My Texans 7-round Mock

Waterboy
Rd. 1 - QB Vince Young (UT) http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/qb/vinceyoung.html
Rd. 1 - TE Leonard Pope (UGA) http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/te/leonardpope.html
Rd. 2 - C Greg Eslinger (Minn) http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/c/gregeslinger.html
Rd. 4 - OG Mark Setterstrom (Minn) http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/og/marksetterstrom.html
Rd. 5 - RB Cedric Humes (VT) http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/rb/cedrichumes.html
Rd. 6 - OLB Frostee Rucker (USC) http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/de/frosteerucker.html
Rd. 7 - WR Brad Smith (Missouri) http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/qb/bradsmith.html

TRADES:
Traded our two third round picks for a late 1st round pick to select TE Leonard Pope.

NOTES:
- Finally get an every down multi-dimensional TE for the first time in franchise history.
- Elsinger and Setterstrom are classic zone-blocking interior linemen.
- Cedric Humes is a Mike Anderson clone

I really don't like this draft at all. I don't like the Texans drafting Vince Young, but I'll leave it at that. I really don't like taking a TE that early, especially after trading two picks to get him, and I don't know if Setterstrom will last until the 4th round, and only bringing in those two still leaves a gaping hole at RT. I don't know why we'd spend another pick on a RB and ignore our defensive problems again, a 6th round LB is hardly addressing the many problems we have on defense.

IMO if we did trade back into the first round for a TE it would have to be Vernon Davis. Nobody other TE is worth it.

just thinking:rolleyes: we have to start winning game at the line on both sides of the ball resign rivers and get more o or d line help we got to improve at running and stopping the run...our stats say we run pretty well but not when the game matters we don't have to be way behind and our d sucks at stopping the run...smith is one de we need another we have payne, johnson at dt get them some depth that is quality and another good de and the lb group will improve:yahoo:

Did you watch the playoff games this weekend? Did you notice how big the TE's were in those games? Heath Miller (1st rd. pick) and Dallas Clark (1st rd. draft pick) were big factors in the Steelers - Colts matchup. In the Bears - Panthers game Desmond Clark had the Bears only recieving TD, Mangum also had a TD for the Panthers. In the Redskins game Robert Royal caught a TD, and Chris Cooley accounted for 67 yards. The only playoff game where TEs weren't a factor was the Broncos - Patriots game. The point is, TEs matter, and we don't have one right now.

and I don't know if Setterstrom will last until the 4th round, and only bringing in those two still leaves a gaping hole at RT.

Admittedly, he might not. But its a mock draft, theres some risk involved. There is a reasonably good chance he will be available for the 1st pick in the 4th round. Todd Wade makes a ridiculous amount of money, and it's not likely we'll cut him since it would cost us even more. So we are stuck with Wade at RT it appears.

don't know why we'd spend another pick on a RB and ignore our defensive problems again, a 6th round LB is hardly addressing the many problems we have on defense.

Jonathan Wells is a free agent, Tony Hollings is a scrub and has already gotten into trouble this offseason. There is very good chance that the only RBs currently on the roster that'll be on the team next year are Dom Davis and Vernand Morency. Kubiak is our new head coach, he loves to run the ball, and he loves to split the carries, I hardly think drafting a RB in the 5th round is out of line.

And yes, defense was not addressed at all in my Texans' Mock, but we have so many holes you can't expect to address them all in one draft.

your high if you think were adding another RB, any OT is worth more than a C when your OL is our OL, after the combin Brad will jump into the mid rounds we won't be able to get him with a 7th. I don't no if you could really get a 1st with two 3rd rounders, maybe a 2nd but in a draft this deep why would you even wanna lose a pick?

I can't believe people are bitching about using a FIFTH ROUND pick on a RB, especially considering our new HC is famous for running the ball and using multiple backs to do so.

Chester Pitts looks like he could be a solid LT in this league, I think we stick with him there, and unfortunately Todd Wade is locked up at RT as I said in my last response. The center position in the Denver Bronco offensive scheme is very important, they use the center to pull a lot.

no team will trade a 1st rounder for 2 3rds

and you are crazy if you think the texans are taking vince. they are waiting until the season is completely over and then they will announce that they are taking reggie bush

Highly unlikely that would work. The draft value chart puts you around the 5th-6th pick in the 2nd round. Since this appears to be a fairly deep draft, however, you might be able to get a few picks higher. I personally think we keep both of our 3rd's though. We need the talent.
