My 2011 Fantasy Draft Team

Dutchrudder

Hall of Fame
Well, I did my first Fantasy draft of the year last night, and WOW, I'm really happy with it. It is a 1PPR league and I got the 11th pick. I can't believe so many people passed on Ray Rice in the first that he would drop to me, but I'll take it! Michael Turner in the 3rd was a nice bonus too, which I'm sure Tkyss will approve :D There were quite a few questionable draft picks, including Schaub at #10. I'll post a pic of the first 6 rounds just for kicks.

Check out my draft below, and disregard the last two picks, those were forced by league rules as you must draft at least 2 of each position. The league is a typical flex setup. I already have my waivers put in to get Reggie Bush, LT, CJ Spiller and/or Roy Helu instead of the Rams D and Tynes. What do you guys think for RB waiver pickups? I figure I should look for another RB as I'm not certain about Daniel Thomas, but I figure Reggie Bush would be the best grab in case he takes the lionshare of carries for the Dolphins.

Other guys out there on the wire: Julio Jones, Roy Williams, Rashad Jennings, AJ Green, Hines Ward, James Starks, Darren Sproles, Crabtree, Helu, Lee Evans, Mike Williams (Sea), Davone Bess, Thomas Jones, Ronnie Brown, Ben Tate, Jason Snelling, Delone Carter, Ricky Williams.

My team - Miracles!
Round (overall)
1. (11) Ray Rice (Bal - RB)
2. (14) Roddy White (Atl - WR)
3. (35) Michael Turner (Atl - RB)
4. (38) Vincent Jackson (SD - WR)
5. (59) Marques Colston (NO - WR)
6. (62) Matt Ryan (Atl - QB)
7. (83) Daniel Thomas (Mia - RB)
8. (86) Sam Bradford (StL - QB)
9. (107) Greg Olsen (Car - TE)
10. (110) Fred Jackson (Buf - RB)
11. (131) Zach Miller (Sea - TE)
12. (134) San Diego (SD - DEF)
13. (155) Nick Folk (NYJ - K)
14. (158) St. Louis (StL - DEF)
15. (179) Lawrence Tynes (NYG - K)

First 6 rounds, feel free to point and laugh :splits:

Some pretty ridiculous picks in your draft. You getting Rice & White with your first two picks was huge. Like you said, Turner was a nice consolation prize with him there in the third.

Not real thrilled with your QBs. Do you guys use 4 point per TD or 6? If 6 then I think your QB situation could be a little worrisome. I'm also not a big Colston fan for this year (with his knee the way it is) so who are you going to use in the flex? Your top 2 WRs and RBs are very good but curious what your plans are for the flex. Also, not sure what to think of Miller at TE. What did Seattle end up doing with Carlson? But Olsen could be a very good pick since he will probably get a lot of work in Carolina.

major face palm for General Lee....his 1st 3 picks are atrocious. Clearly this dude didn't know what he was doing. you sir will be the door mat of the league. I love matt schaub and all but no way in hell he deserves to be a 1st rounder much less taken before the likes of Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers, larry fitzgerald, ray rice... calvin johnson, MJD.. etc. :vincepalm:

Even had he auto drafted he could've gotten a better team. Hope this wasn't a money league.

4 points per passing TD, but 1 point per 20 yards. Also, -1 points per sack for the QB. QBs don't win this league, I won last year swapping out McNabb, Freeman and Sam Bradford week to week.

I'm not huge on Colston either, and looking back I should have taken Finley there. For the flex I'll use Colston, Thomas or some other RB I get on the wire. Maybe Reggie Bush if I get him, since I have second waiver priority, but I think Daniel Thomas may turn out to be worth it. TE I'm not too concerned with, as it's not a very good position to invest in heavily. I figure between Miller and Olsen, one of them is bound to be useful. DST I usually play off the wire each week, so I don't really care, but the Chargers is good enough given their weak schedule.

Yeah, no kidding. Schaub before Rivers, Brees, Manning, & Ray Rice?!?!? What?!?!? Also, Peyton Hillis seems to have gone WAY too early. #3 pick of round 2? For a guy that did NOTHING during the fantasy playoffs?

Brooklyn Bombers will be hard to handle. He's got a good team. I think you should snag Ben Tate and stash him on the bench if Arian goes down you have a #1 RB. Lee Evans and Ronnie Brown are tempting too.

