My Ideal Draft

Texian

Hall of Fame
Would involve trading back and trading up. First option would be to trade back with Green Bay and give them our #8 for their #16 & #47. The second option would a trade back with Buffalo and give them our #8 for their #12 & #74.

With the the 12th or 16th pick take Charles Johnson.

Next we package our #39 and #73 to move up to #25 (NY JETS) and take Patrick Willis in the 1st RD.

With option 1 we still have the 47th pick in RD 2 and we take Griffin, Meriweather or Staley. We wouldn't have a 3rd RD pick.

With option 2 we wouldn't have a 2nd pick but we would have pick #74 in the 3rd RD.

Johnson, Willis and Griffin (Meriweather or Staley) would be a pretty stout draft and go along way to solidifying the defense (option 1).

I like trading back. I don't like taking another tweener who is most likely a 3-4 OLB. I don't like moving back up into the first and giving away picks. I think we can get LB in the 2nd-5th with little drop off in talent. I don't like Griffin who is a SS, or Staley who makes Seth Wand look like Pace.

Willis is not a tweener he would line up very well as the SLB. Willis is 6'1" and 240 w/ excellent speed. Nolan thought he was better than Demeco and he thought Demeco was the best he had coached at the Senior Bowl. Here is what Zierlein had to say w/ video

Patrick Willis, MLB, Ole Miss
Nobody seems to be getting too excited about any of the linebackers in this draft, but Patrick Willis of Ole Miss is one of the most productive players in the SEC over the last couple of years. Not only can he tackle, but he plays with very good football speed. And he showed his ability at the Senior Bowl as well.

There is a better chance that Charles johnson falls to the 25th pick than Patrick Willis. IMO you would need to flip the picks around to get this draft to work.

I wasn't referencing Willis as a tweener. I meant Johnson. Willis is a great player, but there are plenty of other LB's with close to same talent available later.

I would like us to trade our #8 pick down a few spots...if we get a good offer.

I would only like to trade up if it was back into the latter half of the 1st rd. If for some reason Patrick Willis fell all the way down...i've seen one with him going to Indy with the 31/32nd pick. i would love to get him then.

I'd like to get Landry with the trade down and Willis trading back up. That would be sweet.

Johnson is not a tweener either he 6'2" 270, 4.7 with a burst of a 1st step. He is to big to play up a 3-4 and to small to play down in a 3-4. He is just right to be a every down DE in the 4-3. Here what John Harris of College Football News has to say about him:

Also my scenario of a tradeback and tradeupup does not cost any picks it is either two 1s and a 2nd or two 1s and a 3rd. Over 3 RDs you will get 3 picks plus have all your other picks.

I don't believe he is 270. I think 245-255 is correct and I've heard him being talked about as a 3-4 OLB in a few circles I'm in.

I wouldn't mind it. The more I think about it, Willis would be an amazing addition to our LB core. Him and Ryans would be an amazing tandem both being great playmakers. I don't mind the idea of taking a DE early either, but if nobody is a good value at the pick, I'd rather use it on secondary and then taking someone like Tim Crowder in the 2nd.
