I had a chance to watch Urban, he was an interesting player. He doesn't exactly stand out but he's solid.

When you have what round you would draft the player, are you saying that's where you would have the Texans draft him? 2-1 for DaQuan Jones seems high.

Yes to the first question and IMO Jones is right there with Nix Talent wise. I'm sure most don't see it that way but I don't see much difference between the 2 on film.

The one thing that stands out about this list to me is the amount of later round guys that would be good fits on ROC's DL.

Urban is one of those I'm speaking of. He's a perfect fit at DE. Strong against the run, excells at batting down passes and because he isn't much in the way of pass rush should be available late on day three.

I just watched Jones versus Michigan, then Ohio State. He seemed to get great penetration against Michigan. A lot of intial area quickness and he provided a nice inside push on the pass rush (though he couldn't finish). Against Ohio State, he seemed to get manhandled a lot. Looks more like a 5 technique, to me. Nix seems more of a straight-up 2 gap NT. But, I'm not sure if that's worth 2-1, now that I think about it. Not a great draft to be looking for a NT, really.

Crennel's defense at K.C. wasn't as effective as designed because offenses learned they didn't have to double team the DE's. The talent he had wasn't able to defeat one-on-one blocking and pressure the QB. If Urban doesn't have "much in the way of a pass rush", then he really isn't ideal for our new defense.

On the one hand, I agree this is not a great year for NT's. But I like Carrethers in the 5th for several reasons. He's naturally large at 337 lbs, but at that weight maintains low body fat. He's strong - 32 reps. And he is a former wrestler and understand leverage. He does have some limitations, as do all the lower round prospects, but is stout against the run and if left one-on-one, can generate push up the middle. Last season he had 5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks to go along with 34 solo tackles and 59 assisted tackles.

Dissagree, the ability to tie up blockers is the main skill set needed for this scheme. I agree that a DE with pass rush ability would be a great thing to have. However there is a heavy price to pay for that kind of player. You aren't going to find that type of player late in the draft. With the lack of depth on the DL and all the other holes we are going to have to fill in some blanks with players that can at least be good at the basics.

Urban is that type player. He doesn't get pushed around, gets a good push, is solid against the run and his Size/height and ability to batt balls ala Watt makes him a very nice Bookend to Watt. You can't have allstars at every position.

I'm one of those who like Quarles more than most. Reasons are his versitility. His body is equiped to hold 25-30lbs easy. He's field strong,has good quickness to. He can play nt and 2 gap,play 3 tech in 4-3, or 5 technique. He gives RAC flexibility to morph the front. He's prolbably a 3rd-4th rd guy. He also has a good motor and good pursuit. Led that team in tfls and sacks.

Excellent list, props to you because that really took some work. I really like DeAndre Coleman-DT/DE in the 5th or 6th round for the Texans. He doesn't get alot of pass rush but I don't think the new 2 gap 3-4 system is designed for DE's to get penetration. I think he has text book size and length for the position as well as decent/good athleticism for such a big man. I think he plays the run well and takes up blockers like DE's in a 2 gap system are supposed to do, thus freeing up the OLB's to make plays. I also like DaQuan Jones in the 3rd, and Justin Ellis in the 5th or 6th. Another guy that we can probably get as an UDFA is Bruce Gaston-NT. He's got great size for the position and I think he'd work well as a rotational NT or short yardage line stuffer.
