I have been agonizing over my next presentation of what I think Texans should do. We now know what underclassmen are out and free agency is the next step to clarify what we might do in draft in April. Unlike most, I see Texans doing little in FA other than their own. I believe Pollard, OD, Demeco and probably Walter will be re-signed one way or the other. Pitts and Dunta are the most interesting possibilities on our roster as could effect the draft. If Pitts is healthy, I'd like him back at reasonable $. DR:bye bye but Kubes verbally supports his season. Walter did not have that great of a year but I can't get a fix on him. He's a Kubiac guy & probably depends on what offers he gets. Matt Turk. Another ? as he did very well & is older than all but Zgonnia and Moses.I think he re-signs. I think we re-sign all remaining but Grossman and Zgonnia who was cut before returning. This uncapped off season should work in our favor.

I would go strong after Richard Seymour who can play DE or DT. I don't think a move or Hampton will occur.

Round 1 #20 Toby Gerhart RB 6'1" 235 4.55 will do well @ combine & will be gone by our 2nd round. Dwyer, Spiller gone by #20 & so so on Matthews. Gerhart meets our need as a powerback and has good speed and burst. 1871 yards, 5.5 avg 27 TDs. Bowl game 135 yards 38 attempts 2 TDs with QB Luck out. Other than FS Thomas I'm not interested any other player available. There is no guarantee he will be there in 2nd so I get him now. No other avail RB comes close. He will avg 20 attempts with Slaton & Foster.
Round 2. Jon Asamoah LG Illinois 6'4" 315 5.08 ZBS
Round 3. Kyle Wilson CB Boise 5'10" 186 4.42 third best CB after Haden & Cox
Round 4. Akwasi Owusu-Ansah FS/CB/KR 6'1"205 4.48 climbing so if gone:
Robert Johnson FS Utah 6'2" 200 4.5 2008:4INTs 2009 6INTs
Round 5. Thomas Austin OG/C/T Clemson 6'3" 315 my eventual Myers replacement. Plays all O spots well. Good feet, balance & power.
Round 5 B Joe Pawelek ILB/OLB/FB Baylor 6'2" 240 2008: 128 T, 6INTs
2009: goofed off with 109 T, 1 INT 2.5 QB sacks.
Round 6. Joique Bell RB Wayne State 5'11" 225lbs 4.54 Division 2 named best over all player 2009. 2,084 yds 29 TDs 6.9 avg My "Jacoby Jones" pick. Beats out Moats or Foster.
Round 7. Best kicker available

Gerhart fandom is approaching VY status.

Nah, Gerhart will actually be a good pro.

badboy: Nice mock!
1) Gerhart I have no problem with here. Now, you will most likely catch a ton of flak for the pick, but who cares yeah? When he tears it up at the combine, people will come around.

2) Asamoah is a good one here. Together with Gerhart the Texans running game just got alot better. Asamoah is a good fit for the ZBS, for those who dont know.

3) I like the Wilson pick. Athletic returner with high upside. He would spend next season as the nickel corner.

4) Here we have to disagree, as you know. I just think he rises to the second round. Corners of his size and athleticism are rare. Johnson's body structure is somewhat frightening. He has skinny legs.

5) Austin is a good value pick here. Depth across the line.

6) Pawelek, good depth player. Angerer if available would be my first choice, but I could get behind this pick.

6) I think you underestimate Bell as well. He is a dominant player who had a down year, I have him as a solid fourth. Lonyae Miller from Fresno State would be my late round power back. Although, we might be a little full with Gerhart, Slaton and Foster. Eh.

7) Damn straight. Or a red zone threat.

Instead of fixating on a big name not going to happen guy like Seymour why not look at more Texans like improvements akin to Smith v. Haynesworth? - guys like Johnny Jolly, Aubrayo Franklin, Ryan Pickett or Tony Brown.

would love to pull the rug out from under the Titans & take away a key cog, not that Tony Brown is a rug.

