My take on the game.

This is the first game that I could come on to the board the day after without letting a few days go by to settle me down.

For the most part, this was the team that I missed. Effort was being given, and an attitude of 'we came to win' was on display. I can't really say that the team played horrible and that our coaching sucked because that was just not the case this week.

Our defense did a great job of stopping the Jags for most of the game and I thought they made the play they needed to before I saw the yellow hankee. The only problem was the inconsistency in our coverage. I will no longer say anything about Gary Walker because since his return, we have been a different defense. Polk and Orr are becoming pretty good. Orr can chase down a play.

Offense was decent. This was the first game I saw where Carr picked apart a defensive unit. To me this goes to show what he could've been doing long ago if ever had the time before. I liked seeing Johnson back in his old role again. I would've liked to see some more Armstrong and Gaffney and I think this team could've benefited with Mathis out there but injuries are a part of the game. Bradford made somethings happen but his inconsistency was displayed yet again and he needs to not return next year.

I think this game demonstrated the real problem with our line. Our need for a better center is very appearant. Mckinney is a far better RG that allows Pitts who is a far better LT to play where he is needed. That being said, I noticed that when we had a real center (Drew Hodgdon) in the game this teams pass protection was pretty darn good. Hodgdon was doing a very good job on two of the leagues premiere DT. I will even say that Drew Hodgdon was a heck of a find in the draft. Since he took over the position Carr has had a pocket to actually step up and make a throw. As soon as he went down with injury, Carr starts getting sacked again. Again, though, inconsistency from the skill players was a major part of this game. Dropped passes, overthrows, fumbles. However, you have to admit they actually looked like they belonged in the league this week.

ST, not much to say there except WE MISS MATHIS.
 
Hodge did very well and has pretty good technique. He's not an overly big guy but knows how to seal blocks. For the second straight game I same him take a step up and turn right to block the whole side of the line and seal a gap. It was fundamental but it works well.

I think if yesterday's team had been playing the first six games, we'd have more wins. Even though they lost, the team still showed heart and had fire.

I won't take anything away from Walker. I specifically watched him when our defense was on the field, and he is definitely the force to be reckoned with on our defense. He was either double-teamed or had a lot of plays run away from him. He seemed to have pretty good penetration, as well. I think he's one of our best players. Hopefully he can stay healthy.

Our coverage stinks, though. It seems that we are stuck in a cover 2 zone for most plays. Like the coaches don't trust D.Rob or P.Buch to make man coverage work. Maybe they're right, but giving away those 10 yard passes all the time is aggravating! Mix it up!

I agree about Orr and Polk. Orr just seems like a magnet to the ball. But overall, our LBs need to get more pressure, or maybe the plays need to utilize different blitz packages. They just seemed to get manhandled out there, and in a 3-4, you've got to get someone that breaks loose more often.

Offense was a little more consistent than previous games this year. I like Morency out of the backfield, but his hands are rocks. Wells is a bruiser and had some good plays.

WRs...what can we say. AJ is the man, and once we have a viable no. 2/3 combo to take some pressure off of him, he'll be one of the elites. Bradford was having a decent game, but just let the big one slip through his hands.

DC had some good plays, too. But he's either rolling out of the pocket, or the play is a bootleg and the o-line is being pushed back too far. A couple of sacks probalby could have been avoided, IMO.

I agree, running a 3-4 cover 2 is one of the dumbest things I've seen in coaching.

Good post Tejano. You have captured my feelings about the game.
 
The only thing that I would add is that it looks like Coleman is just mailing it in. He does not look good I think that if we had another Saftey we would have won that game.
 
I pointed this out last week, but it seems more and more that Pendry has just broken down this offense and is slowing building it up. We are installing different plays each week. Building their confidence in plays by running them a few times during a game. After about week 16 we should have a whole half a playbook to work with. :yahoo:
 
This is the team I thought I was going to see in the first game at Buffalo.
Is it me or is Carr gettimg more efficient?

We actually blocked pretty well when we went to a spread offense yesterday. I was a bit shocked when we busted out the run and shoot look.
 
Yes we did block well, and that is another point for our play in the second half. We did a lot of patching due to injuries in the 2nd half and that had a direct impact on our play.

wasnt that what we kept hearing about palmers playbook. i think it was this year when they said the whole playbook was finally installed.

From what we saw in the offseason and preseason games I really didnt see much of a difference. If that is all we got out of Palmer then we made the right decision. It still doesn't do anything for our personnel issues.