That's sick. Can't believe you got Turner in the 3rd, I have him as a top 6 back this year and have consistently seen him go in the 5-15 range.

Love that you got the trio of Matty Ice, Turner, and Roddy. Just did my draft Saturday and went in with the strategy of getting as many Atlanta players as I could and came away with 0.

Not a big fan of Colston with the knee issues but that's a very high upside
WR3.

I've heard bad things about Daniel Thomas, I would definitely try to grab Bush. If he stays healthy he could be a ppr stud.

Awesome draft!

Homerism at it's finest. Fine with me as I benefit from it. This is a $50 per team league and $2 per transaction. Last year the pot was ~950.

Yeah bombers is a friend of mine who has been doing FF for 10+ years. He knows his stuff, but did poorly last year - he started 1-6 and finished last.

I like what Tate has done this year, but I don't see him being worth a bench spot until Foster has issues. I may pick up Evans as an alternate though.

Bush is my top waiver priority, but what's wrong with Thomas? I thought he was a good sleeper pick. Plus Bush never plays a full season anyways.

I haven't seen him play much and I know he had a pretty good second preseason game so take it with a grain of salt.

I'm a member of a FF forum and read some bad things from some of the Miami fans. Said he looked like he "had cement blocks on his feet" "doesn't run with good pad level" and that they basically weren't impressed, but I should reiterate that this was all before his game on Saturday.

True, Bush can't ever stay healthy and that's why I threw that qualifier in my original post but I still think that when healthy he can be a quality FF back. I just like the value of being able to pick up a starting RB as late as he's going. If he gives you a good half of a season he's lived up to his draft position.

Yeah, I messed up and should have taken Bush instead of Thomas. I'll try to get Bush on the wire as I am 2nd in line to pick. I'm sure he will get a lot of short passes in Miami just like he did in NO. Thomas had a good game against the Panthers with a goalline TD, but that is the Panthers... Maybe he will pan out, maybe not, but for a late pick I don't mind some risk. Last year at the end of the season, I only had 6 players on my roster that I drafted. Seemed to work out fine, but I was making transactions every week. Missed out on some good ones like Hillis and Lloyd though.

What round would you recommend taking Bush in?

Man, I am stoked about fantasy football season. I really want to play in a league with you guys next year. So excited to have this conversation topic again and would love to play with you, your wife, and Dutch. Maybe put a little money on it as well.

I could make a TTalk league if there was enough interest. I run a 12 team league that's only $25 a person, and it seems to be going well. We have our draft tomorrow night 7pm, at BW3's on Washington. Speaking of which, one owner will likely be missing the draft and is sending me his sheets for autodraft (though we do it live). If you or anyone else is interested in drafting for him and using his preferred list as guidance, I would be happy to have a stand-in for him. You could get some practice drafting and have some fun, drink some beer and get some wings. I don't like the idea of me making his selections as it would be a potential advantage, so I would prefer someone that's not in the league to draft.

I guarantee you I'd be there if I wasn't stuck at home with walking pneumonia. Got diagnosed today. Doctor doesn't want me doing jack ****. If any of it can be done online, I'd be happy to participate but no wings and beer for me for the next week.

But man, I'd love to play in your league. All of us in my league have all been playing together for like 8 years now. Only thing is now most of them are married, have kids, and simply aren't as devoted to fantasy. We used to all get together for the draft, do auction drafts, etc but now no one has the time. I am among the married with children bunch, but I still have more than enough time in my life for fantasy football. So all that is to say I'd love to find another group of guys devoted to fantasy as much, or close to as much as I am. So keep me in mind for future years. And like I said if I can participate online or anything, I'd be happy to draft for your friend.

107.3 is his average draft position on Yahoo. I took him 104 in a 10 team live draft but that was before his performance Saturday night.

I don't want it to sound like I'm in love with the guy though. No way I touch him before the 10th round and I may have even reached in the 11th. He does have a pretty high ceiling though.

Yeah, maybe next year I can get you and some other Fantasy nerds from around here in the league. I just got our 12th member to sign up yesterday, so that was close to the wire.

Anyone else interested in doing a live draft tonight? I have one guy that won't make it, and I just need someone to stand in for him. I'll buy you a beer and promise not to make you sticker ***** for the night!