I understand your picks, it's pretty clear Gerhart, Asamoah, Wilson, Owusu-Ansah/Robert Johnson, Austin R your guy's. Think we can fit a couple in there for the Texans one way or another :ahhaha:

1. Gerhart, way to early to be drafting this guy who will most likely go in the very late 2nd or very early 3rd round at the earliest.
2. Asamoah, very good pick, perfect for our ZBS.
3. Wilson, also a very good pick, he's not great but he's got raw skills and lots of potential.
4. AO-A, I don't know anything about him but I've heard good things, I think Robert Johnson will be gone by this pick, most likely in the 3rd round.
5. Austin, also a very good pick if he's still available.
5. Pawelek, I don't know anything about this guy but I don't see the need for a LB'r.
6. Bell, don't know anything about this guy either but added competition can't hurt.
7. Good choice, training camp competition.

FYI, we have two 6th round picks for now, I don't think we'll find out if TJ's trade pick will be a 5th or not til draft day.

From LZ Blog -
Lance - do you have any idea how the Travis Johnson trade shook out? Are we getting a fifth or a sixth?

I believe it is going to end up being a 5th since he had a decent amount of snaps for the Chargers this year. He had to play in 30 percent of their plays to get to a fifth round pick this year.

Pretty much what he said

Except I'm not that high on Austin.

Newhouse or Ulatoski would be my pick in the 5th rd.

Bell keeps rising & will probably explode at combine and end up selected much higher as you state. I know there is a list floating around MB somewhere about combine invites, but I do not remember seeing him listed. Can anyone confirm?

Not sure how mentioning a free agent that I think would do well on Texans is fixating, but then again you are known for over stating sometimes. Why are you so sure that Seymour will "not happen"? As I remember, many were shocked that Davis gave a 2011 first round for him in the first place.

Oh.. so you know exactly who they are picking? Will you go with me to Las Vegas sometime and I can then get rich? WAHAHAH!

I made the two 5ths based on Zerline's info that I was aware of. If it is two 6ths, I'll slide Pawelek down.

Interesting, I think you are the first person with that opinion. My only concern is he may go higher. Mel Kiper and said he rated Austin as the best center coming out. I believe this was said prior to last season but could be wrong. Austin was a guard who was moved to center by coach to move another player into the guard. Coach wanted "best over all line he could get."

It's the 25th time you've mentioned him - that's fixating. Not mentioning other more reasonable alternatives is fixating. I'm so sure Seymour wont happen because Seymour is going to want a big contract, will be 31 years old next season, would best be suited to take Smith's DE spot and while Smith can play pass play DT he is not best suited for every down DT and we didn't go after a far more dominant player in Haynesworth last year.

This and the fact the Texans dont spend $ on top tier FA's.

They should put some of the $ that they make raising ticket prices into a top tier OL/DL. But it isn't going to happen.

This and the fact the Texans dont spend $ on top tier FA's.

And rarely should they IMO. Most of the time the "ultimate" FA may play well for his new team but at three times the cost for only 5% more performance. Often you're better off getting the Porsche GT3 for $112k instead of the Lambo for minimal if any better performance for $250k.

So I am not allowed to think Texans will offer him a big contract in an uncapped year, believe that 31 is not too old for this particular player and that Smith could not rotate at DT; but you are allowed to have your opinion? Gee, Icak, did not know it was your world. To me Seymour is the standout option with skills to do what I think is needed. You think others are more reasonable options. Isn't that llike an opinion? Sort of like my "reasonable" is my opinion? Why am I obligated to mention alternatives that I do not want? I read and consider other posters opionions that differ from mine. Seymour would not rate the contract Hainesworth request & got. You remind me of the guys who said no way Charles Barkley, McGrady or Ron Artest would play for Rockets; yet they did.

One thing I am fixating on is how you think your opinion is any more valuable or acceptable than mine or other posters.

You're being dramatic.

Seymour simply doesn't make sense for the Texans. You like him because he has a big name, but the fact that we just gave a high dollar contract to a younger, similar player makes Seymour all but irrelevent to us.

What is with all the name calling? Can't you two discuss a topic without the verbal attacks? How do you support saying I like Seymour because he is a big name? I did not want Hainesworth or Terrell Owens. http://www.nfl.com/players/richardseymour/profile?id=SEY682400

5 x pro bowl, 4 x all pro, 3 superbowl and should have 2-3 very good years left. You must be refering to physical size when you say similar player because talent wise, we have no player on defense that is similar.
