ndevine7 mock draft

Ndevine7

Rookie
11- Julio Jones 6'3 200 WR Alabama
With no dominate front 7 defensive players left on the board I believe the Texans will go with the bpa and the safest pick with Julio Jones. The one concern with Julio has been his hands. He played well down the stretch have big games against SEC teams like Auburn, UT and LSU. Big target that is very athletic. Played hurt for part of the season shows his toughness like AJ. Would sure up the Texans WR core with AJ and JJ(not jacoby) and he can learn from the best WR in the NFL.

42-Quinton Carter 6'1 200 S Oklahoma
Texans haven't had a true great safety yet and it is a need seeing that Wilson and co. failed there last season. Carter has good size and would give support for our corners over the top. Had a good season recording 96 tackles and 4 int. Would be a huge improvement for the secondary.

73-Brooks Reed 6'3 257 OLB/DE Arizona
Brooks Reed might go a bit earlier but I feel he should be here at 73. Brooks Reed had a terrific senior bowl and hustles. Had a good season at Arizona. Has a good bull rush and would provide pressure on the quarterback from the edge.

104-Sione Fua 6'2 306 NT Stanford
As of right now the NT position is weak with Okoye and Mitchell. If neither pans out Fua could be the starter. Has good size and a high motor. Played well his senior year at stanford. Has the right attributes for a 1 technique defense and could be a good player.

135- Jeron Johnson 5'10 211 SS Boise State
Had a good career at Boise State. Has a high football IQ and can help with run support. Better in coverage than Pollard and could be the starter in week 1. Not explosive but makes that up with his smartness and angles.

172-Jalil Brown 6'0 202 CB Colorado
With Smith on the other side Brown saw a lot of action and had a good season. Has good size and speed with quick feet. Not afraid to help in run support, but has gotten burned by this occasionally. Could be a very useful corner in the nickel or dime and would be a steal at this point.

202-Justin Boren 6-3 315 OG Ohio State
A big body that the coaching staff can groom and be an insurance factor in case of an injury.

Love your first two picks, which pretty much assures it wont happen.

I think you should have trusted your gut on Reed though, I dont think he lasts this far. Even if he does, I worry as he really exploded at the Senior Bowl after having a 4th/5th round type of career.

Fua is iffy here. I dont know if he lasts this long(?), other than that I cant say much about him. NT is a need though.

Continuing with your trend, I think you are grabbing guys who will be picked just a smidge earlier. Johnson is a hot name, with great size and speed for the position. I actually would not be surprised if he makes it into the 3rd. However, if available, great pick.

6/7- this late, just address position of need. Nice job identifying those positions.

I would like this draft, and Smithiak's probably wont be this good.

I really like picks 2-7 but think that Jones is a luxury pick that we can't afford this year. I have my doubts that Fua will last til the 4th round or that Johnson will last til the 5th round, both will most likely go 1 round earlier.

Great draft, except I don't think most of them will last that long!

Jones is too safe of a pick at 11.

Carter probably won't slip. I think he will have a combine that won't let him slip.

Reed had about as much impact for the Arizona defense as Mitchell had when they played together. I had not seen him hardly this year, but the production is still there. He played well in the Sr. Bowl (that one I watched.)

I haven't look closely enough at Fua, but his play at the Sr Bowl was quite better than a 4th rounder.

Johnson is too solid to last until our pick in the 5th

Brown, I think can be moved to safety.
I don't know; sometimes I like him, and then sometimes I just don't want him.

Boren, I haven't paid any attention to him, so I have no idea.

Love your mock

If I had to give up rds 4,5 and 6th rd picks to move up and make sure they get a talented NT in the 3rd like Fua/Ellis or Powe. One of those guys should be available.

5/6th rd picks generally dont make an impact on a team. See Holiday/Smith Especially with Rick/Gary running the draft.
