellent choice. A player who has starred in the 3-4 would be perfect for us. He plays the run, can cover, and is a terror in the backfield. Great choice!

2nd round - As great as your first pick was, I really don't like this one. In a traditional 3-4, this would be a great choice. However, Phillips does not run a traditional 3-4, he runs a 1 gap. This year Powe was lined up as a one gap, gap shooting NT and he looked terrible. He is not the kind of tackle Phillips wants. I'd grab Jonathan Baldwin, the Pitt WR. With a mentor like Andre Johnson, the sky is the limit for him.

3rd round - Since I already upgraded WR, I would now take Davon House, CB from New Mexico State.

4th round- I don't have a problem with the pick, but if John Moffit is here, i'd take him. I actually had him in the third, but that is fine.

5th round-I like the idea of a ILB, but for me, Cedric Thornton, DT, Southern Arkansas is the kind of NT Wade likes. He is a one gap player who is strong enough to take on a double team, can play the run, get his hands, up, and put pressure on the QB. He is a developmental project for Wade.

6th round- Here I have to go with my super unsecret (since I have been putting him in the sixth round of practically every mock I do) pick: OLB Steven Friday.

7th round-Great pick! I love to see project OL.

Overall solid. Outside of the Powe selection, I think all the players you chose could be drafted by the team. Nice!

Carolina's in a tough position.

If they go to a 3-4 then Fairley isn't a good fit.

There is no clear consensus #1 this year.

They should fill out about 4 draft cards and pull a Minnesota. Then they could let Denver, Buffalo, and CIncy make their picks. They could then take the 4th player and then pay him the #4 salary!!!

i think i would be mad if we pass up on robert quinn

but the texans always pass up on a great player for someone who did good at the combine so it wouldnt surprise me. although idk if justin houston did good or not at the combine.
