My last wish list

Kaiser Toro

Native Mod
Since I am heading out to Big Bend tomorrow through Sunday I will miss the draft and wanted to have my last wish list before the draft published to measure myself.

1 - Rey Maualuga - LB USC
2 - Max Unger - C/OG Oregon
3 - Rashad Jennings - RB Liberty
4 - Darcel McBath - FS Texas Tech
4a - Roy Miller - DT Texas
5 - Henry Melton - DE Texas
6 - Tyronne Green - OG Auburn
7 - Quan Cosby - WR Texas

Plenty of familiar faces I have been including in my wish lists, mocks and commentary. There are many different ways our draft could go, but I like the fact that we have options this year due to the development of our team.

I love it with the exception of Maualuga.

I cannot get behind that. I think he will be a bust in the pros unless he gets to play ILB in a 34 where his weakness in pass coverage is hidden.

In a 43 he is toast.

Yeah, Maualuga is one of those guys that gives us something others do not, attitude and how to apply it. Out of all the guys on defense in the draft I think he makes us a better defensive team immediately. We need contagion.

I love his attitude on the field. I would love it on this team. Our defense needs some swagger.

But it's hard to be the catalyst when all your teammates are looking at you every time we give up a third down completion.

The only way I'm okay with draft Rey is if he comes off the field in passing situations. But why draft that at #15 when we can get it in the fourth round?

I don't like Maualuga in the 1st either but there are ways to make him workout for us. I don't like the fact that you don't offer any help for our pitiful secondary other than a 4th round backup FS. The Texans secondary was the weakest part of the team last year and needs to be addressed more. I also don't think Tyronne Green will fall to the 6th round.

I have heard this, but just have not seen it as much on the tape that I have seen. Sure projections at the next level are appropriate, but I think he embodies the definition of a football player on Sunday and am certain he will figure it out whatever deficiency that he is projected to have.

I have beaten that drum for years, but to no avail. I would not be pissed if we grabbed Jenkins or reached on Butler, but I want attitude in the middle of the defense in order to anchor Bush's new get up the field defense.

Like everyone else, the only pick I am skeptical on is the Maualuga one.

If it goes that way, are you just expecting to move DeMeco to OLB?

I am not sold on Ryans being with us and would not be surprised if a mid tender were placed on him next year. I think our lack of DT contribution and his style have taken its toll on him. However, he is a football player, knows how to play the OLB position, and on the rare occasion he has been called to blitz he got results. With RM and DR out there we have some potential coverage liabilities, but their tackling prowess, intelligence and contagious attitude will make up for any liabilities in my opinion.

I often get caught up in intangibles that can be the connective tissue of a team, and admittedly I am guilty of that when I watch Maualuga as I would like to see him in a Texans uniform.

I'd be giddy if our 2nd day ended up like yours. Very nice

The first day, I think we're screwed if we're unable to trade back. Unless somebody falls there will not be anything there worthy of the 15th.

I'd like to see a trade back in the first and grab Butler or maybe even Lauranitis. I wouldn't be upset with your second pick, but I'd like to stay on the defensive side of the ball. Maybe the speedy DE or an OLB if it wasn't our 1st round choice.

My .02

I would not have a problem if we wound up going either direction.

For argument's sake, here is my wish list KT. Feel free to endorse it or tear it apart.

4 - Trevor Canfield - OG, Cincinnati
4 - Brandon Williams - DE, Texas Tech
5 - John Phillips - TE, Virginia
6 - DeAndre Levy - OLB, Wisconsin
7 - Greg Isdaner - OG, West Virginia

Nice! Although, I'd like to mix and match your two scenerio's.

Here's a question for you. If we do not pick an SLB in the 1st, I think we might be gunning for one in rounds 2 and 3. Who would it be? Maybe Cody Brown in the 2nd? Or Tyrone McKenzie in the 3rd?

I like these two picks. Milton, as a converted RB, should have better burst and agility than most DE's Miller is a space eater type, who is a little more athletic than most fat ******** are. Like the rest, Rey worries me.

I expect that not all of the guys I want will be available so a mix and match of those players is a very likely outcome.

If we want McKenzie then we will probably have to pull the trigger in the second round.

In the third, we could choose between Brown, Marcus Freeman, and Zach Follett.

Any of those guys would be fine I think.

Could someone who watched most of UTs games the last few years tell me who was the better DT while in college; Okam or Miller? I honestly haven't watched enough UT games to know and was curious.

Roy Miller was better at UT than Frank Okam at UT. Nothing against Frank but Roy just out performed him.

Ill take Rey Rey in the first round no sweat he is great value at 15, but kiss Ryan's goodbye. I don't pay 2 players to play one position. Ryan's will net us something in return and we can build our team up with that. Sorry Ryan's but this is a business.

Wrap that list up and mail it to Kubiak. You have done the work for him. I love the idea of getting Unger in the 2nd, Jennings in the 3rd, Cosby in the 7th.

As Super Mario said, Okam was a good college player, but Miller was better.

I would even say that Miller was better as a junior than Okam was as a senior.

Okam was a sophmore in 05,and ppl saw him as a top 5 draft pick if he stayed till he was a senior, but for some odd reason he never reached the potential he had while he was a sophmore,it'd be the equilavent of Ladainian Tomlinson scoring 35 TD's in 07,and then in 08 scoring 4,frank okam was a let down,Roy Miller is better.

I was up on Mauluagaula for a minute a month or so ago. I think he's a MLB/ILB and we've got that already. He'll be decent for somebody, I just don't think it's us.

Nice 2-7

Thats how I feel. If they take him, you try and move Meco for a late 1st or a player for player deal. Sucks, but thats the way it would have to be.

My wish would be for the Texans to trade down and get at least a 3rd. Then I would hope for:

1 - James Laurinaitis, LB: Could play all three spots, highly productive, top intangibles
2 - William Moore, SS: Isn't a reach to say if he plays near '07 level, he will take Barber's spot out of camp
3a - Shonn Greene, Rashad Jennings, or Andre Brown, RB: Compliment to Slaton, Jennings and Brown can catch out of the backfield
3b - Sherrod Martin, CB/S: Could be in the mix at nickel and backup FS
4a - Henry Melton, DE: Could get into the pass rush rotation, has upside
4b - Trevor Canfield, G: Plays with a mean streak, interior OL depth
